The Rangers connection was always going to be hard to fight off. QPR now probably looking at it… if this is going to keep happening, the sooner he goes the better for QPR

Good question QPR were flying a few weeks ago, but their recent form has been dreadful.Top Claret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 4:49 pmApart from being Gerards No2 . What as he actually achieved in management as he is hardly ripping trees up at QPR ?
I guess Rangers hope he'll be able to revitalise their ailing season, and he does know the club well.
Fairly risky appointment though as far as I can see.

Re: QPR
Thought after he openly said the Wolves job did not interest him , that he had declared his loyalty to QPR. Said he wanted to show his commitment to QPR as an example to the team-since then their results have been poor

Re: QPR
Could be interesting on Dec 11th. I wonder if a well known football manager currently on gardening leave might be interested in the job with his first match against his former club!
Whatever does happen beware the caretaker manager syndrome
An interesting question...Could a former manager currently on gardening leave at a club be refused permission to talk to another club if still being paid by said club? Askng hypothetically of course.

Re: QPR
The cynical view might be that Beale was happy to stay at QPR whilst they were doing well and there was a chance they’d get promoted. Once that chance began to evaporate…

Really don’t see Dyche taking a Championship job, but particularly not QPR. At his age and with his experience, he’ll rightly think he has earned another shot at the Prem and has said as much.Petersa wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 5:47 amCould be interesting on Dec 11th. He’ll also know that December/January is where those opportunities arise when chairman panic. He’d even be better waiting until later in the season when the “last chance saloon” changes happen, because he’d have more chance of bouncing straight back with a club like Wolves or Everton than he would have going up with QPR.
Assuming we’re still paying him, that makes it even less likely. I think his base salary with us will’ve been 5x higher than Championship managers salary. And I just can’t see him committing to that for 3 years when far more lucrative offers will likely come along.

Strong Owen Coyle vibes
Michael Beale 20 Oct ‘Integrity is a real big thing for me + loyalty. If those are values you live by, you have to be strong. I’ve been all in here + I’ve asked others to be all in here so I can’t be the 1st person to run away from the ship’

Re: QPR
Not sure how many PL opportunities there’s been since he got sacked? Dyche is not one of the elite managers who will get a top six (or maybe even ten) club, so realistically you need to discount the likes of the Chelsea and United appointments from that list. Maybe Villa. Dyche is probably waiting for one of maybe ten jobs to become available?arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 9:07 amThere have been plenty of Prem jobs available and he’s not even been in the running. I think the reason he’s not attracting much attention are the perceptions around his style. Fairly or unfairly, Dycheball isn’t attractive to fans and therefore the chairmen appointing managers. In some respects I lack sympathy because there were definitely times I felt he could’ve brought more technical players in and didn’t.
But my point is more that there comes a time when Chairmen care far less about their fans/style and care only about survival and continuation of the PL big bucks. They’ll be far more pragmatic when staring in to a massive budget black hole. If Dyche knows how to do one thing well, it’s tightening up a defence on a budget.
That time is coming up, Dyche knows that, and I can’t see him taking a Championship role in the period just beforehand.
As for where, I would say the bigger the club the more desperate to stay in the division they become. Everton, Leeds, Villa (pre Emery) I could see appointing him if low enough and really threatened. But more likely you’re Wolves, Southampton types. I imagine when they’re manager shopping they’ll find it hard to find a manager with as many PL games or PPG as Dyche, so he’ll come in to his own when experience is the key criteria.
Re: QPR
The latter two just went for Championship managers (including one with just 17 games as a manager) with zero PL experience over him.
Villa went for a 3 time Europa League winner from one of Spain's top clubs.

Re: QPR
Was talking more hypothetically about the size of club he might be able to achieve and saying I don’t think a Villa, Leeds, etc sized club is out of the question for him were they desperate enough, but a Southampton/Wolves type more likely.
Although I could still see Southampton making another change before the season is out. Villa I can’t make my mind up, think there’s a decent squad in there that he could mould (and he’s definitely a very good manager) and will likely get money in Jan, but if they were sat in the bottom 3 in March I reckon they’re the type that would panic.

Re: QPR
So far this season he’s not been considered suitable for:-
Brighton
Southampton
Bournemouth
Villa
Wolves
Outside of that there have been big jobs at Rangers, Stoke, WBA and Middlesborough.
Other than maybe Forest I can’t see who else would take him.
He doesn’t seem to be in the running.

Re: QPR
On the Prem clubs, wouldn’t shock me to see three of those five have another vacancy before the end of the season. And then they may feel differently then.
On the other clubs, I’d be surprised if he weren’t contacted (especially the Champ ones - PL pedigree and proven at getting clubs promoted). I reckon he probably turned them down.
We’ll see, but my guess is that he’s biding his time and a Prem club will come in for him when we get to the business end. Then it’ll be down to him to prove his abilities.

Re: QPR
I hear what you are saying New Claret. However, personally I feel that if he was going to land a PL job or even a Championship club with great potential, it would have happened by now. THe fact Saints have gone for Jones (no pedigree) and Wolves were initially talking to Mike Beale of QPR says it all for me. As time goes on it will become an increasing case of "why has no one given him a job yet" and that will go against himNewClaret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 10:46 amOn the Prem clubs, wouldn’t shock me to see three of those five have another vacancy before the end of the season. Re: QPR
Eddie Howe took a year out, bided his time and got a great job. Im not suggesting Dyche would get a club like Newcastle but as we've seen on here with injured players in football your stock can often improve by not doing anything. I could definitely see Dyche getting offered a job at a struggling club in Jan/Feb or getting a decent job offer in next summers shake up.
The only issue for Dyche getting a great escape style job is that he took a few years to get Burnley good enough to survive in the Premier League after getting relegated at his first attempt so whether he is capable of working mid season with an inherited set of players in trouble the jury is out. You only have to see the results that Dyche had with the players he didn't choose himself to see he is someone that needs complete control and time which often isnt there in these types of situations

Re: QPR
I think what the above says, is he’s probably missed out on 4 or so PL jobs (Villa fancy themselves as a sleeping giant currently, but as I say, were they scrapping towards the end I think they might feel differently).warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 28, 2022 12:02 pmI hear what you are saying New Claret. I’d be shocked if he fancied Bournemouth, given their size and location - hard to build on their success much more.
I think Jones had links to the Soton Board somehow, so that maybe explains that anomaly. The rest I agree on - bit odd he wasn’t in the running.
Also agree that as roles come and go, it’s not helpful to his cause. I think if he were truthful he’d be a bit worried and prefer to be back in a role. But Howe was out of work for 18 months or so and I’d have never thought he’d join such a big club as Newcastle. Roles do come along when the timing is right and I think they will for Dyche - but more when Chairmen are forced in to pragmatism.

Whatever PL club he gets will likely be facing relegation and that won’t be an easy gig. Maybe better waiting and taking a relegated club with parachute payments so he can shape a team.
He’ll have to chose carefully which is why it wouldn’t surprise me if he had been contacted about a few roles but politely declined.

Re: QPR
Looking at the list of QPRs backroom staff surprised to see it includes 3 ex Clarets - Damian Matthew as Assistant Coach, Micah Hyde in charge of U18s and loanee Gavin Ward as goalkeeping coach. Interesting to see if Beale takes any of them to Rangers if he gets the job.
