So them in manchester a few good years ago and was scheduled to see them again about 5 years ago , but it was cancelled due to ill health.
Excellent songwriter and musician

Very sad day, so many of that generation nearing the end.

Someone once asked me out of the blue “what’s the best album of all time” and I answered instantly ‘Rumours’ by Fleetwood Mac. I had no idea I thought that until I was asked.

I change my mind all the time though…. Sometimes it’s a Springsteen album, sometimes it’s a Stiff Little Fingers album, sometimes Dylan, sometimes Green Day, sometimes Neil Young, but regardless what I love listening to this week, ALWAYS in the top 3 is Rumours. It really is faultless.

A sad day indeed. I followed her career from when she was Christine Perfect, singer for 'Chicken Shack'. First gained prominence with her version of the Etta James classic "I'd rather go blind". Then on to the big time with 'Fleetwood Mac', she was always my favourite band member, not 'in your face' gorgeous like Stevie Nicks, rather quietly doing what she did behind the keyboard and composing a good number of the bands best songs. As some have mentioned, I didn't realize she was 79 years of age, but there again, I'm not too far away either, where does the time go?

RIP sweet lady.

There was a documentary about her on bbc4 recently. Hopefully it will be available again on iplayer as a celebration of one of music's icons

Nothing comes close to Rumours as an album where every song is brilliant and just works in sequence with the others. Christine was the best singer in the band. Wonderful voice. Will be sadly missed. RIP Christine.

How many on here know she was a Lancashire lass. Brought up near Brum but was born in Bouth in the Lake District when it was still Lancashire (or at least that part of it). Christine Perfect struggled to get much recognition other than Chicken Shack but ‘70 saw her make the move that would change her life.
I too was surprised she was 79. I guessed at about 73/4. A sad loss indeed.

Great as she was I would personally disagree about her being the best singer in the band. That accolade in my view would go to lead singer Stevie Nicks.
My only problem with the brilliant Rumours was being on a Morocco road trip in ‘79 when we had a mini bus and about half a dozen ‘tapes’, one of which was Rumours. It got played so much by the time we got home a few weeks later I was sick of it. Returned to it with fresh ears some years later and it sounded as good as ever.

The 2 iterations of Fleetwood Mac were so different they should really have had different names. I get that Christine McVie was a gifted musician but to me nothing could equal the genius of Peter Green.

Green was a genius but his mental issues got the better him. Could have been up there with the best.

That was her actual birth name, she was in Chicken Shack and sang lead vocals on “I’d Rather Go Blind”

As an ancoure a grand piano was pulled on stage and she sang songbird never forget it

Really sad news. A truly beautiful voice and she wrote some of FM’s best tracks. ‘Songbird’ in particular got me through some tough times while my daughter was in hospital.

An old friend of mine took cello lessons from her father, Mr Perfect. I think he played in the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Personally, I always preferred her in Chicken Shack and especially 'When the Train Comes Back' which she wrote. There is also a track in which she guests with Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green on guitar. It's called 'Love That Burns'.
