Gareth Bale retires from football

Post by GodIsADeeJay81 » Mon Jan 09, 2023 3:24 pm

Just announced.

Great player in his prime, the most successful British player to play abroad I think

Thought he’d done that just before the World Cup!

Thought there'd be Wales nostalgia in his retirement statement.

Yup, got right to the top and although it fizzled out at the end, he seems like someone who enjoys his life and has his priorities in order.

He has done one for his 'Welsh family' too

Strange career.
Probably spent 80% of his time at Real just phoning it in yet walked about with about five Champions League medals.

Wasn't it him that put the cross over for that guy to hit the goal in the semi-final 2nd leg against Spurs at the Turf that basically broke our hearts :(
I've actually got a signed shirt of his from his Real Madrid days somewhere in the attic.

Yep, it was him. I don't think he'd won a game playing for Spurs at that point.

For the last few seasons he came across as somebody who would almost pick and choose when he could be arsed to play for his club and would prefer to be on the golf course than the football pitch. To me, his retirement feels a bit 'meh'.

He was unbelievable that season for Spurs before signing for Real.

Not a bad career won 5 Champions Leagues, and captained his nation at a World Cup.

He's been overshadowed due to playing in the same era as Messi & Ronaldo, but most players would settle for what he's achieved before hanging up his boots.

I remember Bale and Modric scored for Spurs in our last home game of the first spell in the Premier league. Two absolutely outstanding players.

We of course went on to win 4-2.🙂

He made a much bigger contribution that that, until Zidane.

Won some silver that lad, treated badly by Real Madrid all things considered. (Although not financially)

One of those ex footballers that you just know would make a dreadful manager.

One of them kept on working on his game and improving and is still one of the world's best players.

Genuinely unstoppable on his day. One of the most meteoric rises I can recall in terms of ability too.

Hardly surprising, at club level GB's given the impression for three or four years now that he's been playing solely for the paycheck rather than any pleasure in what he's doing
