Let go far too early
He came back with Gilingham and took us apart
A proper winger and great to watch.

People say he’d walk into this current team. I have my doubts…he’s getting on a bit now

Can’t believe it. 70? Seems like only yesterday. Think he scored a winner at Ewood one day if memory serves (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong). Wonderful player. Not quite Taffy but definitely up there.

Re: Terry Cochrane is 70
I'll never forget his winning strike at Ewood all those years ago. We were battered that day and still won thanks to him
Happy Birthday.
ps: I'm 70 this year as well

Very stylish winger, first time I remember lots of stopovers. Never forget 'that' goal at Ewood. Hard to think he is 70.

Heard the name and any Claret who's bagged a winner at Ewood has to be in the legends category.

Re: Terry Cochrane is 70
The first player I ever saw do stepovers and was a big favourite of mine I was absolutely gutted when we sold him to Boro.
I was at Ewood the day he scored that brilliant winner at the other end (such a shame there is no video of that goal) and also remember him scoring a great overhead kick for Boro on Match of the Day …at the Vetch Fiekd I think.
Didn’t he also score a winner for Northern Ireland v England at Wembley ?

Best thing about the Ewood winner was it was scored at the Blackburn end AKA Scotty Arfield.

Re: Terry Cochrane is 70
I remember when one particular second half started. Terry got the ball and started belting down the wing in the wrong direction: after about 30 yards, everyone shouted at him and he turned and he spun round and dribbled back in the right direction, beating lots of players. Great guy.
Cochrane on the right and Morley on the left!

Re: Terry Cochrane is 70
One of my favourite players from that ‘slowly heading to the third tier’ era. Always excited to see him on MOTD playing for Boro after he left. Although the most exciting thing about Terry Cochrane was that my uncle bought a car off him and I was allowed to sit in the seat that his bum cheeks had once graced!
Re: Terry Cochrane is 70
And I think I’m right in saying that he was the last player to score a winner against Rovers until Danny Ings. There’s no tv footage of the goal so it’s one of those that only lives in the memory. My memory of it is that it was a cracker!

Re: Terry Cochrane is 70
An exciting player ……….from my scrapbook in the attic I’ve got the Burnley Express report was about what was a frisky encounter at Ewood - 8 booked and Brotherston sent off - I remember his screamer of a goal from 25 yards as I was there as a young lad with my dad in The Nuttall street stand roughly in line with where he hit it……….also theres a photo in the paper not long after of his goal against Oldham where the headline was “Muddy Marvellous “ due to the quagmire of a pitch when we won 4-0…………..TC scoring twice……..
70………..blimey…………..but then again, I’m 61 in a weeks time!!!

Re: Terry Cochrane is 70
My memory of him is in an unlikely 2-1 win at Bolton in 1977-78. That was the Division 2 season under Harry Potts when we look very likely to be relegated but we brought in Brian Hall and Steve Kindon returned and they, particularly Kindon, were instrumental in our eventually comfortably staying up.
At Bolton we were still bottom of the table and Bolton were top and I think unbeaten at home. In addition we were without Kindon who was injured - we saw him limping outside the ground. We had no chance. Yet we turned in an excellent display, harrying Bolton all over the pitch. They played quite a modern game, passing it out from the back but we stopped that and they didn't know what to do. Ian Brennan scored two and their's was a late goal. The moment I remember was after Cochrane had made a silly mistake that could have cost us and Jim Thomson practically throttled him in his disgust!
We lost only three more games and ended the season in 11th place. We were finally relegated the following season.

Re: Terry Cochrane is 70
I always remember a managers son telling me they used to struggle getting him on the pitch at times as he'd be listening to or watching the horse racing and if he had a horse in the race it was nightmare .

Read his autobiography 'See You at the Far Post' a year or two ago. He was certainly confident of his ability.

Can’t quite remember but it may have been Bradford City away in the league cup. 2-0 down ,from memory at h/t and the second half was the “Terry Cochrane show”. Think we won 3-2 at the end

3-2, indeed. I was in the open end. After, I got caught up in the City fans and got run by Burnley.

Re: Terry Cochrane is 70
Brian Hall is the answer, the year after Cochrane. Like the 2014 game when Ings scored, we had to come from behind to win.thehistorylecturer67 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 7:43 pmWe beat them home and away the following season 78-79 both 2-1 .. the scorers at Ewood were Tony Morley and Brian Hall - from memory Brian Hall got the second ?
