Vincent Kompany
Just how long will we be able to keep him? I only ask as I’ve just left a saleroom where the staff are all predominantly Southampton and Chelsea fans - all as miserable as sin at the moment, as you can imagine - and they’re all of the opinion that ‘he won’t be with you for long’. In fact one was of the opinion that he would jump at the chance of managing their teams when the present incumbents are sacked.

I think he has a lot more class than that.

Re: Vincent Kompany
He'd be daft considering Southampton with their league position & Chelsea wouldn't consider him, the acid test will be next season & they'll really start to take notice of him if he starts to do well. We have nothing to worry about with him leaving in the immediate short term he hasn't done enough yet maybe never will.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Thu Feb 23, 2023 4:20 pmJust how long will we be able to keep him? Re: Vincent Kompany
I think it's widely accepted that his ambition is the City job. I don't see a relegation-threatened Southampton as a route into that. Chelsea's expectations and lack of patience would probably rule them out too.

Re: Vincent Kompany
Company will only go to a top 6 side. And potentially rule UTd out of that. So Chelsea. Arsenal . City , liverpool , spurs maybe.
I think he’ll have a lot of power at burnley as dyche did , he enjoys clearly working with a young squad, so i think we have him for at least 2 years more. I also think he’s actually someone who also believes in a contract. He’s young in no rush. Challenge will be when he feels he’s taken burnley as far as he can. Thats when VK will be interested in the next project

Re: Vincent Kompany
We're step one in English football for him.
A mid table club would be the next step, unless he makes us a regular mid table club with good cup runs and forays into Europe, then he's gained some experience that City could be looking for, in fact it could make him a more attractive proposition for them.
Lampard going from Derby to Chelsea was an anomaly, that won't happen again anytime soon.
Kompany may well have ambitions to be a future City manager, but it won't happen if he jobs to a PL club that's a mess or constantly dossing around the bottom of the PL

Re: Vincent Kompany
VK isn't daft he'll be well aware he's got to prove himself at Burnley in the PL, do that and keep us playing attractive football while sitting mid-table or higher then bigger clubs will become interested.
In managerial terms Kompany is still incredibly youthful and time is on his side to demonstrate his skills, I believe this is only his 3rd full season and for all the plaudits he's rightly receiving he's still learning himself.
Absolutely no reason we can't retain him until 2025 when his present contract is up.

Re: Vincent Kompany
Not quite but I’m relishing the situation. When we last got promoted, I had comments such as ‘I think that you’ll stay up for four seasons’. ‘Oh?’. ‘Yes. Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer’. etc. etc.
Now I can refer to Chelsea as a mediocre mid table team and say to the Southampton fans, ‘You’re going down, we’re going up ‘.

Re: Vincent Kompany
4-5 year deal with us, he'll not be going anywhere anytime soon, there is no need for him to go a lower PL team as he will be with one already, he'll wait for City or go abroad before managing a Chelsea

Re: Vincent Kompany
He'll stay in the North West for his family. Add Leeds on the M62 which will probably be similar travel time and Vinnie has a big enough pool of clubs to choose from. Up to now he's just done City and Burnley. Maybe he values stability.

Re: Vincent Kompany
What is clear is that many players with a superb playing record do not make good football managers.
VK is doing really well, I suggest he has experience and charisma but more important intelligence. He is not a great pretender he has vision and is building wonderful partnerships with his team, the club and with us all.
He will determine his own future, no amount of speculation or inducements will alter his destiny.

Re: Vincent Kompany
The thing with VK is that he already has more money than he can really spend. I think, but stand to be corrected, that he was on north of 10 million per year at Man City. Being as wealthy as he is buys choice tbh. He has selected a club that really gives a manager time to succeed rather than a car crash type of club (like a Watford for example). I think his next move is Man City and so the longer that door remains shut the better, hopefully a few years.

Re: Vincent Kompany
Southampton. A seriously relegation threatened nothing club.
Burnley. A similar club who will definitely be playing in the PL next season.
Why would he make that swap?

Re: Vincent Kompany
I think we'll hang onto him a bit longer if we stop Phil Bird starting off the questions in the press conferences. I'm detecting a touch of irritation from VK when answering some of the ridiculous questions Birdy throws at him.

Re: Vincent Kompany
I can tell I’m going to find these threads really tedious
Nobody can predict the future so let’s just enjoy the present and stop all this talk about when he’ll move on.
Giving him control of the football side of the club and helping him make the signings he wants will give us the best possible chance of retaining him.
It’s also hugely overlooked that prior to Burnley he’d spent his entire career at Anderlecht and City. He chose us as his third club, so maybe with good tenure at his other clubs he’s a loyal fella? Who knows? Let’s just enjoy the ride.

Its as bad as those that start a thread asking what the valuation is on one of our players after a handful of gamesSteve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 9:14 amJust enjoy it while he’s here and stop worrying about when he might leave.
Although I guess that is the business model, I just don't think like that.

Re: Vincent Kompany
Can see him being in demand in the summer
Course, he is bound to go somewhere better at some stage, but I suspect we will get another season out of him
If we do well in that, then he's gone for sure (simply because it would be one hell of an achievement and much bigger clubs are very likely to have vacancies)
