O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Rumour has it due to funding issues ie delays, more issues then allowed for found in contingency fund the roundabout/lights may have a drastic change. The Town to Turf scheme has been a bit of a disaster.

Absolute chaos again this morning. I despair at working in Burnley town centre at the moment. Temp lights at the mitre again causing huge queues in both directions, and the Manchester road roundabout is down to 1 lane for roadworks too.

I have contacted David Attenborough because last week I saw a workman at the Parliament St/Tod Rd roadworks Apparently this is one of the rarest species on the planet. Unfortunately it left before I could take a photo and as yet has failed to return. I'm currently awaiting the BBC film crew to try and capture this rare and exotic creature for posterity

It was in lesser spotted orange plumage and in classic pose of roosting draped over roadworks sign.

FAO those who don't travel to Burnley regularly these two pesky roadworks have gone:
3 way temporary traffic lights at junction of Parliament Street and Tod Road
2 way temporary traffic lights on Colne Road near the Oaks Hotel

Just a heads up. There are 3 way temporary traffic lights just of junction 9, the Bentley wood/ crematorium junction, which have been causing havoc this last week. Just something to keep your eye on. No Idea how long they are going to be there.

Yes, avoiding that route now. Got caught up in it going East yesterday then saw the traffic backed up to the motorway bridge returning to Burnley.
Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Probably worth some emphasis that the Bentley Wood roundabout roadworks (M65 J9) are a significant bottleneck at busy times.
Saturday's matchday peak times will be horrendous, I'd avoid that junction at all costs.

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
I'm sure there must be some on here who work at the two industrial estates next to the Bentley wood roundabout. How much hassle are they causing? Does anyone have anymore info as to when they are going to at least be moved away and be only two way lights? I'm avoiding them by getting on and off at Gannow top. Trouble is, a lot of people are having the same idea! Will be interesting tomorrow.
Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Come off at Padiham/Altham junction then go straight on at the lights to the bypass then come down to Barden lane that way can then either go via the hospital or through towards towncasualclaret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 10:48 amI'm sure there must be some on here who work at the two industrial estates next to the Bentley wood roundabout. Good luck going that fast near the Oaks with all the sunken tarmac around the manhole covers. Some massive potholes there.

Mate of mine works up that way on the Magnesium Way estate. Last time they had roadworks there he told me it was an absolute nightmare getting on and off - no reason to believe it's any difference now.casualclaret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 10:48 amI'm sure there must be some on here who work at the two industrial estates next to the Bentley wood roundabout. Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
I got caught up in these on Tuesday evening going westbound. On approach to the roundabout in the dark you can be forgiven for wanting to go left around the roundabout, only to find the only access that way is the industrial estate. Me and about 10 other cars did the exact same thing, which caused Chaos trying to turn around as there was a queue already of cars wanting to get off the industrial estate. Absolute nightmare as is travelling anywhere in Burnley at the minute.

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
From the Lancashiretelegraph link above:
“ Improved connectivity, with inclusive enhanced routes for walking, wheeling and cycling from Manchester Road station through to Burnley town centre and bus station, considering wider links to the wider town masterplan.”
That’s b..sh.t glossing at its best. What do ‘inclusive enhanced” and “wider links to wider town masterplan” actual mean?

Came over for the game today and Burnley is the most shocking place for roadworks and the state of the roads. Took me nearly 40 minutes to get from the Turf to the M65 at Gannow Top which is way longer than it would normally take for a Burnley home game with 20000 people on!! Are we twinned with Royston Vasey??

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Those have been a complete nightmare all week. It has got to the point where there are no viable alternative routes to take. Last night the lights were stuck on red, and the lights on Dryden street were out. Utter joke. There’s lights now outside kitchens garage also.

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Well done. The council has truly screwed up the traffic flow coming in and out of our town, and not just with the roadworks, either.
Doing away with the fit-for-purpose Keirby roundabout and changing it into a 4 way traffic light controlled junction. Then you drive up Centenary Way to the roundabout, however, just a few yards beyond the roundabout we are going to be met with yet another controlled 4 way junction.
If you think it's bad enough now, well just wait, and waiting is what we'll all be doing regarding Church St/Yorkshire St, Manchester roundabout and beyond at the new junction. Peak hours are going to be even more mental.

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Ludicrous. When it comes to planning major building developments i.e. warehouses, housing estate, sole house builds, etc there is always a lengthy public consultation. But when the council decided on major changes to road systems, which has a greater impact on, and affects a greater proportion of the public, there is no consultation.
I have always felt town planners have an ulterior motive to subjugate motorists by deliberately causing as much chaos as possible for motorists in the belief they will either push them to using public transport or, not bother visiting towns.

10.00am on a Tuesday morning - gridlocked on Ormerod Road, Church Street and the rest. When a mid-morning Tuesday is like this, you've got problems. It's going to be like this for months, and all something that didn't need changing.
Oh, and once it's completed, the traffic flow will be far, far worse than it was when the roundabout was there. Funny how we hardly hear a peep from those who championed this bonkersness - the local MP and the council!

How does everyone know that traffic flow will be worse with the new junction? Crystal ball or time machine?
I hate the roadworks as much as anyone else, but making such unfounded statements makes us sound like we're whinging for the sake of it.

Complete **** show again this morning and it’s set to continue. I live in Hapton, and if I want to get to Burnley I have no way of avoiding the works.
It’s that bad, I’m not having to apply for flexible working hours to compensate for being late for work. If I could set off earlier I would do but that isn’t an option for me.
******* joke.

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Just to play devil's advocate here. The town is a dump, there's a reason it has the cheapest housing in Britain. You could argue that it needs this level of renovation to try and attract people.
Also if it means there are much better and safer bike lanes around the town then I'm all for it. We need to reduce the reliance on cars and its hard to do that without huge disruption unfortunately.

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
The constant popping up and poor planning of roadworks is getting beyond the joke but anyone complaining about the state of our roads needs to head over to Preston. I was there at the weekend and there are some seriously horrendous potholes on the main road around the centre as you come in down the A6. Whole chunks of road missing. Actually amazed its been allowed to get that bad on such important and major roads.
Never seen potholes as bad as those.
