Where's Jay?
Jay has been around the bench and on the pitch at the end of games during his current injury problems, but unless I missed him he was nowhere to be seen after the Hull and Sheff U games. Thought with what those wins meant he would have been on the pitch

He was on the pitch last night disguised as a tramp.

Starting to suspect he might be done, but if that is the case, not a bad way to go having helped us get back up.

Re: Where's Jay?
Hoping he makes a couple of cameos from the bench before end of season.
Re: Where's Jay?
He was doing really well before the World Cup break, looking the part in that number 9/10 hybrid role and was our top scorer at one point. Hasn’t been able to get over that injury sadly.
I’d heard rumours, probably on this board actually, that he’ll be off to the MLS at the end of the season. Be interesting to see what happens with him.

Re: Where's Jay?
At the end of last season it was written on here that he wasn't seeing eye to eye with Dyche and if Dyche hadn't left, he would've. MLS was mentioned. Maybe a move was all but done but then... well, we know what happened.
I'm paraphrasing from what I read a year or so ago on here but basically, wouldn't be surprising if he leaves us and is playing in MLS soon.

Re: Where's Jay?
There is a whole vagueness about his injury, illness, date due back, and in a recent Press Confrerence VK was equally vague. Having not seen him around the squad for some time, I fear we may see very little of him going forwards, and I am not confident he could now perform in the PL next season

Re: Where's Jay?
I was a long way from the centre circle, near the back of the JM Upper, and spotted that figure, but thought it might be Zaroury, a bit small for Jay. But then again everyone looked small from up thereKellyClaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 2:07 pmHe was on the pitch last night wasn't he? Wearing a grey jacket and hat
Re: Where's Jay?
Looks like VK decided he was 'not for next season', so like Churlinov, Dervisoglu, Bastien, Charlie Taylor, Peacock-Farrell etc no match time or minimum match time.
Great shame, as he was playing very well.
I don't believe he has a 'niggling injury' for a moment.
Cameo at the end? Hope so.

Re: Where's Jay?
Perhaps VK has looked at the likes of Jay and Barnes and thought (considering the wage increase when they go back to their premier league levels) he can get more bang for his buck? Particularly when you consider neither will have any re-sale value.
I must admit I will be sad to see Jay and Barnes go. Jay being a Burnley lad always added something extra but his second spell has never really worked out for him with injuries and game time.
I didn't realise until recently that Kompany had his own recruitment company, so you'd think he'd have his finger on the pulse more than most about what level of player he can bring in for what wage.

Sure, but if he knows he won't play, either being paid up or loaned out seems most likely imo

Re: Where's Jay?
Jay wasn’t at boro as well. Was sad to see him not being there and not part of the celebrations.
Re: Where's Jay?
The lack of information regarding player injuries has been this way all season to be fair. I personally don’t mind it, as it hopefully leaves opponents guessing as to when/if certain players are back or not.warksclaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 2:42 pmThere is a whole vagueness about his injury, illness, date due back, and in a recent Press Confrerence VK was equally vague. The one I find a bit odd is the Churlinov situation. He’s clearly fit having played for his country a few weeks ago but seemingly nowhere to be seen in a Burnley shirt?!
Re: Where's Jay?
Been thinking this. And his last performance for us, in the cup, was arguably his best so far.Ampth7 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 6:03 pmThe lack of information regarding player injuries has been this way all season to be fair. Re: Where's Jay?
Dervisoglu seems to have disappeared as well
Re: Where's Jay?
Can only have 5 loans in the matchday squad. THB, Maatsen, Obafemi, Beyer and Tella currently.

Re: Where's Jay?
Re. injure info, the very first time Kompany was asked about an injury way back at the start of his time here he made mention to GDPR, so either because of practices relating to legislation, or a more general desire not to broadcast a player's injury record lest it impact their future possibilities with other clubs (speculating as to the reason on that second one), I think the vagueness is here to stay, probably even beyond Kompany. To be fair I personally have no problem with that. I wouldn't want every detail of my medical state talked about in public.

Re: Where's Jay?
Is he really at the standard required, random ?.....
Re: Where's Jay?
Agree. I suspect something’s happened behind the scenes causing him to be nowhere near the first team. This doesn’t necessarily mean a major incident by the way, but it’s clearly not worked out for him which is a shame because I thought he would be a great signing in this league. Might just be a simple case of he can’t get a sniff due to Anass’ performances?
Re: Where's Jay?
I doubt there's an incident or anything with Dervisoglu. Most reasonable interpretation is that he was brought in as a security signing should we lose both of Jay and Barnes to injury, and remember, at the time of bringing in Dervisoglu we didn't know Tella would be the goalscoring beast he has become this season. Unfortunately for Dervisoglu we've had at least one of both Jay and Barnes fit for almost every game this season.

Re: Where's Jay?
Maybe it's that new song. Barely played and definitely not scored since we started singing it.
Re: Where's Jay?
Sorry Spiral, my bad, I should have clarified that I was talking about Churlinov when I suggested something happening behind the scenes.Spiral wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 6:21 pmI doubt there's an incident or anything with Dervisoglu. Haha, yeah, sorry, we've got about three different conversations involving about five different people about three different players going on all at once!
I'm pretty sure this is how Joyce wrote Finnegans Wake.

Re: Where's Jay?
Strange how Jay has just vanished after his bright start to the season, thankfully Barnes has taken up the mantle in his absence.
Hopefully Jay will get a brief cameo if it is indeed his final season as a Claret.
If both leave then that will leave us rather short in the striker department, however equally it will free up squad places and also trim our wage bill somewhat.

"free up squad places"......Which opens up the door for the likes os Dervisoglu......there's so much potential there but he seriously needs to step up to the plate......Best of luck to him, it's all down to him now.tiger76 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 7:13 pmStrange how Jay has just vanished after his bright start to the season, thankfully Barnes has taken up the mantle in his absence.

Re: Where's Jay?
That may have some merit. It was a fair while ago now when he had his knee reconstructed whilst at Saints, and I believe that an athlete’s playing days are somewhat numbered once such an injury occurs.KirstiTatts wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 6:43 pmI heard that Jay wont be playing again cos his knees are knackered 🥲

Re: Where's Jay?
It’s a shame if jay ends like this. But tbh before this season it was clear his best days were behind him. That said this season he’s played a crucial role early on in the season and probably off the field all season.
I’ll remember his goal at Wigan for a long time from this season. Crucial goal in a big game early on right in front of 5,000 delirious fans.
Some meteorites from him from both stints.
The old Trafford goal obviously stands out. His goal against Chelsea albeit a consolation. That Peterborough goal on that freezing night. The goals against forest.
Not to mention the league cup goals in 2008/09. I mean how he was even here then under coyle baffles me how quick times gone.
Sold him when we needed the money. And was a great move for him and us.
Nice lad. Real shame about the injuries.

Just offering an opinion. Like everyone else. Stimulates debate.
Taylor may be incorrect. He has much defending experience in the prem and we will need that.
The others will be pushed down the pecking order and that usually leads to exit. That's all.
