There was some fury at his early decisions around me, but I actually thought he got everything spot on after his disaster class in last game.

Inexcusable to not punish Norwood.
Surely one of the refs’ main roles is to protect the players?

It showed his view was obstructed by a United player even though he was close to the incident
Otherwise he would have issued red card

Got a big decision wrong initially but worked with his assistant to ensure he got it right, and that's how it should be.

Re: RATE THE REF - Michael Salisbury v Sheffield United
I’m not sure the game was ref’d properly at all.
Pulled the game up, pointed straight to the spot to award the pen. Then went to his assistant who was in no way a better option to call whether Tella was in the box or not, then awarded a free kick and sent their player off.
Bizarre. Almost as if the decision was taken elsewhere and the correct decision was whispered in the refs ear.
He awarded a pen. Then Changed his mind after consulting the one person on the ground who was in no position to make a call. Poor.

Really struggling to understand some of the marks, though we are all giving genuine opinions without the benefit of replays.
I thought he got the penalty wrong, with the lino correcting him. He then got the Norwood foul wrong (a red). He didn’t have a clue on about 4 other occasions on lesser issues and asked his lino for advice. He was fussy early on, in stark contrast to Bond who let it flow.
So he did OK but I didn’t see it as a good performance.

I thought he was very good throughout and although Norwood should have received a card for the follow through on Maatsen it was virtually impossible for him to see it unfortunately

I know it's all about opinions but I thought Bond was poor and due to him being weak (or letting the game flow) I thought we were lucky not to get a serious injury to one of our players and he gave a penalty for their player legging himself upCrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 12:37 amA - 10

If he didn't see it could it be given retrospectively?

It's exactly as Tony says. The Ref and his assistants are a team. In this instant they worked as a team to get to exactly the right decision. The assistant in some way called over the ref to help get that right decision. It's the right decision that counts, not how they got there.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 12:23 amGot a big decision wrong initially but worked with his assistant to ensure he got it right, and that's how it should be.

Improved as the game went on, fortunately, as the start was poor.

Re: RATE THE REF - Michael Salisbury v Sheffield United
Bizarre sums up your post.. assistant stood right in front of it with a clear view surely was the best person in the ground to advise him. I sit JHU and couldn’t tell, yet the TV camera on the touch line close to that linesman’s view showed it clearly outside.bobinho wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 12:31 amI’m not sure the game was ref’d properly at all.

Re: RATE THE REF - Michael Salisbury v Sheffield United
The Norwood - Maatsen incident is similar to the Barnes - Matic one at Chelsea years ago. It's not deliberate, just a natural follow through. Only Norwood would know if he could have pulled back after hitting the ball.

As others have said, got to the right decision on the red.
Obstructed for the maatsen challenge.
Red killed the game but did what was required there after
