That's too near for a free kick shot

Post by Bin Ont Turf » Fri Jan 20, 2023 10:34 pm

It's got to be played square for a shot, surely.

Only Messi and Robbie B could do that.

10 pints deep tonight, the Clarets are going up!

No idea how he did that. Could watch it ten times from ten angles and still not know how he did that. Almost defies physics.

His ability at free kicks was one of the reasons we bought him.

That free kick has to be the best I've ever seen from that position.

No idea why their wall split and O’Shea went down. The ball would have passed directly over where he started. Why should I care, gerrinnn.

he looked like he had it in him when he first got on and rattled the bar against Hudds, great goal, sublime talent, and a huge confidence boost for the lad. Brilliant goal tonight.

Sign of genius, making something impossibly difficult look really easy! He is unbelievable at free kicks.

Everybody in the ground said it was too close for a direct strike as no way would anyone get it over the wall and down in time. Everybody in the ground except one little guy was wrong! Stunning tbh and not even sh** defending. Just stunning.

With the benefit of my decades of experience I was just explaining to my wife, “it’s too close, you can’t score from there”. She’s still laughing at me. Welcome to the party Mr Twine.

I am sure the commentator said it was outside the box as his foot was on the line. Am I wrong in thinking that if it is on the line it is in the box?

It's like having Ross Wallace or trippier taking a free kick you just know it's going in.

Such composure in a pressure situation never in doubt-he said he was confident in his interview you could tell in the slow mo highlight in his face ‘this is going in’-he looked more nervous at being overwhelmed at the ft whistle.

I think I've seen two genuinely world class bits of football at Turf Moor this season :
1. Zaroury's beautiful, perfect cross for Barnes' header against the B'stards and now
2. This incredible free kick tonight from Scott Twine
These are heady times to support BFC...WHAT a team we have here atm !!!

If it's on the line it's a penalty. But although the Burnley man (was it Cullen?) was mostly inside the box, it was his back heel that was caught and that was outside.

Maradona scored a different one as it was from an indirect free-kick thus inside the area. Twiney's next challenge. :)

Most Napoli fans consider it to be his greatest goal in their colours.

From zero to hero with one kick in front of a full Turf Moor + a Sky tv audience. He’ll always be a Claret forever now and must be a shoe-in for the next game at Ipswich.

Incredible. I thought it might be squared when Jay Rod spoke to him before he took it. It was too short a distance really.

Remembering his free kick at Huddersfield I had a feeling he would score. I just couldn't see how with every part of the goal covered by our or their players.

Wow!

Got to admire Brownhill's sense of self-belief in his free kick taking abilities but he is absolutely atrocious at them

Thought his brief performance as a whole was outstanding. Loved the session of keep ball in the corner with him and Zaroury and I think Maatsen ? And if he can take free kicks like that on a regular basis then the opposition won’t dare tackle anywhere near the penalty area. I just woke up in Orlando still thinking about that Fk.
