Some snow forecast for morning of Wigan game

Post by summitclaret » Tue Mar 07, 2023 7:05 pm

BBC saying snow showers Saturday morning. This after a full day of light snow on Thursday.

I hope the Club are geared up for this, especially gritting and if necessary clearing on BFC property, including any snow in the front rows of stands.

This game has to be played. We don't need any more mid-week games. Win Saturday and at Hull and the pressure on SU and Boro could be too much.

Be prepared to see Vinny in his tee shirt holding a snow shovel.

It’ll be fine. We have an excellent playing surface with under ground heating if required. The grounds person and their staff continue to do an excellent job.

I feel pretty sure the club might keep their eyes on the forecast and will have noticed this.

Not got any issues regarding the pitch, most Premier League/Championship games postponed these days are due to health and safety with regards to the steps in the stadium and streets surrounding the stadium. Though BFC can't control any potential needed gritting around the streets you'd hope they'd be working with the council if it is needed.

One forecast I’ve seen in showing minus 7 Saturday morning. Improving slightly as the day goes on.

Wrap up warm.

50/50 now we have the upgraded amber warning and no immediate thaw forecast. Definitely the roads and paths will be the issue before the pitch.

To be fair it proper heavy snowed in the hours before that Spurs game.

I'd like to think a light dusting two days before can be handled, with maybe the odd flurry on the morning of.

It's been snowing in Padiham for a couple of hours, despite large snowflakes it's not sticking.

I think it will be the stuff overnight that sticks when it's colder and the roads are quiet.

I live about 300 metres above sea level and although it's sticking on the fields, there's not much on my driveway or garden at the minute .

Have no doubt that the pitch etc can be made playable but just wondering whether there will be a call on the game?

Based in things like local buses not running yet and schools closed, people on M62 stuck as examples all indicating that people are struggling to get places?

I know there is a good 24 hrs and some sun due this aft. Hoping for the best but expecting the worse perhaps is the right approach?

It was more whether the impacts of the weather today would allow people to get into work to prepare for the game tomorrow and also if it would sufficiently clear on the path ways and routes in time given the ongoing temps. We may get the sun helping.

Last time we had some bad weather, I saw and heard about a number of fans that had fallen, slipped or been hurt by the paths being icy too which I thought would be a consideration (together with diversions of fans after the game if they are still in place)

Whilst no further snow is planned before the game, it has a 60% chance of snow/sleet at 4pm onwards tomorrow according to the bbc weather app so depending on the conditions before the game, it could worsen again during and after the game when people are trying to leave the ground/area.

My guess is that it would be more likely to be on than off at this stage. As I said hope for the best but plan for the worse.

Club have over 24 hours to clear surrounding areas. Would be poor if there was even any suggestion the game is in doubt.

If it's called off for snow and there's lots of snow then that'll be that.

If it's called off because Wigan have a few players out, don't fancy playing and put pressure on a weak referee (and this happens under blue skies and no snow) it'll be similar to the cowardly incident last season.

I'm glad I make an impression on you guys.

I heartily recommend living life by convictions. I'm happy and contented and not in need of any prayers.

It's difficult to be a lone voice, at times, but the world would be a better place if more of us stood up for what we actually believe to be true. I'll pray for those you go with the flow to find the courage to be themselves.

The bigger problem is where do people park their cars, the council aren’t going to clear all the side streets ,and paths just so Burnley can play.

Poor would be a big understatement. As I said in the op, this game has to go ahead. It's going to be -7 overnight, so all snow on BFC car parks, access routes and gangways must be shifted today. Hire in a mechanical shovel if necessary. Put a call out to fans to bring a shovel today etc.

As for the risk of people slipping, that's a bad indictment on modern Britain. Wear suitable footwear or don't bother going on.

Yep they can’t say the weather came as a shock so hopefully they are well prepared.

Nothing they could do with the Spurs game and the amount of snow that came down prior to kick off and continued after it has been called off.

Might be some difficult journeys with the snow freezing etc but expecting this to go ahead.

Agree that there is time to clear. Sun is out now and I can see the snow starting to melt away slowly. Hopefully that will help.

As for footwear, I don't think you can do much about black ice or ice when it's pitch black and you can see it easily but yeah, not a day for high heels or shoes with no grip on whatsoever.

With the greatest respect they aren’t going to cal an agent off because a few folk can’t park on Leyland Rd.

Also, in any event, the council do have a duty to clear any such places because of the boost that 20,000 people being in or around town has on the local economy.

Hope roads are OK (come via M1 then M62, usually get off at Milnrow to pick my Dad up in Tod). Anyone anticipate any issues? Roads round here in Derbyshire are clear now and it's bright sunshine so I am hoping the rest will melt off this afternoon in that boiling hot 3 degrees. My concern is the expected -5/-6 overnight.
