Burt Bacharach RIP

Post by ClaretTony » Thu Feb 09, 2023 2:56 pm

Probably unknown to a lot of younger posters but a hugely key figure in the world of music at one time.

He’s passed away today aged 94.

Quite sad to hear this, wrote songs for many artistes,
Dionne Warwick and lots of others.
And yes, a big musical figure, highly regarded.
RIP

The number of leading artists who chose to work with Bacharach says it all. The sixties and seventies would have been a very different place musically had Burt not been part of it. RIP and thanks Burt Bacharach.

A globally known songwriter, often in collaboration, as cited above. A rich talent.

Not a bad innings. Very influential in the music industry - we will probably not see the
likes of him again.

RIP Burt.

Wow! Another music great gone! The album which Elvis Costello did with Burt Bacharach - Painted From Memory - is one of my favourite albums. Coincidentally, I think they're about to release an expanded box-set version of the album.

We had a guy in the Maypole Inn playing guitar the other Saturday Night doing 60's 70's music (very good he was too).

Our 22 yr old Grandson was with us, he had popped over for the weekend to take us out to dinner.

The Guitarist played "I'm a believer" and my Grandson was singing along with everyone, when asked how he knew all the words he said he knew that song because of Shrek 😉...

Sad news. Very much part of my formative years. Mentioned earlier but I will repeat it and say the man was a genius. Be listening to Bacharach later on. What a talent!

Just found out. You can only thing of Lennon and McCartney any Jagger and Richards who've pumped out so many great songs. But Bacharach and David WERE American popular music for me. "Popular" can be pejorative but not here.

RIP Mr Bacharach.

I never realised Burt Bacharach had worked with so many artists, one heck of a career that straddled the likes of Dietrich and Sinatra right up to his collaborations with Adele and even Dr Dre.

An incredible song writing legacy that he's left for future generations to enjoy.

Saw him live on stage in London 2019 ,so he'd be in his late '80's,absolutely amazing gig, with Joss Stone singing, a true legend who we'll never see the likes of again.

Dick Van Dyke was the first to record this song, but I much prefer this version
