Re: Home Support
55k home fans... Jeez, what an absolute morgue.
Re: Home Support
Was it really a surprise? Every time we have played at Old Trafford in recent years it has been the same. We always make more noise than them even if we only have a couple of thousand fans there.

Re: Home Support
It’s a home game against Burnley. It will do as much to whet the appetite of fans as a home game would for us against Rotherham

Take it you weren't on the turf at the end of the Rotherham game. Even the BLS was on fire. Electric.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 12:27 amIt’s a home game against Burnley. It will do as much to whet the appetite of fans as a home game would for us against Rotherham
OT tonight felt like it had 55k home fans auditioning for Shaun of the Dead.

Re: Home Support
It’s interesting how where you sit in a ground can alter perception. I have been to Old Trafford five times to see Burnley play there now, and always thought the same. Very quiet.
Tonight I was fortunate enough to be in hospitality with seats right on the halfway line outside the boxes, and I have to say the United fans in the corner to my left (Burnley being in the corner to my right) were very loud all game, incessantly singing without pause the entire game. I’m sure that’s been the case every other time I’ve been there, but due to being in the away end I’d never heard them.
(Just for balance!).

Re: Home Support
I watched on TV last night and although Burnley fans sounded magnificent in the main, United fans also sounded very loud in chunks of the game too. And even when they weren’t their loudest, and it was our fans making most of the noise, you could still hear United’s chants though much more muffled.
It probably depends where you are, and if you’re in the middle of about 7,000 fans singing you’ll not hear the opposition.

I’d agree with this. Didn’t go last night but United fans could be heard regularly and clearly on the TV.Claretforever wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 7:30 amI watched on TV last night and although Burnley fans sounded magnificent in the main, United fans also sounded very loud in chunks of the game too. You could hear the corner of the Stretford End throughout but it wasn't that loud. We obviously aren't a draw for UTD but it was quieter than normal.

I was next to the tunnel where the utd " singing section " are located . To be honest they sang for most of the game but it was repetitive , especially the Cantona chant .

Always wary of the sound via TV as Sky, BT and whoever else have rights for games can alter the sound with the mics they position in the stadium. For example if there is a song coming through loud with swearing involved you'll notice it go very quiet for a few seconds until the song is over with.Claretforever wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 7:30 amI watched on TV last night and although Burnley fans sounded magnificent in the main, United fans also sounded very loud in chunks of the game too. Re: Home Support
Yeah and if United were losing getting frustrated and scored 2 last minute goals, the atmosphere would have been similar

Hunter Davies wrote a book, early 70s, “The Glory Game” in which he followed Spurs for a season. He writes about an away match at Coventry where he stood amongst the Spurs fans first half and thought they were fantastic with their backing. He stood at the other end second half and he couldn’t hear them at all.jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Dec 22, 2022 12:44 amIt’s interesting how where you sit in a ground can alter perception. Football grounds are not built for acoustics.
