Re: ARTICLE: McCann debuts for the Brewers
I know he wasn't on the pitch for very long, but am I right in saying he's the only member of the Wembley '09 starting XI who is still playing?

Re: ARTICLE: McCann debuts for the Brewers
At a glance you are probably correct, Jay Rod and Kev McDonald were both on the bench that day, and only Jay got on late in proceedings.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 9:48 amI know he wasn't on the pitch for very long, but am I right in saying he's the only member of the Wembley '09 starting XI who is still playing?

Yes, from starting line up only McCann still plays. For Sheff Utd there is Kyle Walker (Man City), Kyle Naughton (Swansea), Stephen Quinn (Mansfield) and Greg Halford (Hashtag United).fidelcastro wrote: ↑Thu Feb 09, 2023 9:48 amI know he wasn't on the pitch for very long, but am I right in saying he's the only member of the Wembley '09 starting XI who is still playing?

Best wishes to him. A career ruined by the assault by Turner of Sunderland. Should have been a straight red and I can’t remember if he even got booked.
Re: ARTICLE: McCann debuts for the Brewers
He was playing really well then, too. Blossomed in the Prem and then destroyed.

Shame he got injured when he did. We'll never know whether the promise he was showing would have resulted in him becoming a PL mainstay but I suspect he would have done.

I loved watching Chris McCann during his time here. Sad how it ended with strings of injuries but he was a class player.

Re: ARTICLE: McCann debuts for the Brewers
Would have loved seeing him in his peak alongside Stephen DeFour. Considering the length of his main injury he has done incredible to be still be playing at 35. He impressed all managers -Coyle, Cotterill, Howe (made him captain) and Dyche while here which says a lot about him
Re: ARTICLE: McCann debuts for the Brewers
Well I never knew he was still playing I would of said he’s at least 40-did well for us on the whole good player.

In the home game against Everton, which was the home game prior to the injury against Sunderland, he was magnificent. Just 22 and looked set for a superb career.

Re: ARTICLE: McCann debuts for the Brewers
I remember Chris scoring an injury time winner v Ipswich. Ipswich played their usual ,boot the opposition off the park and a late header from Chris won it.
