Good player. I'll be interested to see how he does.

Cannot blame Besiktas for trying to get the most out of this. I'd like to think that we would do the same.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Yep! in the modern game players have all the power rightly or wrongly.
No point Besiktas forcing him to stay if his heart was set on OT.
From Burnley's POV this could work to our advantage, if Weghorst scores a few in the PL it will be noticed and his fee might rise, whereas even though he bagged a decent amount in Turkey few would have been following his progress, but the spotlight is most certainly on the PL and Man Utd every game.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Just found it https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/t ... r-25954821
They are keen on signing Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar from Al Nassr but wages have so far been a stumbling block to any deal. It is understood United will pay around £2.5million to Besiktas as compensation so they terminate the loan, allowing Burnley to sanction a temporary move to Manchester. Burnley would also receive a loan fee from the Premier League side and United would cover the forward's wages.
Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
A win / win situation for the Clarets then.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Man U have bought out the loan agreement but do Besiktas still have the agreement in place to buy WW for £10m at the end of the season - or do we still have a say in this?
Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Sounds to me that Man U have paid Besiktas to terminate the original loan and now have a new 6 month loan deal with Burnley. Assume a small loan fee an Man U paying wages and an option to buy at an agreed amount

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Utd won’t buy Weghotst.
He is a stop gap till the Summer, when they will probably buy Harry Kane for about £80 million.
The best we can hope for is that he has a good six months at Utd. He can than either come back to us or we can still get our money back by selling him on.

I think you're right, unless Wout bags a bucketful of goals and they keep him instead. I reckon we're well in either way, as someone said earlier, 'the best shop window in the world' and/or we get to see for ourselves how he'd perform for us in next year's PL.

I can't imagine Besiktas wanting anything to do with him after this malarky.SalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 11:50 amMan U have bought out the loan agreement but do Besiktas still have the agreement in place to buy WW for £10m at the end of the season - or do we still have a say in this?

Considering we hold his registration as he's our player for another 2 years or so he won't be allowed to move to Man U. without our say so.SalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 11:50 amMan U have bought out the loan agreement but do Besiktas still have the agreement in place to buy WW for £10m at the end of the season - or do we still have a say in this?

VK on WW staying at Burnley
"It has to play out how it plays out. If he's wanting, willing and everything is right, then it makes it easier than to go and spend more money in the transfer market."

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
As was asked on another forum, when was the last time a top 4 PL team signed an unwanted player from a Championship club?
Can't have happened too many times before.

He will probably go to Newcastle in the summer.
I think he would do ok for ys in the PL and thus system, but trust in VK and what he believes.

If all these signings come off and they prove to be the rough diamonds VK's previous ones have been, it'll be fantastic business longer term.IanMcL wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 1:22 pmLooks like we have secured our first summer signing!

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Yes on a short term loan deal until the end of the season, let's see whether they are interested in buying him permanently come the summer.
Hopefully from Burnley's perspective they are, but if not and he does well at Utd that can only enhance our prospects of recouping all or most of our initial outlay.
You can never be certain about anything in football but I'll be surprised if Weghorst returns to Burnley, and if he doesn't wish to come back, or VK doesn't want him then the best we can expect is too at least break even on this transfer, sometimes transfers don't work out for a variety of reasons, and sadly it appears that's been the outcome here.

£25m is the going rate for strikers beginning with W for Newcastle so I'd be more than happy with that.grapidianclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 3:03 pmHe will probably go to Newcastle in the summer.

A front 3 of Weghorst, Wilson and Wood would certainly prove a mouthful for the commentators.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Which of his comments made you think that ?claretcarrot93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 3:19 pmHe would be wanted. Going off Kompany's comments today he clearly rates him.
All I heard was that anyone contracted to Burnley he needs to have a conversation with as it could potentially save going into the transfer market.
Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Alsorts of permutations but surely the best was that he stayed, continued scoring goals at Besiktas and they then bought him in the summer?tiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 3:20 pmYes on a short term loan deal until the end of the season, let's see whether they are interested in buying him permanently come the summer.

So Man U. paying €3 million to Besiktas.
Will we get anything out of the deal?

careful Bobinho, I was castigated on here for using the term "straw-chewer," some of the castigations even deleted. I guess referring to posters as muppets is less of a sin
Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
I would assume Besiktas paid us a loan fee and agreed to cover his wages for the full season. I expect that United are just compensating Besiktas for terminating his loan early while also picking up his wages for the rest of the season. I’m not sure we get paid again as we will have already received the loan fee for the full year from Besiktas.

This article (unsure of source), seems to think we’ll be splitting the loan fee. No purchase option.
Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
If the loan deal has been cancelled then surely that includes the buy out clause , or you would hope so.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
Good luck to him. If he does well, chances of us getting our money back on him increase (Besiktas' option wasn't worth much to us - the option was in their favour so was basically a maximum purchase price and didn't guarantee us anything). If he doesn't go particularly well then we'll have him back a bit more Premier League hardened.
Pretty sure he'll suit United's 433 system better than the 442 he came into last season, just as he'd suit VKs system better. He's a classic Dutch forward and thrives with players running in behind him from wide and/or the 10 position.

Re: Weghorst to… Man United?
I think that’s exactly it. Puts him ‘more’ in the shop window to fund players in the summer if we go up or he comes back to us and plays in the league above with us. We can’t afford a goal scorer in the premier league, it’s the one position clubs barely get a bargain in, as it takes a long time for the players to adopt. I can only think of Michu (Dennis perhaps for Watford but don’t know the fee, probably quite a bit) who managed it and how many years ago was that? So I wouldn’t be averse to him coming back in as long as the squad are happy with that.claretspice wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 8:33 amGood luck to him. It would be interesting (to me at least) to see how he might get on at Man Utd...can he manage half a season without throwing his toys out of his pram?

Well it hasn't done him much harm has it? He's just signed for Manchester United after just recently returning from the World Cup finals, maybe if you'd shown a bit more of his attitude you'd be a Shipyard.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 9:34 pmBesiktas for starters.
