There are posters on this and the previous message board that are looked upon as the voice of reason. Post sensible comments, never descend into the depths that some posters drag this board to and often diffuse situations with comedy moments. Passionate Clarets, knowledgeable and seem genuinely nice people. Eli was one such poster, Spades another. We lost Eli 16 years ago and now sadly Spades has gone to join him. This board is a lesser place with her passing. It's been a pleasure to know you via this board. RIP Spades, you will be missed by many. My condolences to her family.

RIP Spadesclaret - a genuine, kind lady who had time for everyone she spoke to and always remembered every detail when we spoke.

I used to enjoy our interactions on the original board.

My sincerest condolences to the family.

So sad to hear of this earlier today.

I had the honour of being invited by spades to her home for lunch with herself and Dave prior to a couple of games against Norwich a few years ago and the lady that she portrayed on here was an exact likeness in real life.

An exceptional person in more ways than one and someone who became very close to my family's hearts and will be sadly missed.

One final word for Rob. the “jam cakes” (iykyk) I do and she will have been chuckling at that until the end.

RIP and God bless xx

This is really sad news to read.

From posting on the old messageboard, to Facebook friends to here - Spades was always so witty, interesting, respectful and supportive.

She reminded me of my own Nanna who although isn't a poster on here, follows all the Burnley scores and rumours on her tablet.

I first started using the old messageboard as a dopey kid and now I'm in my thirties and Spades has been there throughout it all. So I'd like to echo what daveisaclaret said earlier in the thread.

Rest in peace, Bobby. And much love to all her family and friends.

I remember Spades first of all when we were on Clarets Mad (I posted then as DiBranchio).
She was one of those people who, though you'd never met you tried in your minds eye to put a face to the name.
She came across has a kind and considerate lady with a fantastic knowledge of the English language, and though I consider myself to have a reasonable grasp, I was always happy to stand corrected by her.
I think most us of can say we're that little bit better for having known this lovely lady.
RIP Bobby, it was a pleasure to have 'known' you.

I logged in just to like and acknowledge this. I joined the old forum in October 2002 and was a much more prolific poster myself for the first few years, and I remember your mum. She was a great poster, always involved, and sounds like she was an incredible lady in real life. I’m sorry to hear she passed. I will raise a glass very shortly for her.

Up the Clarets.

I am so sorry to read this and you have my heartfelt condolences for your loss.

Bobby and I had a special bond as I had lived in Donington for 22 years after leaving the Army and before retiring and moving to Padiham in 2016. She told me all about her years as a Teacher and I kept her abreast of the food on offer in the Black Bull.

Rest in heavenly peace Bobby.

Such sad news to wake up to and so sorry for your family’s loss. I don’t post or even read much on here any more, but every time I come on I have a look for her posts, they were always worth reading.

Such a genuinely warm and funny poster with never a cross word for anyone. I don’t know what I’m going to do for book recommendations now as half of what I’ve read over the last 15 years or so have come from authors first recommended by your mum.

R.I.P. Spades, an absolute pleasure to have known you.

Very sad news. Like so many others, I knew Spades only from CM and this board.
As others have said, Spades brought humour and abundant good sense to the board. I always liked her use of the English language - I remember one thread dealing with the use of the apostrophe at the start of a word (‘phone was the example Spades quoted).
I am very sorry for your loss.

Dad (Mr Spades) has asked me to pass on his heartfelt thanks for sharing your wonderful memories and tributes to Mum.
Your messages - whilst bringing tears to our eyes - are also a great comfort.
Dad was born in Nelson in 1939 - and, like me, is a Claret through and through. He even proposed to Mum at the Turf, back in '63!

Thank you all

What a shock this is, she was a thoroughly decent human being who rightly was treated with reverence on here and the old place.

I always enjoyed how 1959-60 used to post his festive joke especially for spades, he never made it across here so I took his place one Christmas a few years ago and hopefully I made her smile.

RIP Lady Spades
