Re: Player of the Season - so far?
He’s had a few weeks out of the side but it’s still Jack Cork for me. We are a much better side (generally) when he’s in it.

Beyer.
5 nominations already and you could make a good argument for all of them. Shows what a season we've had

Re: Player of the Season - so far?
One who hasn't been mentioned yet Benson, he started slowly and after the Watford game there were fears he wouldn't be up to the physical demands this league presents, how wrong that concern proved to be.

Re: Player of the Season - so far?
In terms of outright class it's Beyer for me. Cork and Cullen have been so important, but since Beyer came into the side as a starter we've been ruthless. Seems really harsh on Charlie Taylor to say that because he's been almost perfect when he's been asked to play CB, looks every bit the centre half, and would be most other team's best centre back or left back, but Beyer is our Van Dijk. The attacking players have all had overlapping periods of immense form, Cork and Cullen have been unbelievably consistent in their unflashy roles in the team, Beyer is a combination of those two themes, consistency and stand-out performances.

Surely Maatsen’s worthy of a mention as well…

Interesting that the guys at the top of the goal scoring charts not getting a mention; honourable mention to Zaroury

There isn't one. Everyone has been excellent at some stage and not quite hit those heights at others. It's a team game and this is a proper team. That's why we're miles ahead.

1. Cullen
=2. Beyer
=2. Cork
4. Tella
5. Benson
6. Muric
7. Maatsen
Can’t call an outright second after Cullen, so have put Beyer/Cork as =2. Tella/Benson just narrowly ahead of Muric because goals win games but in terms of influence to how we play I’d say Muric has been more important. So little between the above 7 it’s hard to call, which is exactly why we’re top of the league… we’re top of the league…

This, they've all had good spells, people would have said THB, Brownhill and Jay at the start.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 10:57 pmThere isn't one. Tough one -
Cullen, Cork & Beyer for consistency, Benson for being a match winner/game changer, Tella for being a consistent goal scorer.
Probably go with Beyer

Re: Player of the Season - so far?
For me it’s Cork or Cullen. There’s a big difference in our play when one (or both) are not on the field.
If Connor had played from the start of the season the way he’d played post-Word Cup he’d be in with a shout.

Re: Player of the Season - so far?
I think due to his ultra consistency and the fact he has played almost every game that I’d possibly go with Josh Cullen. He’s been magnificent. Beyer and Cork just behind him.
Benson would be in this conversation if he hadn’t got injured, for sure.

It will be interesting to see the PFA Team of the Season, we could easily have 5 or 6.
Re: Player of the Season - so far?
Think I’d have a top 5 based on consistency / match winning performances then just pick one out of a hat.
Cork, Cullen, Beyer, THB and Benson.

Re: Player of the Season - so far?
Tella for me by quite a way . His goals are class and he’s dangerous whenever he’s in deep possession . While many are worthy without his goals and general mischief we may be a lot closer to the pack IMO

Re: Player of the Season - so far?
Extremely difficult as each game it's a different "hero" and then someone who is really consistently shining seems to get unluckily injured (e. g. Benson/Beyer) Atm I'd have to say Cullen who's been quietly outstanding pretty much every game and pray that having said that he doesn't now succumb to the injury jinx.

Cullen for me-he is the glue in the meantime, but I have to say followed closely Beyer and Tella (who has helped gain us a huge amount of points)

We don't seem to have many players in team of the weeks unless they have scored.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 8:16 amIt will be interesting to see the PFA Team of the Season, we could easily have 5 or 6.
Not sure our players stand out that much, more of the whole team together stand out.

Re: Player of the Season - so far?
You could make viable shouts for any of Cork, Cullen, Beyer or Tella, and even slightly lesser viable shouts for a a good few others, but they are the four for me. If forced, Cullen - outstanding very first game against Hudds which set the tone, man of the match against Rovers, and the crucial fulcrum of this team who holds it all together.
Re: Player of the Season - so far?
Beyer without a doubt he's in a league of his own on this one.
Then the group below would be Cullen, Zaroury, Benson, possibly Cork and Barnes, maybe even Maatsen

Beyer. Proper silky on the ball and a strong defender as well. Love to see him next season.

Re: Player of the Season - so far?
Tough one.
On quantity of consistent performances in making the team work, Cullen or Brownhill.
On quality of performances and average performances across games played, Beyer. Not quite played enough games or he'd walk this for me.
On ability to impact and decide a game, Benson. Never known a super sub like him
