Bring on City
Re: Bring on City
Last night I felt gutted when the draw was made. But now I'm looking at it like this:
1. Likely to go up as champions
2. Only got knocked out of the League Cup away at Old Trafford after matching them on possession and chances.
3. Got to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup before being drawn away to City
I think so long as we make a good account of ourselves, then it's been a bloody good season.

Re: Bring on City
I was looking at flights to London before our game last night and then we drew City out of the hat .
Still have to be positive as it's 11 v 11 just need to the semi final to be on a Saturday as flights work out really well from the West of Ireland ..

Re: Bring on City
Fair comment, and in July we'd surely have settled for winning the Championship, making the last 16 of the League Cup, and the last 8 of the FA Cup.HiThere wrote: ↑Thu Mar 02, 2023 9:06 amLast night I felt gutted when the draw was made. But now I'm looking at it like this:

Although I was equally naffed off last night the one advantage of getting City is we have nothing to lose and can hopefully play without fear.
Re: Bring on City
Another thing. I'd rather play them now than at Wembley. I don't fancy 30,000 Burnley fans going to Wembley knowing it's unlikely we'll win. It would be a bit of a strange feeling. At least this way we know to get to Wembley we have to beat the best team in the competition and arguably the world.
Re: Bring on City
B0ll0cks to it, the Etihad miracle is on, we're going to beat one of the best teams on earth in their own back yard, in front of a worldwide audience, get to Wembley and have a massive party.

Charlie Taylor didn’t sound like he was ‘buzzing for it’ in his interview last night.

That's the spirit, of course we can beat them it's a one off match which these young players should be looking forward to not like the Dyche day's parking the bus .
Re: Bring on City
Haha - saw that, but tbf he added saying 'i've had quite a few bad experiences there' so I guess more personal for him.hoskinsgoalatswansea wrote: ↑Thu Mar 02, 2023 9:27 amCharlie Taylor didn’t sound like he was ‘buzzing for it’ in his interview last night.
Ben Mee went back and won this season, while Tarky took a point.

Re: Bring on City
I thought the draw rather deflating after managing to eventually win last night. We have beaten City, when Boyd scored that cracker pas Hart after a weak headed clearance from one Vicent Kompany. Some time ago though that. Pity United and City weren't drawn against each other.

Re: Bring on City
It’s downright unfortunate to face them but there are a few positives.
Firstly, they will be playing a team that is used to not losing. In fact they have lost more games this season than us.
Secondly, we have a manager that knows more about them than pretty much anyone else.
Thirdly, they have bigger fish to fry trying to overhaul Arsenal and win the Champions League.

Re: Bring on City
It’s a shame, but better than Fulham away, Brighton away (both due to travel) and probably better than Blades or Rovers away which if we lost would really put a dampener on our season and threaten to distract our title charge. Lose to City, well, it’s losing to City. Probably the best side in the world, just one that has had a few unusually wobbly games this season.
Some of us were jesting last night about it being rigged by Shearer, so amusing to see some posters thinking others meant it (I’m sure nobody really thought that). But our luck is unbelievable - we have now drawn City away in 3 of our last 13 FA Cup draws. I could work out the odds on that but it will be over 1,000/1.
Ultimately though, in the cold light of day, it isn’t our day, it will be Vinny’s day. A special day. Due reward for the amazing experience he has given us, our best ever season in the league in probability. So I’m parking my disappointment and thinking, this one’s for him

Put it this way, if we can win this one, we can certainly win the cup

Excellent cup run really.
Good money earner away at the Etihad.
Had good returns from the Carabou cup as well.
Bloody good season...both on and off the pitch...best in a long time.

Nathan Jones somehow conspired to get a win against them, so if he can, VK sure well can.

Re: Bring on City
My thoughts in a nutshell really. If, IF, we are to make some history this season by winning the FA Cup - forget getting to a Wembley semi final as being some kind of big prize as playing there should be reserved for the final, and who the hell ever remembers the runners up were anyway apart from fans of the losing team and pub quiz players?!?Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 02, 2023 9:01 amTreat it as a bonus to a great season
Yeah, it would be have been nice to have a home tie, but that is the cup
Just lets enjoy it
(I'm far more positive now than I was in the car leaving Burnley last night, when I swore a lot on finding out it was City (A)
If we go out to City then it's no big deal, it's hardly all we have to play for this season is it? And IF we do beat City, however unlikely our record there might suggest, then we could really seriously start to think about winning the thing and making some genuine history.

