Cardiff and Luton wins would make it a near perfect day.

Re: Boxing Day footy
8 point gap now between the top 2 and the rest, nothing is guaranteed in December but both Burnley & Sheff Utd must be highly favoured to finish the job and gain promotion from here particularly with the squad depth both possess.

Re: Boxing Day footy
Today is the first time I’ve watched him in a full game since our game at Coventry. Really impressed, but per your post, not really sure he offered enough to be classed as a £20m+ striker. £10-12m range for me, which is likely out of our range in any event.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Mon Dec 26, 2022 4:48 pmI think he's the best striker in the league
Even on a bad day, he looks like he could make things happen. The only question I have is how much is he worth without proven PL quality?
I'd say easily £13m. Maybe even £15m, but £20m is probably too much for a club who has to manage finances, like ourselves
Love Gustavo Hamer, wouldn’t mind a bid for him.
Re: Boxing Day footy
We are 1/6 odds on for promotion. Surprisingly Sheff U are only 7/4 in second.
Re: Boxing Day footy
Hamer is a good player too. Size wise a bit too similar to Cullen though.NewClaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 26, 2022 5:04 pmToday is the first time I’ve watched him in a full game since our game at Coventry. Re: Boxing Day footy
Everton fans moaning and groaning throughout the game apparently as they weren’t getting the ball forwards quick enough - players succumbed and they end up getting caught on the break. Sums up that fanbase.
Re: Boxing Day footy
Hmmm I think between Brownhill, Bastien and Westwood we have good enough cover for half the season.
Hamer is someone we could look at in the PL if the price is right. Only 25 and one year left on his contract.

Re: Boxing Day footy
The reason I can't see past is the inconsistency of everybody else, no-one appears capable of putting a long sequence of results together to challenge the top 2, who keep churning out the wins as well.
Re: Boxing Day footy
Re Everton getting relegated, I don't think the Premier league would let it happen if they can, as per last season they were helped about as much as they could re FFP and the " oh let's investigate it ,it was so difficult to spot" Richarlison flare incident. Said it before for the Prems international brand Everton v Liverpool in a massive fancy stadium next to the Mersey for excelled Cilla Blacks and Paul McCartneys around the globe is more beneficial than teams like Burnley,Watford etc.

Looking good for them I would be seriously disappointed if they caught us after the points start they give us doubt they will like.

Re: Boxing Day footy
I guess if we can open that much of a gap in half a season it could be closed in the 2nd half.
Though I doubt we will fall off in form to that extent.

Oh dear, how sad.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Mon Dec 26, 2022 5:01 pmIt will certainly be ironic if McNeil and Tarkowski both get relegated with Everton whilst we go in the other direction. I can see it happening if they stick with Frank.
Never mind!

Re: Boxing Day footy
Ha ha! Was just about to comment the same! Think it’s Clive Tyldesley with Townsend.
Really awful these two: the commentary team from hell!
Re: Boxing Day footy
I think it depends on who you compare them to. The female co-commentator who was on Sky for our game for Man U was utterly horrendous. And the co-commentator when we played QPR.
Re: Boxing Day footy
I reckon a good commentator knows when to shut up,these two have verbal dirrohea,it’s like why ten words when we can use a hundred.

Re: Boxing Day footy
Watching Villa v Liverpool, start of 2nd half and Villa have goal disallowed.
A announcement over the tannoy, 1 minute after play has restarted, confirms the goal disallowed and VAR check complete.... well obviously as play restarted with a Liverpool free kick. Is this message made by the stadium announcer or an auto message which is pre-recorded? Either way the lateness of the announcement is so bad it was funny.

Re: Boxing Day footy
Bloody hell there were some goals that day! Must be some kind of record?
Clarets have been pretty much uniformly terrible on Boxing Day during my time, glad to see it wasn't always the case.

The reverse fixtures 2 days later. Fulham scored 10 lost the return, Rovers scored 8 away lost the return, we scored 6 lost the return(Best came in for his second appearance and stayed in), Wed won 3-0 then lost 3-0. An unbelievable 3 days. I’ve long thought what a day that would have been for Jeff Stelling and the boys. They should re-enact it.

Don’t think we should assume they’ll all be with us at the end of January mate.
But yes, if promoted I think he’d be a decent signing that suits our system.

1-0 to the hammers. Clear pen. No real need for such a delay, VAR check, players protesting.
