Bob Lord Terracing?
Re: Bob Lord Terracing?
I stood on the Longside before it was covered. I think the original covering of the Longside would have been in the early 50"s

Brilliant post, Colburn....Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 8:03 pmI'm the same. My brother remembers all the games he went to, he started going a few years before me. I must have been 4 or 5 when I first went on. Small enough to be carried out of the ground on my Dads shoulders.
Who we played I don't have a clue, what stuck with me was the crowds and the atmosphere.
I recall we'd enter the ground from under the old CFS, walk around onto the longside. The fences to the front had gone, but the turnstiles still remained, and kids my size used to hustle to climb on them for a better view.
I was fortunate to go to the Casino regular, and just like the Longside, unless you've been there it's just impossible to convey to anyone else what it was like to be there and live it. Long Live The Longside.
Happy days
That FA Cup tie in '55/'56 against Chelsea is my first recollection, from a form in front of he wall of the Enclosure.......but there must have been league games before that.......If only I could still ask my Dad ?......He saw the 30 games undefeated in '20/'21.

Burnley 0 Arsenal 1 in August 1950 was my first game at the tender age of 6. Christ come August 73 years a Claret-Dad wherever you are "what have you inflicted on me and me on my sons and my grandchildren who live the other end of the country?" Certainly nurture not nature
Googled Turf Moor and fascinating info re Longside which was covered in 1954 planning for it was done in 1938 but the war stopped it happening
In 1891, another local football team, Burnley Union Star, disbanded and abandoned their ground, which included a grandstand. Burnley bought the stand and moved it to the north side of Turf Moor, where it became known as the Stars Stand.[4]
The Stars Stand was demolished in 1898 and replaced by a larger grandstand, which continued to be referred to as the Stars Stand by the supporters.
The Stars Stand was extended in 1909 with new turnstiles and barricades erected in preparation for the FA Cup quarter-final game against reigning Football League champions Manchester United. In 1913, the Burnley directors decided to demolish the Stars Stand for a second time and opted instead to expand the uncovered embankment.

Re: Bob Lord Terracing?
To the best of my knowledge the only time I saw a game from the enclosure was a cup tie vs Everton, February '62, won 3-1. Down 0-1 at half time, Miller equalised shortly after the restart with a bomb from outside the box. I think Connelly and Robson scored the others. No idea why I remember the details so vividly, can't remember what I had for dinner yesterday

Is that ref related to Chris Wood?
Re: Bob Lord Terracing?
In the early 60s, Bob Lord was planning a 17,000 seater stand covering the combined Brunshaw Road and Bee Hole end. Burnley Council had also given planning permission to erect a cantilever stand along Brunshaw Road.

Re: Bob Lord Terracing?
When I first went to TM in 1959 and stood on the Longside everything seemed to be painted green and, apart from an odd scarf and rattle, there was little claret and blue on display except on the players’ shirts. Fences, turnstiles, railings and stands were all green, had Bob Lord got a job lot of green paint somewhere?
Excellent photo of Bob by the way on this thread.

As I mentioned already I attended the 6th round FA Cup tie at home to Blackburn two years earlier still.aged only 7. Imagine my shock and disappointment when two years later and ' a big boy' now my mum said there was no way I was going to the game v Everton. Their fans had a very bad reputation at the time and so I spent that afternoon at home trying to find out what was happening at Turf Moor from the very limited sources available there were then.exilecanada wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 8:40 pmTo the best of my knowledge the only time I saw a game from the enclosure was a cup tie vs Everton, February '62, won 3-1. My first first team match was the week before the cuptie also against Everton. As an 8yo I was also not allowed to go for the same reason as you SS. Not surprised really as the Cricket Field End in the league match became a mass punch up in the second half the likes of which I've never seen since. Police leave was cancelled for the cuptie and I seem to remember there wasn't much trouble. I think the cup gate was 54000 the last time there was over 50000 at Turf Moor. I'm sure I'll get shot down in flames if I'm wrongSilkyskills1 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 21, 2023 10:52 amAs I mentioned already I attended the 6th round FA Cup tie at home to Blackburn two years earlier still.aged only 7. I'm afraid your memory is playing tricks. We did play Everton in the league the previous week but that was at Goodison and was a 2-2 draw. 14000 Everton fans came to the Turf for the FA Cup tie and the police reported no trouble.Petersa wrote: ↑Tue Feb 21, 2023 1:37 pmMy first first team match was the week before the cuptie also against Everton. Re: Bob Lord Terracing?
There's a classic photograph taken from the Beehole End of Everton fans on the roof of the Longside during the FA Cup tie. Precarious to say the least as we are all aware of the tragic event that happened there 30 years later.
Re: Bob Lord Terracing?
I only rarely went in th'enclosure after I started going on the Turf in 1963. Usually stood behind the CF goal with my dad. In fact the only game I definitely recall watching from the enclosure was the FA Youth Cup tie against Yorkshire Amateur in 1967/8, the season we won the trophy. We won 7-1 and I can still remember one of the Yorkshire lads taking a throw in from right in front of me.

Some good old pix on here, not seen the one of the model before. Recall going in the BrunshawcRoad stand twice in the late 60s with my dad - maybe he got comps as he hated sitting down. Remember being on front row level with Beehole 18 yard line, one vs WBA maybe a 5-1 win and the other vs B'Pool when they had Tony Waiters in goal. Maybe my imagination but seem to think seats were padded - or then again maybe dad took a cushion along

Deaf, blind or black for example.
Re: Bob Lord Terracing?
We don’t need to stand thank you. We pay a little bit more to sit in comfort. We are better protected from the elements and most importantly, away from the riff raff that think it’s hilarious to take the p!ss out of Bob Lorders.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 1:12 pmMost of the people who go in the BL are not safe to stand at the best of times! My mistake, I thought we were talking about the terracing at the front of the long side that was sectioned off for younger fans, so that they could see the game easier. At 24 years old, obviously you weren't.

I’ve got Willie Morgan for the 7, Ralphy on 6yd line, Andy Lochheads’ shiny pate at the edge of the pen area, Bomber Harris taken the corner. Which would leave Willie Irvine at the far side of area.
