Chris Wood
Looks as though he's on his way to Forest on loan with an option to buy
Re: Chris Wood
You can't see the Forest for the Woods.

Re: Chris Wood
Now thats a surprise.
Not that Newcastle are moving him on…. We all saw that coming before he’d actually put pen to paper for them. The surprise is he’s moving to another PL club…. Well, they are for the time being at least.
No doubt forest will be hoping he doesn’t find himself back in his comfort zone.

He's had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus!
Re: Chris Wood
I was disappointed when he left us but in his time at Newcastle he didn't pull up any trees.

Apart from loans when he was a young player at West Brom, he's only had five clubs.

He isn't really a PL striker these days that's why as forest will be shortly finding out he'll still get the odd goal here or there but nowhere near anything prolific.

Looks like we got a very good price for him in the end, he's failed to rediscover the form he had here for those first 3yrs

I can't remember wasn't Wilson injured then maybe I'm wrong but you are right anyway because even if Wilson was fit he wasn't going to displace him.

He wasn’t really in Newcastle long enough to put down roots and I’m sure he “leaves” on good terms.

But it didn’t. If they’d done their homework and had him watched, they wouldn’t realised very quickly that leaving him here would have had the desired effect, and cost them nothing.

I wonder if Burnley fans will give him stick if we plays against us one day? I don't think everyone twigged what my first post was about.

Re: Chris Wood
Read thru the entire thread and can’t find any real bitterness. Maybe one or two (including me) pointing out he isn’t all that.
From my own perspective I was happy when we signed him - I thought it was quite a coup.
I was happy with his efforts and the returns we got from him for quite a while. Certainly I was whilst we played to his strengths. He got some great goals and put in some excellent performances whilst giving us a good return quite regularly.
But then there was the last period. I’m sure you know of which period I refer to. The “quite clearly can’t be arsed” period. I can’t and won’t forgive him for being that way whilst taking a massive amount of money out of the club and wearing the shirt.
I’d put him on the list of players who managed to do a decent job for us for a while, but wasn’t actually that good a footballer. His last few months left a very sour taste in my mouth I’m afraid. His goals dried up (as they do occasionally for strikers) but it was his poor attitude and commitment to the cause which got my back up along with his departing comments.
The manager could’ve selected someone from the Bob Lord stand to play instead of him and he would’ve got more effort and no worse a goal return.

Re: Chris Wood
Our top scorer 4 years on the bounce wasn't he, and we made a decent profit on him.
That said we were right to get rid when we did he seriously struggled in his last season at Burnley, or half a season as it turned out.

Re: Chris Wood
Seemed to be perpetually offside last season, which would tally with his comments about being in his "comfort zone". Think they did us a favour activating his release clause with the benefit of hindsight. No way we would have got £25M for him.

Re: Chris Wood
Scored a lot of goals for us but it often felt like we were playing with 10 men when he wasn't scoring. Was really poor towards the end and hasn't shown anything since. I'd be very surprised if he finds his shooting boots at Forest tbh.

Personally think he played in a system that flattered him for a number of years. Showed towards the end he had very little about him as a footballer and the comments about comfort zone did nothing to disguise the fact he hadn't been trying for at least 6 months. I was happy to see the back of him.

Strange how differently the two are viewed by some Burnley fans.

Interesting one with Wood. Never had a crowd chant despite being a regular PL scorer either. Scored a few in the Europa league qualifiers as well.
Re: Chris Wood
I'm also convinced that rumours he knew he was going to Newcastle months before he went and did his upmost to "help them out" have substance, allegedly.dougcollins wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 5:59 pmI kind of believe that to be the case. I remember people saying Eddie was 'too nice' to do that.

Re: Chris Wood
I’d suggest it isn’t strange at all. Ings was all action, all effort and some considerable skill. Very exciting to watch and brought others into the game really well.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 5:57 pmDid better for us than the much loved Ings and we got more money for him when he left.

Wood will be remembered for other things. Sure he got a few goals (double figures in four straight seasons if memory serves) and did very well for a time, but as mentioned his last six months and the unbelievable fee trumps everything for me.

Re: Chris Wood
I feel for Chris Wood. At the end of the the 20/21 season he scored 8 in 8 to help keep us up before we were on the beach for the last 3 games. I said at the time and stand by it that the Olympics was his downfall. After the tough season he’d had with us, following on from the disruption of the covid season, he had a short break before going into Olympic training with NZ. On returning to us his spark had gone and with it went his goals. At 31 I think he’s done as a top level player now but he didn’t deserve to have a bad ending with us after all he had put in.
Re: Chris Wood
As has been mentioned earlier had played in a team that was built around him. Didn’t think he was any great shakes apart from being a lump of a target man. Thought we overpaid for him at the time.
He’s not a premier league quality striker though in anything other than a lump it team.
Will do the square root of sweet FA at Forest same as Newcastle. The club which may suit him best at the moment is Everton.

Isn't it the case that only six players (or at least was) have scored double figures in four consecutive seasons in the Prem?Shaggy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 7:52 pmAs has been mentioned earlier had played in a team that was built around him. Re: Chris Wood
Here's the thing about Wood. The weakest part of his game was doing the target man stuff in a "lump it" team. His touch and link up with his back to goal was erratic, particularly when he was out of form.Shaggy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 7:52 pmAs has been mentioned earlier had played in a team that was built around him. His ability and willingness to run the channels and ability to occupy defenders as a physical presence and movement and finishing in the box- they were his strengths. And his goal record speaks for itself.
