Good play from Maatson

Another monster chance goes begging for Barnes last action. Twine on for him.

Which is one of the reasons why teams like United regularly pay £80 million quid for players like Antony!Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 9:34 pmI thought we had some quick lads but these United players are all rapid
We’ve acquitted ourselves well tonight and if we go back up, it won’t be games like this that determine whether we stay up or not.

I think we’ve done ok tonight. Tested against the best and worked out where we are at. Not many teams will go to Old Trafford and win. Think the Bournemouth game will be a much fairer assessment.

Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
Really pleased with several of us tonight and how we have adapted. A couple I think have clearly showed they won’t be good enough if we go up but on the whole I’m delighted and it bodes well.
But for the finishing we could be level. This United side are up for it too.

1 on target Vs about 5 very good chances
How are we still at this mentally disabling point where even our new boys are bottlers?

We are playing without 4 of our best attacking players in Jayrod, Tella, Zaroury and Vitinho. I would have loved to have seen them play tonight.
Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
Tonight reminds me how the thing about Premier League players, Champions League players and internationals is that they're all massive. It really struck me during our time in the Prem. They're all huge, even the players you think are a bit smaller. Luke Shaw for example. Absolute unit.

We’ve been good first half with no penetration or playing through centre mid, get that sorted with some new players in the summer and we have a chance to do well next year.

Agree Bournemouth will be a fairer comparison of our progress, tonight was always going to be tough, and Utd have picked a strong side and bench.SydneyClaret wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 9:41 pmI think we’ve done ok tonight. Some poor finishing by us. Got to take these chances against quality opposition like this.
Playing well (which we have) aint much good without any end product.

Forgot the top teams are allowed to kick other players when they want.

Could not agree more. Mctominay is a unit in the middle of the park (he’s making Cullen look tiny).Pickles wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 9:45 pmTonight reminds me how the thing about Premier League players, Champions League players and internationals is that they're all massive. Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
Shows that there's a huge difference between top of the Championship and a top 7 Premier league side.
But we're not aiming to be a top 6 side next year...
We're not so far off what we need but we have to accept that players who were "ok" in the Prem last year, yet ripping it up this year, are going to go back to being "ok" next year.
Very happy with what I've seen so far though, not terrrified about going up next year

Great experience this for our new band of brothers. They now know what level they are to achieve next season if they want to become established EPL Players.
Good effort but a big learning curve which can only improve us

Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
Hard to assess on one game away at utd, but i get the gist. It’s a step up. Would need 4-5 games to make that full assessment but cork and Barnes are approaching the end of their careers in what ever league where in.. brownhill not had the greatest game if he had the same level of performance against forest - Leeds - b/mouth etc. maybeCrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 9:42 pmReally pleased with several of us tonight and how we have adapted. Re: Man Utd v Burnley match thread
At this level the same issues remain in midfield as they did last season. Brownhill Cork and Cullen are nowhere near good enough. Too slow, not physical enough offer little in terms of either supporting the defence or the forwards.
Highlights the gap between the 2 levels.

Mine was a pleased positive post so I wouldn’t want to focus on the negatives but Brownhill and Barnes I’d say. Neither has changed the opinion I had last season. One too old and one too limited (but superb at the level below). Cork, even at his age, is fine.

We need to spend £40m on two centres mids unless Kompany knows some bargains somewhere.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 9:47 pmAt this level the same issues remain in midfield as they did last season. Dogshit.
Absolute joke.
Nothing offered at all. How can we still be stuck at the mid-dyche point after all this time?
