Do you disagree that Foster has been pony since his arrival? Or were you impressed with his one goal return?

Foster’s playing in a new system and after a few games looked well up to speed with it all.
That false 9/deep lying forward position is hard to play effectively… he showed some great glimpses against City and then against Rotherham away then Bristol City was arguably the best player on the pitch until he was subbed.
VK also played against Foster in Belgium, so I think can judge a strikers ability just fine

I don’t think it’s controversial to suggest that Foster to date has been poor, whilst also acknowledging that there are mitigating factors and that he may very well go on to be a very good signing.

Certainly wasn’t poor against Rotherham or Bristol in his last outings.
Was very good infact - shame he got a head injury against Bristol

Re: Chris Wood
Fair enough, different opinions. But if his next 10 performances are of the same quality as his previous 10 then I don’t think he will be anywhere near our starting eleven, because he was sub-par for the Championship. As I said there are mitigating factors and he has time for improvement, but we can only judge his past performances on what actually happened rather than what might.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 4:49 pmThat's what I meant - I think it's harsh to label his performances as 'poor' - especially when he's been getting better with each appearance

He’s not looked anything like a £10,000,000 player or whatever fee it ends up being.

I think you've answered your own question.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 3:27 pmWhy?
Wood had a crap 6 months for us, granted. But he was always a player who scored in fits and starts. A more than solid performer Premier League player.
Did we have Newcastles pants down? Absolutely. But I think Forrest have got a decent deal. Foster, whilst he has age on his side, hasn’t exactly performed at the league below, let alone the Prem. Fingers crossed he picks up!
Re: Chris Wood
Cone on sid, be honest, if Liverpool started next season with Foster up top, you'd be massively underwhelmed, no?GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 3:33 pmWhy?
VK has said that Foster was to use these 6mths since signing to settle in, get used to the country, his team mates etc and then have a proper preseason to get ready for the PL.

Re: Chris Wood
It's a step up so you can't compare the two seasons side by side but the players who came in during the January window will benefit massively from a full pre season with the rest of the group.
Last season was so relentless that there probably wasn't time to work on a lot of things on the training ground.
I really hope we can get as many signings as possible done during pre season, this will give us an even better chance of staying up.

If Liverpool lined up with Cullen and Brownhill in midfield they'd most certainly be underwhelmed... perfectly good for us though!

I could have formed an opinion on him after his first game if I wanted.
I have seen every game he’s played for Burnley and the guy hasn’t been up to it.
One goal for a striker in a team who create hatfuls of chances most games is poor - particularly after having spent a lot of money on him. I can’t see how stepping up a division is going to make him any better.
He’s pony.

Genuinely dont see Wood starting many games. Young Johnson is sensational and one of the quickest forwards in the PL. Then you have Awoniyi (think thats how you spell it), and then you have Dennis too, no doubt a few more strikers competing

Re: Chris Wood
Wood did well for us and scored a good number of goals which helped us to stay in PL.
When he was bad he was really bad and often looked slow and disinterested especially when kept getting caught offside. Overall I am still happy that he played for Burnley. It was however time to go and getting £25m will have helped our club make some of the purchases they eventually made last season.
As for Foster have I missed something? He’s only just joined us hasn’t he? To expect a young man to move from the southern hemisphere having played presumably a totally different type of football to what is offered in the Championship and hitting the ground running is probably unrealistic. VK and recruitment team must’ve seen something in him and I’m happy to back their judgement.

It was interesting to see the morons howling about Mowbray spunking Rovers meagre budget on Brereton-Diaz a few years back on brfcs after he looked a bit lost in his first few games...and I remember a few clowns on here skriking because Ings wasn't up to replacing Charlie Austin on his early showings.

Impressed by Ings pace and sharpness from day one... to the point of defending him on here (or CM possibly) Now I feel there's actually a very close resemblance in style between Ings and Foster.

As a former claret who scored some crucial goals for us I wish Chris Wood all the best at Forest. As regards Foster he looks a decent player. His stats in Belgium suggest he has never been a prolific striker so maybe we won’t be utilising him as an out and out goal scorer. In VK we trust, absolutely.
