Eating out Pub recomendation ...
The wifes been to a Birthday Carvery Lunch with some friends today to The Buck Inn at Paythorne nr Gisburn. She says the food and service was fantastic. Most tables full of customers ... a lot of pub/restaurants dream of that in January (a traditional quiet time)

By far the best pub in the area, nothing pretentious, no fancy gastropub nonsense, just good pub grub in a friendly, traditional setting.Bosscat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 15, 2023 6:00 pmThe wifes been to a Birthday Carvery Lunch with some friends today to The Buck Inn at Paythorne nr Gisburn. We went to the Windmill at Brascote a couple of times over the weekend, my son was visiting from Sussex, and the Singapore rice was as delicious as ever.
The Mad Doug bitter was also excellent as well although at £4.30 a pint Burnley folk might find it unpaletable.

It's 1 of the better 1s for sure in the RV area since BH & maypole have pretty much shut up shop for me leaving the village it's in within relative close proximity.

Hapton Inn is absolutely fantastic. That and Four Alls in higham are the best around.

I well aware of that but in my eyes it might as well be shut if I don't go in there, I'm not going into the reasons why on a public forum I'd air my reasons on tripadvisor.

How much are these excellent Pubs charging for their food? Presume they won't be Spoons prices.

Re: Eating out Pub recomendation ...
The people who now have the Maypole Licence were at the Boars Head for many years before they took on the Maypole after it was bought for refurbishment. The Boars Head is now under refurbishment by Punch Taverns (too long overdue was dropping to bits) and they say will be open in the Spring ... Be interesting to know why you won't go in The Maypole Jakub as many locals frequent the Pub doing the poplular Friday Quiz and dining there...Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 3:55 pmYou only have to upset enough locals & you miss out on repeat custom & then you are on a sticky wicket, I wouldn't rely on passing footfall if I was them put it that way.

I'm sorry the intrigue will have to remain because I'm not telling you as I don't think it's any of your business to be perfectly frank, I'm now regretting opening my mouth in the first place I've told you I don't go in there for my own personal valid reasons & that's that.Bosscat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 6:00 pmThe people who now have the Maypole Licence were at the Boars Head for many years before they took on the Maypole after it was bought for refurbishment. Re: Eating out Pub recomendation ...
Does anyone have any personal recommendations for local restaurants that are different from the identi-kit gastro pubs? There seems to be so many in the RV (higher/lower buck, Bonny inn, black bull at old langho etc etc) and I feel like there must be some decent, more interesting places to eat.
Re: Eating out Pub recomendation ...
Frankly, I’d be hugely concerned if I was a pub that Jakubclaret DID want to frequent. In my eyes, if he won’t go in, it’s probably a cracking pub that doesn’t tolerate idiots in there.
Back on topic, I’ll certainly be giving The Buck Inn a go. I’m a big fan of good pub food.

On a slightly different note ... I was chatting with my Brother in Law the other week (who lives in Read) and he was saying "The Stork" in Simonstone is struggling ... haven't been in there for a few years but always enjoyed the atmosphere and the craic
Re: Eating out Pub recomendation ...
Wagoner Manchester Rd, never been disappointed good portion size as well.
Re: Eating out Pub recomendation ...
Not a pub as such (it does have a bar!)and a little further afield but I’d highly recommend The Barn at Scorton. We’ve been a couple times over the last couple of months and the food has been great.

Jakub suspected that the duck dish they were serving were ducks poached from the canal by some local Polish lads. As a result he now refuses to go there on principle.
Whilst I'm here I can't remember if I've previously mentioned it before but if you want top quality food at a good price then look no further that the highly acclaimed restaurant that is Sycamore Farm down the Lowerhouse side of town just off Liverpool Rd. It

There's loads of nice places sometimes without even travelling this place never disappoints the odd time I've visited.

Shireburn at HG is equally as good.

DA is spot on.
Sycamore Farm is quality…..and not only is it quality it’s also quantity.
I tend to bring my own 12 inch plate so I can fill it at the carvery.
I’ve been to restaurants all around the world but nothing beats the SF Carvery…..nothing.
Michelin star fully deserved and just a matter of time before they pick up their second.

Amazes me how so many appear to be struggling with bills but then can afford to eat out in pubs. Whilst I can I refuse to pay some of the prices in these pubs. Can’t remember the last time I went for a family meal in a pub. Used to use them quite frequently.

Some will be the same people, like you say though it is amazing very amazing how some people can find money for certain pleasures whilst falling behind on other priorities. I think some people just live in the now moment which isn't necessarily a bad thing if the future looks bleak.Boss Hogg wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 9:03 amAmazes me how so many appear to be struggling with bills but then can afford to eat out in pubs. You should try it in Sycamore Farm.
I might be able to get you a booking - I don’t think they let anyone in.
But happy to try and get you in. I can make a few calls.
I’ll get my people to talk to your people.
