Re: REPORT: Late show takes us through in the cup
Fair summary I believe CT, not a classic by any means, however all that matters is we are in the 5th round, and really we should be able to beat a fairly average Fleetwood outfit.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 6:36 pmBurnley v Ipswich report

However memories of Accy and Lincoln remain vivid, so like you I'm taking nothing for granted.
If you believe in fate we are due to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Made the quarters in 1983.
Made the quarters in 2003.
And should make the quarters in 2023.
This season has probably surpassed most fans expectations, but a long cup run would be the icing on a very tasty cake.

Thanks for that, CT, good to get a balanced view of a game with no coverage.
I thought Fosters lay off for Tellas first was deliberate. Purely off the pace on the pass,IMO if he had been shooting it would have been uncontrollable.
Their goal did look like an OG from the video footage I’ve seen.
If it’s not already the goal celebration photo needs adding to the “when you’re smiling” thread. It’s a beauty.

Deffo a pass for me, typical of a player of his class.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 7:37 amThanks for that, CT, good to get a balanced view of a game with no coverage.

Had it been someone like Andy Cooke I’d have thought, poor control

Re: REPORT: Late show takes us through in the cup
The very reasonable lads on the Ipswich fans podcast said that they actually felt a bit relieved when we got the winner. They said that their team had given everything by that point and that there was really only one winner. I have always had a soft spot for Ipswich and they look very well prepared for the Championship should they go up. Their second Xi gave us two very tough games

A win is a win, no injuries thank goodness, minutes for fringe players and another very good performance from the keeper which are all positives.

I think VK without showing it, will see the FA Cup as a real opportunity to show this country how good his team are.Can see him having a strong team for Fleetwood. I can remember under Coyle how well we did in the Cups and still got promoted the season we won v Sheff Utd in the play offs-a semi final over two legs. It helped build real togetherness in that team and I see parallels this season

I can him seeing it as an opportunity to give more time to the squad players again and rest some, what will be fairly well worn, legs from the main XV.
Re: REPORT: Late show takes us through in the cup
A couple things about the game, was sat in BLS and in the first half Kayden Jackson shouted at the linesman to give us something after he correctly gave Burnley a throw in, a few minutes later Jackson committed a foul which prompted the shout of….referee give him something!
I was really impressed with Sone Aluko, had Cork in his pocket, started the move for their goal and was key to stopping our usual pattern of passing. Looked him up today and didn’t realise he’s 33 and the list of clubs he’s been at. Must have seen him play before.

Re: REPORT: Late show takes us through in the cup
Completely agree. Team v Fleetwood will be very similar to team v Ipswich with another strong bench
This cup run has been a great way to keep squad players involved and give them valuable competitive minutes
We've been without Muric, THB, Cork, Benson and Jay recently and have hardly missed a beat because we have around 20 players who are fully match ready

Re: REPORT: Late show takes us through in the cup
We went very strong at Bournemouth but that was away at a Premier League club. The Ipswich games were used to give other players game time. Now in the last 16, will be interesting to see how we view it but I expect there will be changes given the sheer volume of games we have coming up.

Agree with this CT. The Fleetwood game comes at the ‘end’ of what is 4 weeks straight of back to back Sat-Tues games.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 10:13 amWe went very strong at Bournemouth but that was away at a Premier League club. I’d expect a similar ish team to Ipswich away albeit Cork won’t be able to play. Obafemi will be available for that one too.

It’s another ban for Cork isn’t it? Carded in both games against Ipswich.

Glad it's just only me who still values the cup, and given our privileged position in the league why not give it a right go,Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 8:51 amOld-fashioned git myself & still love the FA Cup.

We'll never enjoy a better chance to make the last 8, and then who knows with a favourable draw.
