The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
An understandable emotional response from many on here. I’d be just gutted if he left but he will at some point. He left Anderlecht to join Burnley and that was fuelled by the challenge and personal ambition which is totally understandable.
VK delivered an astonishing season which exceeded all our expectations, one which we’ll never forget. Hopefully everyone focusses on that when the time comes and we don’t end up with this lingering short-sighted bitterness that we’ve had from some quarters post-Dyche.

Anderlecht pretty much sacked him (officially it was a mutual termination). Their fans are fuming with their board for letting him go.Cheats wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 9:31 amAn understandable emotional response from many on here. Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
Maybe it is already sorted and VK has already told Pace he's going nowhere. They don't need to feed the media with denials because they'll twist it to suit their story. He's made his stance with the media and said he won't discuss rumours or answer any of their questions about it so that should be enough. At this stage in his career there's no way VK will put his head on the block at these bigger clubs like Spurs and Chelsea who are in a shambles because of their constant expectations of instant success.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 9:16 amIdeally this needs to be put to bed one way or the other by the end of May. I’d imagine any uncertainty over VK’s future dragging out into the summer months is going to really disrupt our efforts to prepare for what’s already going to be a challenge to stay up/compete. Not least because there may be transfer targets attracted to the idea of working with Kompany and choose to go elsewhere if he’s not at the club.

The risk of ever turning down a job at Chelsea or Spurs is that if next season doesn't go as well as planned then those opportunities might never arise again for him in future.Firthy wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 10:25 amMaybe it is already sorted and VK has already told Pace he's going nowhere. A very good point. He might not. We might win the league. Chances are we won't. Chances are that we will need at least 10 new players to compete. Chances are we are more likely to be fighting to avoid relegation than being like Fulham. That Fulham side had years of investment and a highly regarded academy system. We have had 1 year of VK with modest investment.

If he went to Spurs with that heirachy about him, he would fail and that would enormously damage his reputation.

Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
Were they fuming at the time or was it like on here where everyone is an expert with hindsight?
I remember the reports a year ago which were fairly underwhelming about his success at Anderlecht. I can't remember their fans' take on him.
At the start of this year (and you can check this) when others on this board were criticising the style, lack of goals, AB not ever being allowed on a pitch again, etc... I always said he should be afforded time and be realistic. I didn't expect it to come together as well as it did, though; not even in my wildest dreams.
Dyche was a miracle worker in his 1st (full season) and over much of his tenure. VK may even have been better. I'd be gutted if he left.

Like I've been saying, he won't go to a trigger club, no matter how big they are. Anyhow, for those on here who are convinced he's off to Spurs, you can get 6/1 at some bookmakers. Get your money on it, lads.

Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
The Times still saying this morning that Pochettino, Vincent Kompany and an unidentified third are remaining candidates for Chelsea. Their owners reported to be meeting in Los Angeles today to make a decision on whether to appoint Pochettino.
Anyone think it's possible that Vincent Kompany can be in the running for both Spurs and Chelsea? Oh, and there was also a report that West Ham want Vincent Kompany to replace David Moyes.
I'm not a betting person. What are the odds offered on Vincent Kompany leaving Burnley this summer for either Spurs or Chelsea or any other Premier League club?
In my opinion, Vincent Kompany still has a lot of learning opportunities by managing Burnley in the Premier League. Of course, he's been excellent managing Burnley in the Championship with several loan players, some experienced Premier League players and some younger players with potential, many of them he knew in Belgium. But, he hasn't yet shown that he can take that step up to the Premier League with a squad that he has built, never mind taking over a squad of "super stars" that someone else has put together. Vincent Kompany will stay at Burnley next season. It's also possible he will remain beyond the end of next season, though lots of things can always change in football.

Odds as quoted on Oddschecker on the next Chelsea managerPaul Waine wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 12:27 pmThe Times still saying this morning that Pochettino, Vincent Kompany and an unidentified third are remaining candidates for Chelsea. Pochettino 1/16
Mourinho 12/1
Kompany 16/1
The Times view that other candidates are under some sort of serious consideration for the Chelsea job certainly isn’t reflected in the odds on offer.

We’re going to have this rigmarole every time a PL gets the boot aren’t we.

We had this with the previous incumbent too every time a job came up ...claret2018 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 1:14 pmWe’re going to have this rigmarole every time a PL gets the boot aren’t we.
I ignore it ... if he goes he goes nowt we can do about that.
I reckon VK has more oil in his can than going to a club with a revolving managers office door.
But hey ho what do I know.

I personally think he will stay, but this comment from Pace saying that he is staying means absolutely nothing.

I was expecting America because there were cancelled plans last season because we were relegated and thought we would be looking to raise our profile there.
It’s Europe but don’t want to say more in case it would be inappropriate.

Not that I’m particularly arsed, but he wouldn’t have told your son if it was confidential information.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 2:17 pmI was expecting America because there were cancelled plans last season because we were relegated and thought we would be looking to raise our profile there.

Once he'd checked the odds, like everybody else.

I'll be in Ireland this summer so I'm hoping for there but doubt it.
