Defo not one to watch back but sign of top team to see out an ugly 1-0 win when nowhere near at our best - onwards and upwards
Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Ugly win but do who cares.
Muric man of the match for me today.

Mad league is this. There's the same gap between 1st and 3rd as there is 3rd and 23rd

A scrappy, scruffy win. But its another clean sheet and three points.

Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
14.5 points clear of third (when you consider goal difference) after 25 games. Phenomenal.
Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
This result is absolutely crucial.
I think we’ll look back at this one and
see it as the launch pad for promotion.
Some tough games still to come admittedly
and we’ve got to lose sooner or later
but delighted it wasn’t tonight.
Come on you Clarets!

Think that just highlights how incredibly poor the division is this year.
Apart from Sheffield and ourselves he rest of the league are much of a muchness. They all lack quality teams full of sloggers

I think the chasing teams need us to fall off a cliff and still get 2.2 points a game. That will be difficult for any of them and I honestly can't see this team falling off a cliff. Fulham lost 10 last season and still won the league.

Championship winning performance.

A fabulous 3 points away against extremely tough opposition . If we get promotion these are the games which may not be remembered but they are so, so important.
Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Great win that against some parasite football. Stoke were absolutely horrific. If you play that way you have to get results or your fans will vote with their feet as they clearly are doing, it was Ricoh arena empty tonight.
Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Sheff Utd have to play them yet. Hope they are the same then.
Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Brentford won at West Ham 2.0. Could that spell the end of Moyes.
Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
My stream had the Stoke radio announcers. At one point their guest announcer said the ref had been Stoke's best player. Haha.burnley007 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 9:45 pmProper Champions win that.
Stoke are awful, that ref was pathetic.

Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Stoke are truly garbage, BUT lumping aimless balls forward and booting long free kicks into our box is actually the only way to stop us playing and get something against us and until the final whistle I feared they might actually get something. Ugly win for sure and far more a Dyche type win the a Kompany win, but who will care at the end of April!!?

Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Be interesting to see what team he starts with at Swansea. Jay, Tella and Zaroury should be in good condition having only played less than a half so wouldn’t surprise me if they start as our front 3.
Middle of the park will be an interesting one though as all 3 put in a serious shift tonight!
Hope Beyer’s okay; he’s been immense!

Thought Stoke were one of the better sides we've played this season.

Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Proper win that, miles from our fluent best but dug it out. We were drawing those games earlier this season, not anymore. Muric with two world class saves first half and 2 huge moments early in the 2nd, good job he's fast off his line, one of his biggest strengths is sweeping up behind the defensive line, not given credit for that enough.
I think the referees gets worse by the week in this league, seriously what an inept bunch of clowns they are. In the PL VAR exposes them further.

Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
I really hope we sign Beyer. He has improved so much since he has been here and can only get better.
Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Big factor tonight as well was that we actually had some luck as well.
Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Typical Stoke big team and physical with plenty of fouls
Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Got a feeling one or two of the others might go on a heck of a run if they get the momentum. If it all carries on as it is, there's going to be an all in one scrap for the playoffs and against relegation.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 9:49 pmThink that just highlights how incredibly poor the division is this year.

Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
They played the sort of football which is most likely to beat us. So therefore they played good football. Like we did so often with Dyche.

How much do refs get in this league? Stealing a living going off that. How can they get things so wrong?
The foul on benson was so obvious

Having watched 180 minutes from Birmingham and Stoke , its apparent neither of these sides have any quality. Both happy to lump it up and hoping for a second ball. Thought in both games our aerial defending has really improved

Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Can’t see it personally. No one outside of Burnley and Sheffield has shown any kind of ability to go on a run. West Brom started to and they lost to Coventry.
Anyone trying to catch the top two now would have to win north of 15 of there remaining games

They certainly stopped us playing but this was a really good performance in so far we stuck in and ground out a result.
If I were a Stoke fan i would be a tad miffed at losing. Really was a scrappy goal and their scrappy effort in the first half didn't end up in the net fortunately

Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
It was required, and will be again. We play a style where players need a break, the fixtures come thick and fast, and you need to utilise the squad. Churlinov didn't fire, but neither did Benson at first. He needs the game time more than most, and he'll come good.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 9:49 pmBeyer, by a country mile, for me.

46 game division, Royboy. Plus cups. He’s handling it very well for me. Keeping the forwards fresh and Charlie coming on to close out games at the back.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 9:49 pmBut perhaps a lesson for VK, don't mess if not required.

Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Fair play TT, but in the 50 minutes he was on, Churlinov looked anything but a wide left player. That was basically the point I was highlighting, when we know exactly what Zaroury is capable of in that position.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:33 pm46 game division, Royboy. Plus cups. Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Yet Zaroury offered arguably even less than Churlinov tonight! Their right back played well.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:38 pmFair play TT, but in the 50 minutes he was on, Churlinov looked anything but a wide left player. Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
My opinion for what's it's worth Stoke where the worst team we have played this season and consequently dragged us to their level...a very ugly win against an ugly team..
Onwards and upwards Swansea will be a tad more difficult

Re: Stoke v Burnley Match Thread
Remember the saying "who wants to play at Stoke on a cold wet Tuesday night". Well its not much better on a Friday and don't underestimate the importance of coming away with 3 points, irrespective of how ugly the game was
