The sun seem obsessed with saying Kompany is the favourite for spurs job, they are at it again https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/22022886 ... rnley/amp/

I think VK will have a look at how well some very experienced managers like Espírito Santo, Mourinho and Conte have got on at Spurs and realise that it is not the right move for him at the moment. Potter to Chelsea also underlines how difficult it is transitioning to one of these top six clubs.

Kompany certainly won’t be here as long as Dyche was. I doubt he will go to spurs, but if we start next season well he very well could have moved on by Christmas. If not he will certainly go at the end of next season. That is the reality of football when you are a smaller club. Just like players managers move where the money is, and you can’t blame them for that.

No chance of him leaving next season. Vincent is a principled man, he will not bail out.

I don't think he will go either. He said he loves it at Burnley and it is too soon to go anywhere as he is still learning.

I genuinely believe that Vincent Kompany will not leave until at least he’s done 3 years here. His interviews suggest that he’s on a 3-4 year cycle with this group of players. He has persuaded quite a few young foreign players to commit to 4 year contracts over here and has sold them all his vision and intended pathway I just think the guy is honourable and principled in such a way that he wouldn’t leave us so soon.

I don’t think he will leave unless it’s for Man City. The club needs to continue to back him though. Most of the players that he has brought in have been excellent so I think they will trust him to spend wisely.

He may be principled but more importantly he's not stupid. He's surely got a roadmap to where he wants to be and it seems to be ahead of schedule at the moment. Next season he has the challenge of keeping a relatively small club in The Premier League and I'd guess he's pretty confident he can do it. Maybe a third season challenge to see if he can make further progress here and then, having impressed everybody, he can look at other offers to further promote his ambitions. If we're lucky we might get a fourth season from him. After that he will almost certainly have outgrown us.

A warning though. Patrick Vieira, a similarly well thought of player, leader and seemingly intelligence, only had one good season at Palace.

If Spurs genuinely wanted him, I’m sure he’d go.

However, when was the last time a club with the annual desperation to qualify for the Champions League went for a manager who had only achieved success in the second tier? It’s never happened and it’s unlikely to start this summer.

Agree about the roadmap theme. He's a guy who knows where he wants to get to, he'd be silly not to see what Spuds were offering (in terms of backing/ control/ ambition etc as well as remuneration) and see if that fits with his ambitions v staying at BFC for a Prem season (or two). I dont think he'll leave though.

If Vincent Kompany was genuinely Tottenham’s Number One managerial target I very much doubt if he would still be double figure odds with most bookmakers.

I see and understand your point, but look how appointing all those “world class” managers has worked. Maybe, they just might realise how that hasn’t worked and say let’s have a look at Kompany, he plays the game the right way and his recruitment is first class.

I’d like to think he understands that it wouldn’t be a great move right now…

He's within touching distance of silverware at Burnley, he will surely want to test himself next season at Burnley and build on that success ultimately to have a pub named after him 😀, seriously Spurs is a graveyard for managers, Peps number 2 then number 1 would be my guess.

Spurs will spend a few weeks flirting with Nagelsmann then he will turn them down, then probably try and lure Poch back until he turns them down. Levy will then offer it to Brendan Rodgers and claim he is the stand out cadidate

At this level. Once you star signing players for a top 6 side it’s a different story. Bigger competition, no surprises and after that they still have to fit in and produce.
This has been one of Spurs major failings, signing name players who don’t produce for them, this seasons being Richarlison.

I think Kompany is too intelligent to move on so quickly. As I see it, he's not after the quick route to the top; he's making sure he stays at the top, as and when he gets there. I think he gets what managing is all about, and perfecting that takes time.

If he wants to go to City, and continue Pep's legacy (and I've no doubt he does), then it will only do him good being with us for another year at the very least. And probably longer...

VK owes us no loyalty. The club may well pot him if we are struggling at the turn of the new year and look likely to go down. Also, the same goes for a chuck of our finicky fanbase too, judging by the reaction on here and elsewhere in the early months of this season. That said, I doubt he would go to Tottenham.

