Live Match at Man City
Without getting involved in the rights or wrongs of the BBC's football coverage issues, if it is not resolved soon is it possible the match may not be broadcast at all?I am unable to attend next Saturday so a live match is my only consolation. If it is shown would it be simply pictures and crowd noise?Personally I thought MOTD was better last night in a shorter format but how would it look for 90 minutes. I'm genuinely interested in other people's views on this but please let's leave the politics well alone for a change
Re: Live Match at Man City
BBC showing WSL today live so would imagine will be sorted for next Saturday ...
And YES leave politicking out of these threads please

Re: Live Match at Man City
No chance the game won't be shown. As for punditry who knows.

The game will be shown and that's the main thing.

Politics and sport do not make good bed mates but sadly the media love to be in the middle of both. Always gonna end in tears. UTC

Worst case scenario you'll see the action live with no commentators or pundits (maybe that would be best case scenario?)

Re: Live Match at Man City
May I just take this opportunity to say how utterly grim MOTD was last night. It was like something I could imagine being on Soviet TV. I believe anyone who says that it was better without commentary and analysis is lying.

Strangely it reminded me of the behind close doors games for Covid. Similarly soulless

As much as I loved him as a player, anything without Ian Wright on is a bonus, likewise Chris Sutton and Martin keowen

I understand commentary for Chelsea Women v ManU W today was provided by BBC's separate world commentary service. That appears to be fallback for next weekend live games.
I'd expect one way or another everything will have been sorted before then.

Most viewers tuning in for MOTD will have done so due to curiosity.

Re: Live Match at Man City
Looking forward to how much people are going to enjoy the coverage of our game next week if we don’t get any analysis or interviews with Vinny and the players.
Re: Live Match at Man City
Incredibly grim. Was nothing you can’t get from watching the two minute highlights packages that are put on YouTube.

Let me know where you sit on the Turf. I’ll come and sit next to you and tell you who is on the ball, and rhyme off lots of pointless statistics. then, when there’s a goal I’ll yell and the top of my voice just to drown at some of the atmosphere. I’ll bring my mate along for a bit of co-commentary too. It will make it much more enjoyable for you.

Re: Live Match at Man City
Blimey, no wonder you don't watch football on TV.
I'm assuming you don't.

Re: Live Match at Man City
Best MOTD episode in years.
Had all the goals in
No "expert" analysis
And finished quicker than usual so I could make the pub for last orders.
What's not to like?
In fact, I liked the experience so much that I'm going to try turning the sound off on TMS.

Re: Live Match at Man City
I was one of the half a million extra that watched MotD last night.
I noted that it was only twenty minutes long. I don't know how much actual football you normally get but I suspect there is an awful lot of time wasted with the lead in music and graphics (always thought they looked like a pair of underpants!), pre-amble and analysis. All it needed yesterday was the teams before each match. I was OK with it although it was strange. It surely cannot be beyond the wit of TV companies to have a facility to add or remove the commentators. I suspect they don't want to do that.
Another interesting point is do Lineker and the like attract viewers? Dispensing with them would save a fair amount of money.

Suspiciously similar to an MP’s tweet.

What are you on about? When I watch a football match or highlights on tv I expect a totally different experience than when I attend the game. Don’t you?CardyTheClaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 3:24 pmLet me know where you sit on the Turf. Re: Live Match at Man City
So you sat at home all night waiting for 20 minutes of MOTD then went to the pub at 10.45 for a pint?

Re: Live Match at Man City
I haven’t brought politics into anything, you’re the one who has ripped off a tweet made by an MP almost verbatim. A tweet that doesn’t even make any sense seeing as MOTD always shows all of the goals, and you didn’t watch it and then go to the pub for last orders.
Re: Live Match at Man City
Next you'll be telling me that I didn't listen to a radio broadcast without the sound. Nanny state!Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 3:48 pmI haven’t brought politics into anything, you’re the one who has ripped off a tweet made by an MP almost verbatim. Re: Live Match at Man City
Imagine the increase in viewing figures last night was due to the spectacle of it, can't imagine it would sustain higher then usual figures week after week in this format - it felt like soviet TV as someone said above! Just missing the shipping forecast type voiceover announcing the teams and scores.

I personally wish they went ‘full rebrand’ and replaced the iconic theme tune with an instrumental of the national anthem.MancunianClaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 3:53 pmImagine the increase in viewing figures last night was due to the spectacle of it, can't imagine it would sustain higher then usual figures week after week in this format - it felt like soviet TV as someone said above! Last week: "What a great commentator John Motson was and his commentary will be sadly missed".
This week "Football is so much better without commentary".

Surely the point is that you can then complain about Shearer/Sutton/Murphy's (other pundits are avaIlable) bias against us. I suppose you could just wait for others to post what they said but it's hard to be so indignant third hand.

Re: Live Match at Man City
To relive the action.
To rewatch the goals and key incidents from different viewpoints.
To hear analysis of our team and the match from pundits.
To watch interviews with our manager and players
To hear the opposition manager’s take on the game.
But yeah, apart from that what’s the point?
Re: Live Match at Man City
Or watch the games you haven't already seen live?

So did you think that the 20 minute show last night was an improvement on the usual product?CardyTheClaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 4:20 pmI have no choice. If there was was an option to watch a game with crowd noise only, then I choose it.

I am sure you are correct. Can't confirm, as I avoided it.
