Problem with the iPhone ‘Mail’ app
Problem with the iPhone ‘Mail’ app
Has anyone one else noticed that the iPhone ‘Mail’ app can (over time) take up a lot of storage space on your iPhone? It’s possible to offload the app and reinstall it but this doesn’t alter the ‘Documents and data’ which seems to be the problem part of the app.
Any suggestions for removing/resetting the documents and data from the app?

Re: Problem with the iPhone ‘Mail’ app
I had this problem, never found a solution so my next phone was a Samsung. No problema with that..
Re: Problem with the iPhone ‘Mail’ app
Deleting your emails will reduce the amount of storage you're using on your phone. If you're configuring your email app using IMAP settings it will automatically download all your emails again if you simply reinstall the app. Best thing to do is log into your email webmail on a browser and delete any unnecessary emails so fewer are re-downloaded.
Sadly it's one of many reasons I don't use Apple devices as you're restricted in the amount of storage.

Re: Problem with the iPhone ‘Mail’ app
How much storage is it using? For reference, I have 4 distinct mail accounts (all over 10 years old) and my mail app has 1.04GB of documents and data. That compares to the McDonald’s app that I’ve used occasionally for a couple of years that has nearly 900Mb of data

Re: Problem with the iPhone ‘Mail’ app
I found it to be a bit crap so deleted it and just use the gmail app which is fine.
Re: Problem with the iPhone ‘Mail’ app
The iPhone Mail app’s ‘documents and data’ is taking up 840 MB of my 16 GB total memory which is obviously unacceptable. I’ve deleted most of my emails (yes, from all the different folders) from my TalkTalk/Tiscali server but nothing has changed so far.
Any email setup/maintenance experts got any other suggestions?

Sadly if you only have 16Gb total storage on your phone - you need a better phone. Most OS and Email apps combined will fill a 16Gb drive.Mala591 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 5:05 pmThe iPhone Mail app’s ‘documents and data’ is taking up 840 MB of my 16 GB total memory which is obviously unacceptable. Re: Problem with the iPhone ‘Mail’ app
I decided to do a complete reset of the phone which was ‘on it’s last legs’ so to speak. Pre reset I had used 15.4 GB out of 16 GB storage, after reset (WITHOUT any email accounts) I’m down to an amazing use of 7.8 GB out of 16 GB.
I’m concerned that if I start using the iPhone mail app that the same problem will gradually return.
I’ll do some more research before installing any email apps but if anyone is struggling with a 16 or 32 GB phone then try a full reset before buying a new one.
Thanks for all the replies so far.