If VK can get Burnley doing a "Fulham" or "Brentford" in the PL next year his credentials as a manager will increase far more than if he went to Spurs. He seems a loyal manager and I think the greatest thing going for us is that he will want to see many of our young players improve and establish themselves in the PL.

Will be interesting to see. The interviews where he has mentioned we have succeeded much earlier than expected can be taken 2 ways. I can definitely see him as manager of Spurs unfortunately as he has worked on the biggest stages for most of his career. Let’s say we break the points record, that alone puts him way ahead of Benitez for example who got less points in the Championship having been at the club longer. Alan may not be able to convince him to stay. We shall see.

I think VK sees his job as only just starting at Burnley.
Phase One has been an early success, I suspect he'll want to see how far he and his squads can go.

I suspect Spurs wouldn't want him because they know that if he was successful, he'd be offered the job at Man City sooner or later. They won't want to be used as a stepping stone.

Kompany might have doubts because he knows that success at Spurs is measured by winning things, and Spurs haven't won anything for yonks. He might not want to risk "failure" of keeping them fourth or so. But I wouldn't like to rely on that, because (in all but league titles!) they are a bigger club than us and there must be temptation.

If they genuinely want him, and he wants to go, then he goes with my best wishes as he's rebuilt the team in timescale and with a success rate I didn't think was possible

But as has already been said, Spurs are Champions League contenders, and its a huge risk for them to assume that VK is ready for that step

Yes, I agree, not going anywhere, he's a man of principle and it's been well documented of late that he wants to see how far he can take this club, and plus the fact his mission is to prove he's good enough to manage at a bigger club, certainly hasn't done that yet, will need to stay up next season for a start and moving forward will need to improve on that the season after, and then who knows, but it's also been well documented that it was he's wife that wanted to come back to the Manchester area so we fit the bill at the time, so she will have a big say on he's next move when it comes, but won't be yet.

True, but it was a bit of an exceptional case given his status as a club legend and them being under a transfer embargo at the time. It’s also notable that he didn’t last two seasons.

The thing to say about this The Sun article is that nobody else is picking it up and it’s the second time they’ve run it. That’d be unusual for story with a modicum of truth.

I am not sure why VK would go anywhere at the moment.

He has said that Burnley is a 4-5 year project from memory. He has had the backing of fans and the board and a dressing room that backs his ideas etc.

VK seems to have a level head on him where I don't think it would be too much of a reach to see that he realises how green the grass is where it is.

I think he knows he has time on his hands to be considered for the "bigger jobs" and has confidence he can prove more where he is.

Genuinely don't see anything to worry about and if what ever journalists wrote came true - then we be in Blackpools position now according to some.

There’s a lot in denial on this thread.

I can’t see him still being our manager come August. It will be a hammer blow make no mistake, but we will always have an incredible, record breaking season to look back on and Premier League status.

I trust the ownership to have a succession plan in place to carry on Vinny’s good work.

PS. Really hope I’m wrong and he stays.

I would like to think he’d do at least one season to see how he fares with the team he has built.

We are in a bit of a pickle if he goes but knutsen would be my preference if he was to.

He’d jump from managing the 21st best team to the 5th best team.

5 year contracted to the Clarets. Major compensation will be required if he decides that Spurs is the job for him.
A lot of recent failures at Spurs with previous managers and have all been sacked ... Does VK want that on his CV??.

If I was him I’d stay where I was , less pressure to instantly succeed. They do have a very nice stadium though. Levy not overly keen on spending the money it takes to compete so he’s prob after VK’s champ manager bargain knowledge 😂

He’d jump from managing the 21st best team to the 5th best team.
More money, bigger club, European football next season, career progression.
Constant threat of the sack.

Unless of course he succeeds where many managers with better records than VK have failed.

been done to death, VK is a smart gentleman who gave his word to Pace he would join Burnley before being offered the job in Germany - he still came to Burnley, there was a reason for that and I doubt that has changed, he's a marathon not a sprint guy.
