According to the squad list on this site he is contracted with us until 2025...presumably June of that year.

Mentions 3m euros to Besiktas but not what the loan deal is with us. You’d expect them to be paying all his wages but you’d hope there’s a loan fee as well.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 6:02 pmhttps://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/stat ... 3047854090

Maybe the argument is that we’ve already had a full season loan fee from Besiktas and all United are doing is buying the loan agreement from them.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 6:05 pmSo what are we getting?

Regardless of finances out of this particular deal I think this is great for us.
Hopefully he does well enough and we can get back the full 12m (or more) from someone in the summer.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
So… originally I thought we’d just got €2.5m to cover his wages for the year. Sure that was what was reported at the time. Now I’m starting to wonder if we actually got €2.5m for the loan and they paid his wages.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 6:05 pmSo what are we getting?

Assuming so, Besiktas now get €3m back so they’ve had him for free for half a season + €500k.
Then it presumably depends on whether we loan him to United for free or another fee? Would seem odd for us to just go along with all this for no benefit.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
It doesn't make sense for this to happen if there isn't direct financial benefit for Burnley, which to me makes it seem like a fair assumption that United are making this worth our while.
Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
We could benefit indirectly. If he plays well for Man U, we can command a larger fee in the summer. I do wish it would be sorted soon though it's boring me to tears. We need an incoming signing to liven the transfer window up a bit.

I know we may get our money back for him if he does well at United, but at the moment we're down 12m on the player and Besitkas are 3m up on him despite not even owning him. Crazy.

If we had a recall clause in the agreement, we probably would have had to return some of the fee Besiktas paid if we’d have activated it.Flying Without Ings wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 6:24 pmI know we may get our money back for him if he does well at United, but at the moment we're down 12m on the player and Besitkas are 3m up on him despite not even owning him. The way I’ve understood it is Man Utd have repaid Besiktas that fee and presumably also paid us a loan fee.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
You'd have to be really negative about us to think this doesn't benefit us
Even if all they are doing is paying his wages (v doubtful that we aren't getting some sort of loan fee), then we aren't losing anything by this
I like him, want him to stay, but I do appreciate that might not be in anyone's best interests so this a terrific chance for us to get at least our money back on him

Quite frankly I think this clouds our issues around signing a new striker.
Our money is tied up because of the WW situation but we could find that we get him back next season, even if neither party is happy with this.

How does it cloud anything?
WW is out on loan for the season, it happens that the borrowing club in the second half is going to be a different club to the one that borrowed him in the first half.
He was never coming back to us in season 22/23 so he would never feature in our incoming transfer plans

I don’t care what he was specifically doing - I just know he wasn’t celebrating like everyone else. Are the rest of the subs and coaches fan boys ? They seemed rather excited. Especially since they are supposed to be professional footballers and all that - which requires an emotionless reaction at all times. Wout must be the most professional of them all cos he did not even raise a fecking smile,
I said in the rest of my post that wasn’t necessarily my view and can see both sides.
I also said that any footballer would be doing the same as Weghorst in trying to get a move to United.

As others have said it changes nothing. In fact you could argue we’re more likely to get a decent fee for him given the wider exposure he’ll have playing at United.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 6:33 pmQuite frankly I think this clouds our issues around signing a new striker.

