The Big Match - QPR v Burnley 1974/75

Good game this and a cracking 1-0 away win in front of 19,539 which took us up to 5th in the First Division.
Interestingly, I see from this site's excellent player archive that Colin Morris had made his first team debut the previous Saturday which saw us knocked out of the FA Cup at home to Wimbledon, although he's a player I remember almost nothing about apart from him being very small!
Only 10 first team appearances for the Clarets for Morris but went on to make over 500 appearances for other clubs scoring 124 goals, a very good return from midfield.

I was living in London at the time and was on that game. I remember buying several newspapers every Sunday to read reports of Burnley games. Like today we were not top billing but I was particularly interested in what they would say about Colin Morris who I had seen play for the 1st time and been impressed by his ability. Julie Welch the 1st female football reporter I ever remember while praising him in the Observer struggled to find an adjective to describe his performance. In the finish she described his play as 'Burnleyish' ..to me the greatest compliment she could pay him.

Very good interview with Gerry Francis afterwards. Despite the fact that we were still heading upwards in the league you could see that the underlying position was that these were two sides going in different directions. We were pretty threadbare and lucky to get the result, they looked strong and you could see the basis of the side that finished second the following season.
