Re: Ekdal
He may or may not turn out to be the next VVD (and before anyone starts this is NOT a dig at our former managers), but this is the benefit you get from having a manager with the profile of VK.

Quick......tell VK he needs to select the team based on You Tube video. Never mind wasting time with all that training pitch assessment and in-depth day-to-day player knowledge mallarkey. Sort it out Vincent.

Re: Ekdal
If we put together a compilation of Taylor's best moments in his career so far, we could quite easily make him look a world beater, which of course he isn't, although he's a competent enough defender at this level.
The point being, I wouldn't base any of my opinions on a few clips on YouTube.

Don't know if it's already been commented on but he might be the first player we've ever signed whose name is an anagram of Dalek.

We've seen it already ..no?
He looks a monster scoring with both feet, cheating it down & volleying it past a hapless keeper.

No, that's not how you use the forum these days. You start a thread with a vague statement, othen referring to something on Twitter on Sky Sports News, and then expect everyone else to find out for themselves.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 2:04 amI mean, you could have linked the video for the rest of us!

I love threads like this.
Shows a lack of respect and appreciation to 3 players who have given the club excellent service, then gets all upset when someone replies to him claiming he is being reasonable

Classic UTC thread. Some people seem unable to enjoy a new player without using it as a way to have a dig at previous players who have done very well for us. Very strange behaviour.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 7:52 amI love threads like this.

In fairness it was only because the logic of your original post was so blatantly ridiculous that I felt moved to comment. Apologies if I have offended as this is not my usual style.

Re: Ekdal
Don’t forget Arthur Kaled. Promising midfielder but hugely mutated by years of nuclear war. His two heads were useful on corners though. We sacked him after his spat with Derek Thal in training.

Re: Ekdal
Your comment wasnt remotely reasonable. *Sees a highlights video of a player clearly intended to make them look good* *Declares that from this one video that they are better than a player who has been consistently doing the job for us for years*. Ekdal might be better than Taylor he might also be god awful but your comment is just a tad Naïve

Re: Ekdal
Can someone please, genuinely elaborate on where this disdain for Taylor has come from? Not just you specifically 4midalble, but in general across the board? I honestly cannot think of a mistake he's made this season and think he's been superb either centrally or at full back.
Seen this opinion shared across multiple threads and I'm completely baffled, he's one of the best players we have.

Gives ball away
Looks disinterested
Holds onto ball too long..i breathe a deep breath when he gets the ball and is being pressed

Re: Ekdal
I actually think Bayer will struggle to get in the side soon. I like him a lot, but if Cancelo can get frozen out at City so can Jordan here. The new guys seem really, really promising. A 20 year old will be happy playing 10-15 games in the PL, not sure Ekdal will. I bet it is Ekdal and one other who turn out to be first choice.

Looks disinterested - Nope, not this either.
Holds onto ball too long..i breathe a deep breath when he gets the ball and is being pressed - I agree he too often plays too safe when moving the ball to one of the full backs and can slow down play a touch, but his defending has in the main been excellent this season.

Re: Ekdal
Just on the point of Taylor, I like him and don’t think he’s done a great deal wrong but I do think our new style has shown his limitations.
He’s a bit ponderous on the ball at centre half and nowhere near as dynamic as Maatsen when played at left back.
He’s good, just not as good as other players that we now have.

Re: Ekdal
This is basically my take. I'd add that his ability on the ball limits our build up play a bit, he doesn't make enough progressive passes (forward passes through the lines) or dribble forward much (like Beyer can).arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 3:04 pmJust on the point of Taylor, I like him and don’t think he’s done a great deal wrong but I do think our new style has shown his limitations.

Just checked out his underlying data to see if that was accurate so here it is (image below)... we see that his progressive passes and dribbles ranks quite low (compared to other Championship centre backs). That is even though he's on the ball more than almost all centre backs in the league (passes attempted tells us this).
Also aerials % won is 29th percentile (bottom third) but just not shown on this particular report card.
This isn't to say he isn't good, like arise is saying, just that others suit this system more.
For a comparison, THB is in the 98th percentile for progressive passing, 61st for % headers won and 91st for interceptions.

Re: Ekdal
Deciding that someone is better than someone else off a few YouTube clips is laughable.
Re: Ekdal
Some posters are being harsh on Taylor I feel, fair enough he's more traditionally a left back than the more modern defenders we've recently brought in, bit there is no need to be so critical of him. He's a solid player who has done everything asked of him including playing out of position in a system that's completely new!
