Re: Gyokeres
he was excellent first half
Re: Gyokeres
It looked to me like he didn't want to score against us!
Perhaps he knows something we don't!

Re: Gyokeres
Scared Beyer half to death in parts and possibly the reason we took Cork off.
Re: Gyokeres
Yes he’s just what we need.Strong lad, good feet and pace.

Re: Gyokeres
Looked very good 1st half
Beyer/Taylor dealt with him really effectively 2nd half (bar the back pass)
But yeah, would really suit us

I thought he was brilliant. He ran Taylor particularly ragged all afternoon

Best striker I’ve seen in this league all season. Has it all. Was doing the runs behind, coming short, working the channels, was strong. Very very good footballer there.
They’re right back too. Surely worth a look at

Re: Gyokeres
Haha that reads really badly. I meant his runs inside ( 1st half only) had Beyer looking scared a couple of times Cork came across to cover and had he mistimed his challenge he would have been sent off so this was possibly the reason for the change.
FWIW I think Beyer got to grips with him in the 2nd and was superb.

Re: Gyokeres
He looks a very good championship centre forward. Not convinced he's a PL player and don't think he's worth the money quoted but he'd probably do very well in our team.

Re: Gyokeres
Played well first half faded in the 2nd after he messed up the opening we gifted him. Interesting to see if we try again for him towards the end of the month think he’d rather be playing for us over Coventry.
Re: Gyokeres
See Nicklas Bendtner and that other Scandinavian throw around that even we had on loan, his name escapes me...from City I think?? Someone help me

I agreed with this,I was watching the match and thought there would be a thread on this.He had a good game I don’t think he’s out special. Not worth 20m which is being quoted.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 8:18 pmHe looks a very good championship centre forward. John Guidetti. And he looked a much much better player than him.

Re: Gyokeres
He was direct..liked to run at defenders and his hold up play and touch was excellent. Messed up his one big chance.
Just the type of striker we need I think.

Re: Gyokeres
Time will tell but the similarities are striking, that chance he had, infront of The lord Vincent Kompany and the league leaders, he was clueless, where was ge going? Was it Brownhill that eventually got back (from midfield) to make the challenge?Cheshireclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 8:34 pmJohn Guidetti. And he looked a much much better player than him.

Re: Gyokeres
As a quick comparison.
Two years ago, Vydra was quicker, had better close control and would have got a shot off when he didn’t.
Not very impressed to be fair.
Good in the championship, but prem league, not for me.

He’s going to be a good Premier League player before long. Tired along with the whole of their team but frightened us to death for first 45 minutes. Imagine him in our side, with our possession and chances.

Re: Gyokeres
Looks a good striker, not sure he’s worth the 20m Coventry want for him. Not convinced he would get double figures in the prem.
25 this summer so should be reaching his peak in the next few seasons.

Re: Gyokeres
Agree I think his average finishing ability would come unstuck in the Prem with better keepers. 10-15m I’d be keen but nothing over that. Surely better options.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 9:10 pmLooks a good striker, not sure he’s worth the 20m Coventry want for him. Not convinced he would get double figures in the prem.

His price keeps going up. Earlier this afternoon it was £12m, then it was £15 and now it's £20m.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 9:10 pmLooks a good striker, not sure he’s worth the 20m Coventry want for him. Not convinced he would get double figures in the prem.

Re: Gyokeres
Best centre forward I've seen this season. His strength and speed worried us in the first half. Faded after he messed up in the second half and it was noticeable that as the game wore on he became more and more isolated as his support obviously tired.

I agree, for a lad that always looks so heavily involved his goal returns has always been just ok.
I agree if it was 10-15m mark you would take the risk.

Re: Gyokeres
He looked very good first half. Suspect his price tag will be well beyond our means this window unfortunately. For context we'd be looking at 4-5 times more than we're likely to need to pay for Obafemi.
Re: Gyokeres
It was widely reported at £12 million during the summer when clubs such as Fulham were sniffing around. This was 6 months ago.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 9:15 pmNot really it’s been reported for the last 9 months that Coventry want 20m for him.

He made one in the first half to his left, which was a curling shot towards the top corner from outside the penalty area - wasn't Gyokeres, however.Sheedyclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 9:22 pmHe was ok but did our keeper make a save all afternoon?

Looked a very good forward today. Good strength, pace, strong running, decent touch, physical. Very impressed.
I’d be trying to strike a deal if it was even remotely possible.

Re: Gyokeres
Imagine us in the Prem but with our new style and Kompany pulling power.
Then imagine what striker we could get for £15m. I reckon a better one than we have signed in the last decade. Better than Gyokeres for that money. He was very good but we can do better.

Re: Gyokeres
Good strikers will want good wages though and unlike any other position in the team will be very difficult to get one that's gone under the radar.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 9:52 pmImagine us in the Prem but with our new style and Kompany pulling power.

Scoring goals tends to get you noticed and any player scoring at a good level will probably cost more than 15m in today's market.

Re: Gyokeres
I thought Beyer had him pretty much under control all afternoon; he never got a shot away
That he didn’t even manage a goalward poke from the 3 or 4 opportunities in his meander across the box after the back pass suggests he has a way to go before he will be comfortable in the Prem. Plus everything Coventry did going forward was about getting the ball to him, which he won’t get in the Prem.
His petulance with ref and teammates in the second half was reminiscent of Bendtner.
It’s a no from me.

Re: Gyokeres
Be surprised if we can even dream about buying him during this January Windows. Maybe if we can get promoted and with money raised from the Weghorst circus. But just a reminder, we are 16 points clear of 3rd place and have scored 53 goals, that is more than anyone else in the four divisions, so we are in no need to find £15million now.

Re: Gyokeres
Vydra would have scored plenty of goals in the Premier League under VK but Dyche has a weak spot for managing creative players. Its no surprise he ended up falling out with Ings, couldn't get a tune out of Stanislas and ruined McNeill.Spijed wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 10:53 pmGood strikers will want good wages though and unlike any other position in the team will be very difficult to get one that's gone under the radar.

On the flip slide boy could he get players organised, able to defend and work their socks off
