I wouldn't say he's faded. 4 league games, 1 goal. He's hardly played for them.

Agree.helmclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 7:58 amI hope Westwood stays until the end of the season.
Experienced head and good cover in midfield should we get an injury.
Also I hope we don't let any go in Jan'.
It's a squad where standards are built on. It would be daft to weaken this.
Maybe Summer unless a player really wants to go now.
For what it's worth... Wout Weg' really could play in our team... He'd have 10+ this season by now.

That was really my point… very little game time & only one goal. Not the type of stats he was showing last season for sure (unless he’s had an injury I’m not aware of).

Bournemouth are after Brownhill according to Nixon, it would have to be silly money to even think about selling him.

As things are he may only get 5mths of premier league football then be back in championship
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Yeah can’t see that one happening. He’s loving it here, wants to win the Champ title and Bourne unlikely to offer enough to tempt us.

In relative terms, our position is now a lot stronger than it was at the start of the season given it looks increasingly likely that we will be promoted. Makes retaining players and attracting new ones a lot easier.claretandy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 9:29 amBournemouth are after Brownhill according to Nixon, it would have to be silly money to even think about selling him.

Its not an appealing move for him-he could be joining a few other recent ex players in the Championship if he moves. If they offer over £20m and he wants to go I would take it, and we can start the rebuild for the PL. However JB seems to love playing for us, so it seems unlikely

Are we really sure that a fee has already been agreed?Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 3:49 pmUnfortunately the fee has already been agreed for Wout so his World Cup performance won’t change that fee.
Any increase in his value on the back of the World Cup might mean Beskitas are more willing to buy him and possibly sell him on themselves shortly after.
The Besiktas Chairman/owner spent the autumn telling the press how good he was as at knocking down the value of players they initially brought in on loan and how he was confident of doing the same with Weghorst when the time came.

I’ve not seen anything about a fee being agreed for Weghorst and I’m not sure why we’d do that unless it was significant.

Would be surprised if the likes of Lowton and Long go this Jan (even Westwood and Barnes)
They will be on far more money at Burnley for the next six months and will then become free agents where they can negotiate additional signing on fees as well as wages
We've already seen that at our club with Hendrick, Tarks and Mee and it seems to be a popular trend for quite a few players at the moment

Can’t help but think he’s screwed himself & Swansea.
He’s certainly not going to attract anything like the fee we were offering in August, but has also probably brought his own character into question which might limit interest in him.

Suppose we don’t know how he’s been treated. I heard on deadline day that his deal was very close. Who knows if they scuppered it last minute looking for more money we never paid. I heard we’d offered very good money so maybe from his perspective Swansea had been offered a good sum and huge profit on a free transfer.
Agree with you though, not sure we’ll be offering the same money now and it could end badly for him.

He has enough sense to see we are probably swapping leagues next season. Suppose it depends on your perspective - we got great service from a great player but he also went on a free (although imagine that was partly Dyche’s influence too).Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 2:51 pmWon’t be the first and won’t be the last to down tools to force through a move. Re: January transfer window rumours.
Dangerous to judge off one game, but I thought he looked meh on the Turf.
I'd ask people would you rather pay 15m for Obafemi, or 20m for Tella. I know which I'd prefer, and at that money Saints might deal.

Scored 5 goals in 39 appearances for Southampton over 5 years
12 goals for Swansea last season but just 3 this from 19 apps
Just don't see anything positive about this guy even at Championship level never mind Prem

Re: January transfer window rumours.
In terms of fee I think the consensus at the time was £6-9m, with a lot of that performance-based. That seems pretty reasonable to me, and expect Tella will be much more expensive.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 3:16 pmDangerous to judge off one game, but I thought he looked meh on the Turf.

I’d be amazed if we went anywhere near 10 mill for Tella never mind 20 mill. As for Obafemi doubt we will go back with what we were supposed to be offering in summer.
Just my opinion
Re: January transfer window rumours.
I think it was at the higher end of those two figures which seems a lot of money for him. Re: January transfer window rumours.
Athletic reported last week that Swans were looking for something around £10m. Our offer was 5/6 rising to 9.
Obafemi was excellent for Swans last season and our Irish contingent on here have always said he’d be a good signing. Obviously this season something has gone on behind the scenes there. When I saw him against Cardiff for them, he scored and was a constant threat in behind.

That’s much more aligned to what I thought. A huge amount depends on how it’s structured. If it’s apps/performances/promotion-based and only £5m or so guaranteed, that sounds okay for a 22yo.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 01, 2023 4:18 pmAthletic reported last week that Swans were looking for something around £10m. Like others, I’m unsure (more on finishing than anything else), but to have a fast striker that can get in behind would be brilliant in this team.
I don’t think we’ll be offering as much depending on promotion now though!
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Yes, he hasn't done much playing for Ireland so a moot point really. He'd have perhaps been a reasonable signing in the summer but we now need to be preparing for the Premier League next season because there's obviously a good chance we'll be promoted.
