Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
A level-headed lad, good interview, has thrived this year under new management and now looks a PL player.
Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
IMO always been a prem. player but only time will tell how much better he will be in the prem. next season compared with 2021-22 if we go up.
Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
Good interview. Key to potential promotion is JB.

Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
Currently the most underrated player at the club. His goals, assists and general link up / high pressing is very impressive. His enthusiasm and encouragement to his teammates ( he seems to always be the first to congratulate the goal scorer) is a delight and it was no coincidence that he was missing for the disastrous SheffU game.
Unfortunately as a result Josh could be a transfer target in January.

Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
What an informative interview. The key things for me were what the coaches and VK are doing with the players in between games, and it shows every game in areas where we needed to improve, and its started to happen in the next few games. The camaraderie under VK seems to be immense, and is a huge selling point when attracting new players should we get promoted. Players talk and it spreads

Never understood the stick he got on here. Always committed and clearly has ability. He said himself that he could be a bit like a headless chicken but he was in a team that was mostly chasing shadows. Very encouraging to hear how much close attention VK has given to improving his game. It has certainly paid off. He has been exceptional this season, complementing the peerless game reading of Cork and the metronomic efficiency of Cullen

Don't you think that several players could be transfer targets in January?IWOODLOVETT wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 10:53 amCurrently the most underrated player at the club. Do you feel that Mr. Pace would sell our better players in January against the wishes of Vincent Kompany?

Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
if someone came along and offered 20 million for Brownhill I would imagine there would be a conversation if VK could attract a better player for half that amount. I'd be truly gutted if we sold Josh though, seems to get the club 100%.

Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
Unfortunately clubs of our size are now run as businesses and every player has his price. The question is whether certain players are crucial (and therefore unsellable) to the end target, which in this case is the Premier League and the riches it brings.
Our squad is now so strong that nearly every position is more than covered and we are already halfway towards the target - so a loss of a player or two can be coped with. The manager also always has to factor in the loss of any of his key players - whether to a transfer or to a long term injury, so contingencies will always be in place (including replacements in the transfer window).
In this case the only game that Brownhill has missed was the defeat to SheffU and this plus the quality of his contributions in all other games will have been noticed by other clubs.

I understand what you are saying but you didn't answer either of my questions.
Do you feel that Kompany would feel undermined if Pace was to sell one of the club's star performers in January?

Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
VK has shown us the quality of players that he can bring in on a budget. Any of the senior players from last season will be available if the price is right. I have no doubt they would be replaced with similar quality.
I very much doubt Josh would want to move to the level of club he would likely attract at best. He is clearly enjoying playing more attractive football than having thirty odd percent possession and running around a lot.

Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
I imagine that there would be a serious discussion between the Chairman, his board, the manager and the player. VK has confirmed that he has bought into the long term plans of the club, which includes the development and eventual sale of young players. I think that he would be phlegmatic about the sale of any player, so long as there aren’t multiple sales - especially in January.
Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
I'll answer. No. I believe any conversation about selling players would be taken place with the manager prior to any decision made. As said further up the thread, if we got 20-25m for Brownhill and the board said to Kompany you've got 10-15m to find a replacement are you happy, I imagine he might be. The way the transfer window panned out I'd back Kompany and his team to find a belting replacement for that kind of money.

Although I wasn't in conversation with you your reply only answers one of my questions.Conroy92 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 5:44 pmI'll answer. I would also back Kompany to find a replacement but that's not what I was asking.
If you would like to go back to my original 2 questions maybe you could answer the second one.
Also maybe you could tell me which club would be prepared to offer £25m for Josh Brownhill?

Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
Interesting to hear him describe himself as a ‘bit of a headless chicken’ and how VK and the coaching staff have made him think about his game differently. Just shows you how the top performers are always looking to adapt and improve, something Pep has always done with the elite players he’s worked with.

I stick by the view that if he starts for us the prem next year we will be relegated. He’s not a prem quality midfielder.claretcarrot93 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 11:44 amWorst midfielder at the club according to Newcastleclaret

Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
Josh ended last season very well and has flourished since the arrival of VK and his staff.
He clearly realises he's lucky to be a professional football player and gets Burnley. He's now become one of the fans' favourites.

Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
He’s just not good enough for the prem.
I think he’s been solid this season but I don’t think he’s been a world beater. I think there’s better players in our team that will make the step up.
To be fair I also think cork needs replacing on promotion. He’s excellent at this level but he will be year older coming up against some of the best athletes in the world.

- neutral Championship podcasts (the most popular ones) have him in their TOTY so far
- he’s still only 26 so can develop further (as he’s suggested he is doing from VK in this interview)
- completely different system now to what we played, direct straight lines 4-4-2, no comparison to the role and system he’s playing in now
- he also showed potential at that level with some outstanding performances, just not consistently enough
- probably wouldn’t start every game given VK’s willingness to rotate and make changes depending on opposition
You are welcome to your opinions, but with Brownhill it’s just an outright bias against him, as you aren’t willing to be open minded.

Re: EFL Podcast - Josh Brownhill
He may well be some way from the finished product and some way below PL central midfield level, but I expect him to just get better and better particularly under the current coaching. We have an investment on our hands

The new Dean Marney, underrated, questioned, but proved just how vital he is.