The mighty Man Utd borrowing from little Burnley?
A player negotiating his own loan deals?
Stinks to me. And Besiktas... I hope we never have to do business with them again.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Sky have put together a video of Wout Weghorst's 2 goals and 3 assists for Burnley half-season.
First goal was a shot from edge of box at Brighton. It was a great move by the team, Connor Roberts got the assist pulling the ball back for Wout Weghorst to hit it first time into the bottom corner.
His second goal was a header at West Ham, out jumping the defenders and heading home after the ball came back off the crossbar.
Wout Weghorst got his first assist at Brighton, playing the ball through to Josh Brownhill to score our second.
His best assist was his turn and reverse pass, cutting out 2 or 3 defenders, for Jay Rod to run onto and slot past De Gea in our 1-1 draw v Man United.
Wout Weghorst's other assist saw Matej Vydra scoring.
It appears one or two on here may have forgotten what Wout Weghorst can do.
Let's see what happens through the rest of the season. If Wout Weghorst can get another half-season in the Premier League with ManU I'd be delighted that he would return to Burnley and add Premier League goal scoring experience to the Clarets. Whatever else happens, Vincent Kompany and his team will be able to use Wout Weghorst's time at ManU to fully assess his abilities.
Tot ziens.

As far as I can see, everyone benefits from this deal;-
Man utd get a great player.
Wout gets a dream move.
Besiktas gain a fee.
Burnley get their player loaned out ( or sold ) to a trustworthy big club
Happydays for everyoneconcerned. .

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
My initial recollection of Weghorst when he first replaced Chris Wood were sensational. The ball just stuck to him and he chased and pressed everything. He was a catylyst for the crowd and our demoralised team. He lifted the crowd, with great link up play, and came deep when defending. Could not believe he cost half of what we got for Wood
As time went on, round about March, I saw his motivation go-it seemed all was not well with SD and him and at times he was on the bench. He never really recovered and missed a couple of sitters during critical games. Then at the end of the season we saw the crocodile tears as we were relegated but within 24 hours was planning a move away. Hardly surprising him and Connor Roberts had a spat at the end of Wales v Holland
He has undoubted skills but Burnley fans have long memories. Being in the window with Man Utd will hopefully raise his sale value for us then we can cash in

We’re not talking about Roberts we’re talking about WW. I simply gave an additional example as a few posters were saying the assessment of his character was based on one incident.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 4:25 pmInteresting how Weghorst is adjudged to be "mouthy" when reacting to some of Messi's petulance yet Roberts is " a proud Welshman" when he yaps at Weghorst....
You’re making a value judgement yourself when you describe Messi’s behaviour as “petulance.”

All the positives in this deal seem to assume that WW is going to be at least a partial success at MU which I hope to be the case and feel that this is most likely.
However I trust in our people that we will maximise the upsides but equally safeguard against the potential downside (ie that he is an abject failure at MU)

If Alan was that shrewd he would have put a recall clause in the contract with Besiktas then they wouldn’t be picking up anything from this deal. Plus we are lumbered with a player who didn’t want to play for us if we got relegated for two years on £50k per week.

Also, when we get him back we could well find ourselves in a similar situation as at the start of this season.
We still stand to possibly lose value on our original purchase. There's something like £10m out there we can't use.

Given AP has been pretty shrewd in all his other transfer dealings so far I think it’s fairer to assume that he was as shrewd with the Weghorst deal as he was allowed to be by the other parties involved.

Obviously we all hope he does extremely well - I’m just a little bit miffed at all the talk on twitter being about how much BJK are demanding and then what MU might gain from his style of play whilst we hold his registration for some significant time and are also taking a gamble (however small some may think that is)boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 7:21 pmYes, my concerns include that he might "bomb" at Man U.

Think it’s a pretty simple negotiation, they paid us 2.5mil to cover his wages, so are asking for the same back from united, United must then be paying his wages and have a option to buy

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
That's a good question considering most transfers are now paid in stages, plus as far as I'm aware nobody is privy to whether our outgoing fee was dependent on add-on's or not.
Be glad when he signs for Utd this saga feels like it's rumbled on forever.
Best case scenario is he bags a good tally at Utd, and either they buy him permanently in the summer, or other clubs are alerted to him.
Can't completely rule out WW returning to Burnley next season but that looks a long shot currently.

If it goes through and it’s a loan arrangement let’s hope United are kicking themselves they didn’t sign him permanently when the bidding war breaks out at the end of the season amongst the top European clubs.
