The Football Gods smiled on us
An obvious penalty wasn’t given and a goal was scored from a free kick that wasn’t even a foul - usually these kind of things go in our opposition’s favour. Today the luck was with us. It seems about time.

Don’t think we needed any luck to win that game today.

Anyone at the match saw that we were totally dominant!

Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
No doubt that the the 2 big moments went in our favour, but I firmly believe we’d still have won comfortably. Keep playing like that, and we’ll be up by Easter.
Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
And when we in the Prem ,how many of the top sides came ,& got the luck of the gods,we’re a big team in a small pond so it’s our turn ,& as they say “The harder a practice the luckier I get”
Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
Anyone there today saw a totally dominant performance whatever the tv may have inferred.
Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
The tv also showed we were dominant despite the two key errors.

They should’ve been given a stonewall penalty, but they also should’ve been given a stonewall red. The referees are consistently crap in this league (and this country), and every team suffers from it in almost every game.

Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
Saw the possession stats given as 43% QPR 57% Burnley.
Seemed like way more than that at the time

Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
I thought 'penalty' but after looking at it again I see the QPR player pushes the ball forward, and over the line, then leaves both legs there when he could easily have got over Muric's arms. Of course these days that would usually be given but it's not a penalty in my eyes.
Anyway, the best view was that of the assistant referee and he chose to do nothing. I didn't even notice him give a goal kick, leaving it to the ref.
I agree about the Cork free kick not being one though. However I wouldn't be happy with the wall QPR had ample time to prepare. Excellently taken as it was, how can a left sided player hit an out swing shot into the right of the goal?

There are 15 clubs below QPR and 21 below Rovers. That is scary

QPR should've been down to 10 men in the second half so we didn't get all the decisions.

If the ball is out of play before the contact then it’s a goal kick. The offence has occurred with the ball out of play. I think that may have been the case.

Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
We scored three goals away from home and kept a clean sheet, taking three points in a game we completely dominated. We didn’t need to get out of second gear in the second half; this exciting, young team is very special in this division, let’s just keep it going.
Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
I only saw one replay from the appropriate angle but I thought he may have been offside for the penalty had it been VARed

Lol, this board would be in meltdown if we hadn't got a penalty like that and conceded from a none free kick. Accept the luck and remember this when a few go against us.

It should have been a penalty no argument, except on here obviously

Yes, we were totally dominant, but that was as clear a penalty to QPR in the first 30 seconds as you'll ever see. It was right in front of us and Muric got it hopelessly wrong, especially as he really didn't need to make the challenge. We got away with it and took full advantage against what turned out to be an extremely poor Rangers side.

I think he might be referring to the challenge on Gudmundsson, which wasn't quite a red card offence in my view.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 6:29 pmI'm guessing for the kick on THB when the ball was out for a throw in to QPR and the guy simply lost his rag and booted him to the ground because Bellis kicked it a bit further into the crowd to stop them taking it quickly.

Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
Yes, you could well be correct. I've only seen it the once live at the match, but I suspected VAR might have had a long look at it and somebody could easily have been taking the early bath as it looked a bad 'un. (Not that I'm missing VAR in any way whatsoever BTW!)

Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
It went against us in arguably our most important game against the 2nd best team in the league. Scoring from a corner that should have been a goal kick. Swings and roundabouts but the best team usually wins the league, particularly one that loses twice in half a championship season.

But that’s why I love the championship……………yes, refs can be sh’te but the match goes on, supporters moan (or cheer) but today we got the rub of the green as they might say……….rather than the inevitable VAR which still can’t get it right………

Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
I'll need to look at it again but if, as Hibs states, the ball is dead before the challenge then I feel less fortunate for the non penalty award. At the time I thought bang on pen.
The non-free kick was weird in the fact Cork waved his hands saying "no foul" but the ref had already blown. Honest from Cork but, maybe, just saving getting a booking for a dive.
The challenge on Johan was a red all day long. No where near the ball, studs up and landed right on his ankle. Could have seriously injured him and the ref bottled that one.
All in all though we were far, far better than QPR and lovely to see Dunne still having Claret in him with his assist for Tella's goal

Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
Muric had a bit of a mental moment. Not sure why he came out. Defenders were about. It was one when the striker earnt a decision because he was not getting to the ball. Would usually expect to see it given.
Thought Cork got bumped prior to the other defender coming in and was off balance hence going down. There was not much in it.
Challenge on JBG was filth. EPL given by VAR as a red all day long. The big unit having a go at Bellis would potentially have been a red in the EPL as well.
I actually thought the ref was OK.

When you have momentum and as dominant as we are in games you tend to get some luck.

Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
The second goal was an expression of that dominance. From the moment that time added on was announced we kept the ball, patiently knocked it about and then bang! QPR barely touched it after the 45 mins was up.
Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
I must admit my thought was that might be a red card. THB had thrown the ball away which seems to be allowed these days - it shouldn't be. I thought the ref dealt with this incident sensibly.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 6:29 pmI'm guessing for the kick on THB when the ball was out for a throw in to QPR and the guy simply lost his rag and booted him to the ground because Bellis kicked it a bit further into the crowd to stop them taking it quickly.
Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
When you see the replays of the penalty incident from the different angles it makes you wonder how on earth the ref didn't give a penalty as Muric clearly caught the player.
Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
Probably a combination of leaving his leg in and the ball being pretty much out of play gave enough doubt not to give it.

Tbh I’ve seen it again on the Vlog that was in the end of the stand on the side nearest to the away end. Definitely a pen tbh and I did think the same when i saw it live. The ball was in play when Muric connected with the player. Nice to get away with one for a change.

Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
He didn't just leave his leg in, he actually dragged it from Shepherds Bush to ensure that he made contact with Muric. The AR who was closer to the incident than the referee and also looking at it from side on would have seen this deliberate movement and communicated this to the referee. You can also add to this the fact that the ball was no longer in his control and going out of play.
Two officials thought that there was enough doubt to be able to award a penalty and, no matter what all the pundits think and pontificate about, the decision was correct.

Re: The Football Gods smiled on us
VAR makes it a slightly different game to the one we are currently watching and are familiar with.
The pen probs get given and the guy probs gets sent out for being completely off the ground and lacking control
The pen is such a borderline decision. Muric has instigated a duel and got there second. But the player basically stops running and drags his legs into the path of Muric and is blatantly looking a 'gift' of a pen. Maybe that's why it's not given. Not to mention the possibility that the balls possibly gone out and that's another factor....
But the free kick that Cork wins I think is absolutely a free kick, it does t matter to me that contact wasn't made, the defender planted his leg, didn't get the ball and was going to take Cork out if he didn't hurdle/ride the challenge. I think Cork waving away afterwards in more trying to persuade the defender to not be booked by the ref.
I also think refs these days consider if the attacking player still has control of the ball - so in Muric's case, the balls running out of play the strikers going nowhere, whereas Cork was on the run with the ball, and not been able to take avoiding action and the defender has impeded his run.
