Long shot maybe but wondering if any board members have experience of this and have any thoughts/advice? TIA

Not personally but have a look at Citizens Advice Bureau for Spain (CAB) website or ask for advice on FB. I’ve found them very useful in the recent past

This is what my research has brought up, there's some great information sites out there like upsticks.es and facebook group youtoospain community loads of videos and helpful resources.

Plenty of hoops and paperwork but that's nothing new really, you have to get all your paperwork ducks in a row and firstly apply to the spanish consulate (nearest one is Manchester) to apply and then procedure will take its place. The 2 biggest differences (if you are not at retirement age or beyond) is you need private healthcare (forget the old EHIC card - if at retirement age or above you can apply here for your S1 and go on the spanish healthcare) and because most people "getting on" have 1-2 ailments or previous issues that can be costly - I would estimate around 200 euros per month for a couple of reasonable health. The 2nd major difference is you have to produce "you can afford to live there" - think its 27,000 euros for the 1st adult and 9000 euros for any other members - that can be proved by bank statements, rental income if renting any uk properties, pensions, savings etc etc. The other thing to bear in mind is the 1st visa is for 1 year, on renewal after year 1 your next visa is for a further 2 years BUT at the renewal point you have to prove that you have the 2 years funds at the renewal point. Then after 1st year, 2 years renewal you then apply for another 2 year renewal same terms and AFTER that so after 5 years you can apply for residence. That's the basics for the beginning then there NIE card etc etc but like above the web sites above has loads and loads of info on them

It would be great if you could share any useful info from your research/solicitor.
