The best manager we’ve ever had
To win promotion in your first season is incredible.
To do it after relegation even better.
To do it after relegation. And losing almost every talented player we had and have to replace them with 20% of the money we recouped. Incredible.
To do it in the style we did. With the unbeaten record we have and record we have over the season. Wow.
Kompany. Some man. Some team. Give him the freedom of the town.

Super first season as manager
Best manager in my lifetime was Harry Potts as his team win the First Division and got the team to the last 8 of the European Cup

Let's not get carried away.
Let's also not underestimate his first season.

Re: The best manager we’ve ever had
Kompany has been brilliant but these claims right now are just daft.
Harry Potts won the league when pro football really was alive and kicking as well as changing the way in which football was approached - from player's roles to training ground practices/techniques
He's well on his way to making a claim for one of our greatest, however

Jimmy Mullen got promoted in his first season. His endeavours laid the foundations for all we have achieved.

VK’s appointment was exactly what was needed to rejuvenate the club.
Fair play. If Dyche’s sacking was a mistake by Pace last season, then VK’s appointment in the summer was a complete master stroke.
What a season.

Re: The best manager we’ve ever had
Cretinous comment.
Potts won the league.
Dyche won promotion in his first full season, rebounded as champions with ease, then made Europe.
Kompany has had a wonderful, wonderful start and considering the worries that many, myself definitely included, had last summer it is a tremendous achievement. But he's not even close to our best ever manager yet, if you think that you can only have been watching for 12 months.

Hardly a cretinous comment. It’s all subjective. I feel the style in how we have been promoted outweighs allspt_claret wrote: ↑Fri Apr 07, 2023 11:57 pmCretinous comment.

Previous. Name a better footballing, dominant manger we have had? Tactically and behind the scenes ? In the last 60
Years anyway. Howarth will always be the best if you look at what we did under him.

Unbelievable record.
And will probably go the season unbeaten at the turf.
We’ll probably beat dyches 23 unbeaten.
Probably do the double over them down road.
Probably played the best football this league will ever see.
Did it all after relegation and losing some top players and the dna of our club for the last ten years.

Until we finish 7th in the Premier League he’s behind the last manager. However, incredible start and let’s hope this is just the start of a journey that makes the subject line true.

You are definitely sober with that post & that just isn't right on a night like tonight especially with the bank holiday Easter weekend & promotion.

Re: The best manager we’ve ever had
one thing I will say for certain is it's been the best football I've ever seen us play, gutted there are only a handful of games left
Re: The best manager we’ve ever had
What a fantastic season and Vincent Kompany has earned massive respect for what he has achieved. We have all been particularly impressed by the massive change achieved in how we play.
But you cannot become Burnley's best ever manager with just one seasons performance.
You are competing with :
John Howarth ( won the FaCup in 1914 and the League in 1921)
Cliff Britten who won promotion and got to the FA Cup Final in 1947.
Harry Potts, League winners and FA Cup finalists and last eight of European Cup.
Jimmy Mullen recused us from the fourth division.
Sean Dyche Two promotions , six seasons of premier League football and qualification for Europe.
And there are others.
Let's celebrate them all and not get into a daft argument about who is best. Different times , different challenges.
I do hope Kompany will show he is up there with these past managers and I believe we will have a successful time next season in the Premier League under his guidance.

We got 56 points I think. It was a freak season that. I don’t think any team has finished that high with so little points. Not taking anything away from that thought. I think we get more than 56 points next season. Being dead serious too

Re: The best manager we’ve ever had
VK has got a lot to learn. Going away, needing a win to secure promotion, and actually winning, is not the Burnley way. Now I'll have to put away my tenterhooks for another year.
