Summer Transfer Window
So, what activity do we think will occur in the summer. Personally think a few will be loaned out, in case of a return the following year and as long as clubs foot the wages of players, dont think we will have brought in players to cut our losses so quickly on them.
So here goes
SQUAD
GK: Muric, Franchi NEW SIGNING
RB: Roberts, NEW SIGNING
LB: Maatsen (fingers crossed) NEW SIGNING
CB: Dakhil, Beyer, Ekdal NEW SIGNING
CM: Cork, Cullen, Brownhill, NEW SIGNING
ATT MID: Zaroury, Benson, Gudmundson, Churlinov, Vitinho NEW SIGNING
ATT: Tella (fingers crossed), Foster, Obafemi NEW SIGNING Barnes
Then I think the likes of Twine, Egan Riley, Bastien, McNally will be loaned out to championship clubs with the hope of them making an impact and putting in the clause that they play so many games.
Then offload Jay Rod, Taylor, Peacock Farrell
In my opinion I can foresee another busy summer, including the likes of Tella, Beyer, Obafemi, Maatsen signing I can see us signing 10 to 12 players again, probably try to get in on loan 2 or 3 players with that, hopefully one being Harwood Bellis
(Disclaimer: I may have forgot a player or two, we have so many these days)

Re: Summer Transfer Window
Loans will sign PERM
THB maybe another season loan
Get shut of the fringe players and back ups

Churlinov playing on BOTH wings….that’ll fox ‘em!

Re: Summer Transfer Window
I can see BPF, Twine and Taylor all being in the squad and Vitinho being used as RB cover which brings the incoming list right down. It you have assumed us turning 3 loans into players so I think it is realistic.
I think CM is the key area to improve.

We've been linked to Bristol City's Alex Scott in recent days so I guess we're already looking at CMs.

Re: Summer Transfer Window
Centre Mid, Striker, Winger
That's on top of retaining (by hook or crook) Tella, Beyer and Maatsen
Decisions to be made on quite a few squad players too.
McNally looks really good for Coventry and this shows what a run of games from loans can do - so I would be maybe considering the same for Twine and Churlinov for six months to see how they fare? They are both young lads who have had injury set backs and guaranteed game time will tell us a lot about their chances long term with us are my thoughts?
In terms of targets I do hope we sign Gyokeres - impresses me more and more everytime I see him and was excellent against us at the Turf.

Re: Summer Transfer Window
Outgoings
Barnes - can't have Jay and him
BPF - deserves first team footy at Champ level
Churlinov - rumours that Schalke want him back, out of favour here it seems
Weghorst - hopefully done enough at United for them or someone to give us 10m
Taylor - can't see him being used at cb in the Prem and doesn't suit left back
McNally - Cov will want to keep him and he'd be 5th choice still here
Incomings
Starters:
Striker - ideally a 1st team quality player with Foster, Obafemi and Jay competing (Piroe / Gyokeres from the Champ would suit us)
CM - I'm hoping for a dynamic, athletic ball playing midfield alongside Cullen (Sambi Lokonga at Arsenal, played with Cullen at Anderlecht under VK)
Winger/attacker - just some more creative quality, currently there's no real back up to Zaroury? (Verschaeren at Anderlecht, Paintsil/Tresor at Genk)
Loanees - Maatsen and THB loan, Tella and Beyer permanents
Squad:
Left back - after Maatsen, better back up (Ryan Manning at Swansea, out of contract and good profile for our versatile full back role)
Midfield - another midfield option to add goals (Hugo Vetlesen from Bodo Glimt or Hamer from Coventry)
Overall I can see around a 50m spend, but with those outgoings perhaps we can raise at least 15m in sales, should be manageable.

Re: Summer Transfer Window
JayRod still has a year left on his contract doesn’t he ? I doubt he will want to leave unless he gets an offer of a new 2 or 3 year contract from a decent club.
If we can get THB on another season long loan I think we are covered at CB.
If we manage to get Maatsen I would try and sign another left back and try and sell Charlie T. If CT wants to stay that’s not a big issue either as he’s got a lot of PL experience and would be decent back up.
I think we need to prioritise Centre Mid and would bring in at least one quality signing.
Tella would be a great signing and I think we will go for another forward or wide player too. Would not be surprised if a 3 or 4 of existing squad or even more were let out on loan.

Saw a £25 million link to Alex Scott as Bristol City which seems unlikely with the likes of Tottenham sniffing around.
Also saw a link to Joel Piroe at Swansea for £10 million.

Re: Summer Transfer Window
I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see another busy window and perhaps some surprise outgoings.
The last game of this season will be bitter sweet - I could quite happily have another 46 games of watching this team, in this division.

Re: Summer Transfer Window
Ill some up what I want to see happen personally
Maatsen - Loan/Buy
Tella - Buy if price is right
THB - Loan Again
Barnes - renew as a player coach (Purely for dressing room)
Beyer - Option obvs
Tresor - His number output this season in the BPL is outrageous
CDM - Corky's legs wont hold up - Lokonga if available
ST - If possible get ohnuachu from southampton when they go down him and Tresor put out ridiculous numbers together at Genk
Backup GK - Verbuggen - Anderlecht really in money trouble lad will want to come his mentor (GK Coach) is here and hes a ridiculous prospect
Backup RB - Fahd Moufi - Already happening according to Portuguese press
Backup LB - Already in house with Vitihno proved he can do it this season
Sales
Jay Rod
Weghorst
Taylor
BPF - Not fair to keep him anymore let him go be number 1 in the championship
Maatsen - Loan/Buy
Tella - Buy if price is right

Re: Summer Transfer Window
Why do people think BPF needs to go? He has been a superb stand in for Muric this year and has adapted his game to how VK wants to play with excellent distribution. I think he is perfect backup in his current form.

