My first Burnley game ....
I'm sure this must have been done before, but here goes ....
West Ham ( A ) 23/8/1975 - Lost 3-2 ... ( James, Noble )
First game on the Turf, Notts County 2/9/1978 - Won 2-1 ( Noble, Brennan )

Re: My first Burnley game ....
Burnley 4 Chelsea 4 11th March 1961. We were fined for fielding a weakened team in a week leading up to the European Cup. A certain Jimmy Greaves scored an 87th minute equaliser for Chelsea. And what a ride it has been since. My wife always says I can't remember what happened last week but can remember Burnley's results from 40 years ago. And she's right!!

Taken on by my uncle David, my parents aren't sport fan's so I had to wait a few year's before he was allowed to take me on.

Every sympathy on the memory issue, I can remember the entire British Lions team from the 1974 Tests v South Africa, but ask me what I was doing last Tuesday, then without resorting to my diary, I haven't a " Scooby " ...

Burnley v Leeds towards the end of the 82/83 season. I'd started going on games the season before but I missed the home game against Burnley earlier in the season so this ended up being my first away game and first Burnley game as well.
Can't remember the score but I'm sure we went back to Leeds with the win

West Ham at Turf Moor, August 1959 took the lead by Connelly but lost 1-3 to a Hammers side possibly including Cantwell, Woosnam and Bond. Hooked since then.
Mondsley was at 1961 Chelsea game too, probably travelled on same coach as you from Littleborough.

Is there any reason you went to an away game in London, before waiting 3 years to go on the Turf?Clarets4me wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 9:42 amI'm sure this must have been done before, but here goes ....

I can't imagine West Ham away in the 70s was the first choice for parents taking kids on?

1983 Millwall at home Vince Overson scored (who my dad had took me on to watch) in a 1-1 draw.

Ipswich (A) 73/74. L 2-3. Great game. Taffy scored a brilliant solo goal to pull it back to 1-2 and Doug Collins got the second to set up a tense finish but we couldn’t quite make it. Took us a while after that before we won at Ipswich!

Re: My first Burnley game ....
My memory is very patchy. Can’t remember the year but would’ve been early 2000s. I seem to recall playing Watford at home and winning 2-0(?). I remember for the entertainment they had two inflatable wrestlers fighting on the pitch either pre-game or half time, or something like that.

West Ham 0 Burnley 1. I was on holiday at relatives and for my birthday my uncle bought my dad, my brother and myself a ticket in the West Ham stand. Even though I was 4 at the time we nearly got filled in when Colin Waldron scored the winner. I think it was October 1973. I was hooked ever since

Afraid not Clegg Hall. As I was only 6 at the time my Dad thought the ten past one Ribble was a better option thus avoiding Ellen Smith's or the ruffians on YellowayCleggHall wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 10:05 amWest Ham at Turf Moor, August 1959 took the lead by Connelly but lost 1-3 to a Hammers side possibly including Cantwell, Woosnam and Bond. Beat Sheffield Utd 2-0 at the Turf Oct 23 , 1965, with Bomber and big Andy netting. Had been pestering my dad to take me to matches with him for ages, and he finally took me for a birthday treat. - still have the scarf he gave me that day.