The great 72/73 side lost to Liverpool (eventual champions) in a third round replay.
It will be really interesting to see Man City play the ‘Man City of the Championship’.

Re: Bring on City
Looking forward to it after sleeping on it. Massive test as we play one of the best in the world, but I am sure we will not get rolled over. We need to take inspiration from Grimbsy, Sheff Utd and even Rovers for what they did to mightier cup opposition, and to some degree Fleetwood last night
Re: Bring on City
That's how I'm seeing it. There's no pressure on us to win as we don't expect to. If we can give them a game and have a lot more possession than we normally have against them and creating chances then we can beat anybody in the Premier League next season and have nothing to fear.Culmclaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 02, 2023 3:20 pmIt will be really interesting to see Man City play the ‘Man City of the Championship’.

Re: Bring on City
fully understand that but for me a draw against one of the best is what the FA Cup is about. On the plus side it will give Kompany the opportunity to see the issues we will have next season (midfield) and see how much of a re-work is needed. If they are going to spank us I'd rather them do it in the QF than at Wembley (i don't think they will spank us tbh)

Re: Bring on City
Just been on https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ looking at some train fares, and noticed a banner advising of proposed industrial action that weekend
"Industrial action to affect services on 16, 18, 30 March and 1 April – more information coming soon"
with UTD drawn at home as well, let's hope our game is moved to Sunday

Re: Bring on City
Cant see the police wanting both City and United at home on the same day, and United play on the Thursday prior to that weekend so wont play on the Saturday.
Re: Bring on City
City got knocked out of the league cup by Southampton...SOUTHAMPTON! and didn't have a shot on target in that game. They're still one of the best teams around but they're not the unstoppable force they were two or three years ago. Dropped silly points all season long. They look more beatable now than in previous seasons, and we look more like winners than we did in previous seasons, albeit in a lower division, but I reckon our first choice XI could give any PL team a game. Then you factor in their squad rotation, their overall focus in this comp in contrast to their European and PL considerations, factors both of which can militate against City being the best version of themselves in the way these factors militated against us being the best version of ourselves against Fleetwood...it's not the easiest draw we could have got, but it's not totally impossible either.

Re: Bring on City
A free hit... what exactly is that?
To not to turn and try to be competitive in a game because you've already resigned yourself to losing?
I kind of understand that level of underthinking in the league (pathetic as it may be) but a "FREE HIT" in the cup? That's called "going out of the cup" isn't it? How/why is that a "free hit" ?
Please follow the dinosaur to Everton, shut the door on your way out.

Re: Bring on City
Three league games between now and then we could have played ourselves into an even stronger league position by the time we go to the Etihad
Completely different situation and mindset from recent visits
City will still be going head to head with Arsenal for the title and at the business end of the CL
Could be the ideal time to play them

Re: Bring on City
I’ve been thinking of it like this… beat them (however we can) and we then have the most realistic chance of winning the bloody cup for the first time in ages! I don’t fear any of the other clubs in this other than the red half of Manchester who we gave a good account of ourselves against in the League cup

I can see it now........
THE FA CUP FINAL
22-23 SEASON
BURNLEY 1 V MANCHESTER UNITED 0
Scorer for Burnley
Ashley Barnes 33rd min penalty
we can all but dream, but who said Wigan Athletic would beat Man City 1-0 a few years back in the Cup Final, WE CAN BEAT CITY, then on to WEMBLEY,

Lets not forget that we beat them , at their place, in a Cup game when we won the Charity Shield. I can quite see history repeating itself.Colin Waldron scored the only goal .

Entire upper tier of South Stand
Blocks 212 - 219 of middle tier being given to us
Confirmed on City website
Looks like £25 a ticket
So 8/9k minimum
Back em to the hilt and see what happens!
