Even though there are about 10 signs saying no right turn on the way down to the junction you still get about 1 in every 10 cars still making or attempting to turn right!Loyalclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 6:30 pmThe arteries into town are knackered at the moment. Coming from Padiham/Bobbin area into town is a right pain, obviously those in Pike Hill/Worsthorne have had to deal with Harry Potts Way/Culvert for ages too.
Anyone else think the left turn only from Omerod Road into Church street should be made permanent!?!

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Temp lights are set up mainly to protect the workforce and the pedestrians who may be affected by the works possibly disrupting footpaths. If no safety system is in place then the public would have to walk out and around the works into the line of traffic.
Other reasons are utilities being in the roads and/or potholes and resurfacing jobs.
Yes they are annoying, but they are there to keep people safe at the end of the day.

Of course, but it's the times (and there's lots) when there is nothing happening for days that need sorting. All signing for LCC works appears to be sub contracted to Ventbrook. Once up they never move. The Keirby works being best example.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 7:08 pmTemp lights are set up mainly to protect the workforce and the pedestrians who may be affected by the works possibly disrupting footpaths. Great joy (?!). The temporary traffic lights at the Summit are back to four way again - huge queues in all directions at 0800 this morning.

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Are they really 4 way? Be warned, the other day the 4 way signs were up, but the lights weren't. Some if your turning right watch out for traffic coming at you.
These roadworks are not LCC, but they seem to be using the LCC approach to signs and lights, i.e. they aren't being moved when not needed. So expect a weekend of no work and unnecessary disruption.

The ones at Nissan garage make traffic back up all the way to Princes Way / ASDA in one direction and Tim Bobbin area in the other, knackering both of the Burnley motorway junctions in the process. Quality planning.

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Having had a few days of grace where they removed the lights, they reared their ugly head again yesterday afternoon, causing chaos this morning with traffic backed up right down by dugdale road for traffic coming from Padiham to Burnley this morning.
Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Burnley just feels as though it is being dug up at the moment, the junction at Manchester/Rossendale Road the Mitre, Town to Turf works etc etc etc and as mentioned sod all progress.

Ormerod Road/Church St. gridlocked this morning.
Took me 20 minutes to get from the top of Ormerod Road to the bottom at about 11 am (queues not helped by the numpties still trying to turn right at the bottom junction despite the cones and the big 'no right turn' sign

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
It's not just Burnley. I decided on a nice trip to Lytham earlier today to watch the Red Arrows fly from Blackpool airport to over Southport as part of the air show. After negotiating the nightmare across Burnley I motored down the M65. Approaching the M6 junction the warning lights flashed M6 delays of 1 hrs north bound so decided to go old route. Roadworks at Walton junction took 20 minutes and then Lostock road roadworks allowed me to travel 1/2 mile in just under a hour.
Gave up and turned around before schools turned out. Thank you all you incompetent Civil Servants, Local Government Officers for screwing up our road system.

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Apparently, the Burnley Express have reported that Yorkshire Street is now open to traffic. Given that I walked down to the Turf yesterday for the U21 game when it remained closed, I'm astonished that they've been able to open it.
The roundabout has now been replaced with a big white circle but I believe the traffic light system will be the final piece of work to be done.

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
I hope they get the traffic light system up and running ASAP. The 'roundabout' may have reopened, but the traffic is still backing up because the height of the barriers make it difficult to see oncoming traffic - may as well have double white lines at the junctions because most cars have to stop to see if it's clear. This holds up the onflow.
To be honest, apart from how long it's taken, I've no issue with the new pavements on Yorkshire Street and Harry Potts Way, however, I do with this roundabout malarkey, and I think it is a waste of public money. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The roads like trains, public services etc really do sum up the current state of this country.

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
Depends how you describe fully open, you can drive both direction from the roundabout to the ticket office. However there are four way lights, which start before Turkish if coming from the ticket office, and around about the 110 club in the other side. Then lights Belvedere/Tod Road.
Once you get near the Culvert it's a tight squeeze with no pedestrian way on the right hand side under the bridge towards TK Maxx. This means person people are walking in the road, as it doesn't look like traffic can come from the roundabout towards Turf.
Its a bit of a mess as a pedestrian, tight as a driver and poor vision entering the roundabout.
I guess it's open...

To get from one side of Burnley to the other I've started to go upto Fence, down the Padiham bypass into Padiham and then upto Tim Bobbin, it's quicker at 5pm

Re: O\T roadworks/ temporary traffic lights
That’s one option, but I think a better option might be to have a mini roundabout at that junction and a speed camera just further up Church Street to slow the boy racers coming down from Prestige down so that a mini roundabout works, due to those coming out of Omerod Road having a slightly restricted view until becoming about second vehicle from the front.Loyalclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 6:30 pmAnyone else think the left turn only from Omerod Road into Church street should be made permanent!?!
Without a right turn there traffic under the culvert, especially with traffic lights, will get snarled up.

Anyone know if the 4-way traffic lights at the Rossendale Road / Manchester Road crossroads are still there (it was a nightmare at the last home game particularly as football traffic was being directed off at junction 9 of the M65 to supposedly avoid roadworks!)?