I think Charlie Taylor will be Dyche's first signing of the Summer. His type of defender who he knows and trusts and I think CT will benefit from a move. Think this will happen regardless of whether Everton stay up or not

Agree Steddyman.
Having watched Verbruggen for 90 minutes though, I would love for us to sign him though. Looks a real talent.
I can’t see him necessarily getting in past Muric though (his distribution didn’t look at his levels), despite him looking a very assured keeper. I’d love to see him signed and maybe loaned again to Anderlecht or other team he’d get regular first team football at.

Put all the money into the midfield.
One Spanish ball player type and one African/French athletic type who is also good on the ball.

Re: Maatsen, I hope we sign him as one to develop but I have to be honest and say that defensively I’m not 100% sure at Prem level.
Got done a few times last night where he should’ve blocked crosses/dealt with danger. You will get that with young players so I’m not knocking him at all, just feel we need a more experienced LB as well (if Charlie isn’t the answer).

We have 2 defenders who have proven capable in the Premier League, they have the experience to know what they can get away with and how to deal with PL strikers, so it’s essential that Charlie Taylor stays as well as Roberts. Unless we buy replacements of similar experience.
The other backs are all unproven.

Re: Summer Transfer Window
One thing few have picked up on is both Brentford & Brighton have experience at the centre of defence, something we lack. For all the flair players they have it's no surprise that both Ben Mee & Lewis Dunk are very important to how they play with the ability to organise players around them.
It might be the case that we don't need similar experience, but it's certainly something we should consider.

Re: Summer Transfer Window
I haven't read the whole thread, just picking up at the loss of BPF. He's had a great season, and looked fine when called on. We need solid back up, and he provides this. Unless we are continuing to chase the young lad from Belgium, it would be daft to lose Bailey. We also have bigger priorities that would need the cash, more than a goalkeeper.
Re: Summer Transfer Window
Agree he’s done well but the question is does he want to stay and be a number 2? He’s definitely good enough to be starting in the Champ and I’d imagine after this season he’ll have a few teams interested.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 1:03 pmI haven't read the whole thread, just picking up at the loss of BPF. If he chooses to go, that would be different, but it read as though he wasn't good enough, which clearly he is.
Re: Summer Transfer Window
I’d go as far as to say that each of the three relegations that we have had from the Premier League, would have been avoided, had we invested in the midfield.Hbclaret007 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 11:48 amCompletely agree. Definitely an area we need decent investment in.

We've needed a tall, strong, quick centre midfielder for I reckon the best part of a decade, maybe longer.

yeah he's been a weird one, clearly technically really good but lacks the physicality.
edit: I'll just add it's been pretty impossible for him to break into the team, plus his injury etc wouldn't have helped him at all. You never know what a proper pre-season will do

Re: Summer Transfer Window
Two midfielders are a definite priority-I think its too big a jump for Brownhill & Cork to be competing every week in the PL. Need to get some intelligence on Brighton's recruiting-its unreal. Both Bissouma and Caiecedo have been sensational signings with little outlay
Bissouma went to Spurs for £30m and Brighton rejected £60m plus for Caicedo recently from Arsenal. Both just the type of players we should be looking at, but obviously before they have reached this status, so that we have the option to make a pretty sum. THis seasons transfer activity says to me we can do it now with the resources we have

Re: Summer Transfer Window
I'm not sure about THB, 95+% it's a loan rather than we can buy, watching Ekdal play, I'm not sure THB is any better and I am pretty sure THB & Man City will not want him as a back up player, however if VK thinks 3 CB for rotation and the 4th for back up then it could work. If Taylor remains as back up, we will have 3 BFC players (assuming Bayer is bought) and that might be enough.
Tella & Maatsen becoming ours could be a big ask to get both, and I think Maatsen is more likely to make the move than Tella but of course this all depends on the end of EPL and which league Southampton are playing in. Plus I can see being in demand, with a high price that we might not be able to make in a bidding war.
I think CM and striker are essential for new faces at the moment but can easily be more depending on how many of the loans stay out of the 4 mentioned, other's I can see leaving on loan or permanent.

Re: Summer Transfer Window
I think the squad of 25 excludes players under 21 on jan 1st 2023 but includes loans irrespective of age
Assuming all our loans return to parent clubs and we keep Obafemi as seems to be the deal we have 21 players already and that assumes Barnes leaves
All these 21 players are are contracted beyond 2023 and includes Bobby Thomas who is 22. Egan Riley Franchi Al Dakhil Richardson Dodgson Costelloe Tucker Agyei are under 21 as would Maatsen be if we signed him but not loaned.
We therefore only have room for 4 signings or 2 if we get Tella and Beyer and none if we also take THB and Maatsen on loan, if I have understood the rules correctly

Yes and more importantly I’m sure work is being done behind the scenes to give us a head start for the summer, with recruitment / scouting now fixed on the PL and budgets already being prepared. This gives us an advantage over, let’s say, any of the potential play off teams who won’t know their fate until late May!
