Just watched episode one of Strike on IPlayer. The BBC drama written by JK Rowling.
In the first episode (Cuckoo calling) Robin's boyfriend returns home from work and sticks the radio on for football commentary (23mins in) whilst his girlfriend his telling him all about her day at work.... The commentator is no other than our very own Phil Bird. Though in the background I instantly recognised Phil's voice. (he should have had a credit lol).
I'd love to know whether it is a Clarets fan within the production team?

Watched the whole of Troubled Blood over 2 nights last week. Excellent stuff. And the TV version does justice to the book.

This series just goes to show what a seriously great writer J K Rowling is. The characters she creates are complex and not at all one dimensional. The Harry Potter series actually got slightly darker and more “grown up” with each new instalment. It was as if she was pitching the novels at a level comparable with the age of the central character as he got older and passed through puberty and into adulthood.
She is also not afraid to take a controversial stance but does not use her work as a vehicle to further that stance.
One of our best authors.

Pity the actors who made their names from playing the major characters didn't have a bit more backbone and not listen to social media and the Woke Massive

The abuse JK Rowling has received (still receives) online is shameful and disgusting.
In truth, she's a massive lefty so it's bizarre for somebody like me to end up defending her but she has behaved honourably and with dignity throughout.
Those who claim there is no such thing as cancel culture or that "woke" is just a right-wing insult rather than a real ideology should take a close look at the JK Rowling episode of the stupid and attritional culture war.
Not keen on her books BTW but might give the Strike thing a go. I do hope he has the nickname "Lucky".

Don’t want to trigger a pro/ anti trans debate but I do agree with Rowls’ comments regarding the way her comments have been received and the way she has been treated. There has been precious little attempt to engage with her in debate, rather she has been hounded by a howling mob. One that some of the beneficiaries of her talent, careers in mind, have been only too happy to join.
