Films which disappointed you
As it says movies which you heard a lot of hype about but which didn't live up to expectations.
A couple I watched recently which weren't that great.
Dune- the Frank Herbert novel brought to screen, what a waste of 2 plus hours that was, plot which made no sense, and even the set-piece scenes near the end were poor.
Pulp Fiction- might be controversial but for all the good performances and sets the way the story jumped confused me.

The Revenant - just a guy poncing around in a bear skin for no obvious reason
The Godfather - I've tried desperately to like this, even watched it 3 times to make sure I wasn't missing something. Just found it terribly boring.
Any of the Star Wars films - techno ********

Blazing Saddles.
I didn't see it when it immediately came out but friends (I had some then) told me it was my sense of humour - cowboy on horse in desert with music playing then turns a corner and there's Count Basie's Orchestra playing; farting round the campsite after eating beans..... Perhaps I anticipated too much but when I finally got to see it at the cinema it was OK but no more. However I still enjoy an occasional viewing now. I suppose it's a typical Mel Brookes comedy - lots of good ideas but also containing some weak material.

Dunkirk, had the perfect chance to be great due to the real life story of Dunkirk but the film was terrible.

Brief Encounter.
Never been the same since they edited out the ending where the space ship comes down to earth.

Not a film fan really. Anything that lasts more than an hour and I tend to lose concentration. I appreciate there are people on here who are officianados of the silver screen but apart from Psycho and Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid nothing else has had any real impact.

In regards to dune, apparently it all makes sense with the sequel but I didn't really think much of it either tbh.
With Pulp Fiction you need to watch it a couple of times to grasp it properly.
For me -
La La Land - so much hype, lauded by the critics as the best musical for years.....it was average at best and that's being kind.
Scott Pilgrim - utter toss

My kids saw Prometheus, Alien resurrection etc before they actually saw Aliens
Instead of seeing the greatest action/sci fi movie of all time, they saw something that has been ruined by the sequels they had already seen

Another vote for the godfather.
I don’t know what I’m missing, but it’s a long, boring drag. And I like a lot of old, long, slow-burn films.

The Irishman, star cast, sounded great, way too long and not that easy to follow
The Grey, hate films with bad endings and that one is awful

Wolf of Wall Street - who’d have thought you could make a film featuring a load of drugs so dull? Can’t remember a film more badly in need of an editor.
Re: Films which disappointed you
Lost in Translation, certainly was for me. Even the soundtrack wasn't enough to save it.

Absolutely agree the Godfather.
I can't help but think it spawned a generation of wannabe gangsters too.

The Godfather???????
Anyone who does not agree that it is one of the greatest films ever made, in the history of ever, is just wrong and should be banned from this board.
Fact.

It's all about opinions, so I'm not having a pop at anyone here, but The Godfather is one of the best films ever made.

Re: Films which disappointed you
Citizen Kane is another one. Tried it once, decidedly below average
Re: Films which disappointed you
Blue Velvet… maybe it was watching it with a true fan who afterwards spent 30 mins explaining the bits I hated and why they were genius.
Re: Films which disappointed you
Children of Men - amazing premise and seems to be generally highly regarded, but probably one of the worst films I've ever seen.

Dune needed to be watched at the cinema to be fully appreciated - the music makes the film and you just can't get that sound on a home system.
Slating Pulp Fiction is just daft.

Hope Springs.
I had high expectations of a film starring Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones.
They were quickly dashed.

Another vote for The Godfather. While it’s a good film per se the genre was so massively improved ( often with the same actors used by FFC) by Scorsese it leaves this simply as a “ decent film”

It really all is just a matter of opinion.
I thought both The Godfather and Pulp Fiction were excellent.

Re: Films which disappointed you
Pulp Fiction is one of the best films ever. I gave my Dad (sapper driver in WW2)the dvd, I could tell he enjoyed it but he said it was a' bit far fetched'.
The Godfather films are excellent.
Wizard of Oz was mind blowing as a child.
Dissapointments:
Long time ago but - Death Race 2000.
Casino Royale.
Dark Night/ Rises/Begins/.
The Matrix.
Avatar - three hours that got worse and worse.
Wolf of Wall Street - Well made but unengrossing .
Dunkirk - Crap.
Joker - Pound shop Taxi Driver.
The Big Lebowski. Meh.
Legend (Krays).
