Seasons in the Top Flight
Ok here is a little quiz for you. No sneaking off to check via Google etc.
2023/20234 will be Burnley’s 60 th season in the top flight since 1888 and we are currently in 21 st overall place.
Can you name:
A) the club immediately above us on 61 seasons
and
B) next two tied on 62 seasons
C) the club with most seasons (120)
The last one should be easy.

Ok I’ll give you that one CT. Boro are A) on 61
If they stay down that means we will be top 20.

It is an interesting list. I'll add another question.
Can you name the 6 teams who have only spent 1 season in the top flight?

I'm confused - didn't the top flight only start in 1992?

A related one. If all the clubs who have played English league football were put in alphabetical order, who would be top of the list?

Definitely Carlisle cos I went to that away match. Remember it being quite a pleasant place.ClaretLoup wrote: ↑Thu Apr 13, 2023 1:39 pmCarlisle Swindon and Northampton would be three of the six.
Re: Seasons in the Top Flight
If you include the dots in A.F.C Bournemouth, does that top Aberdare?

Re: Seasons in the Top Flight
Marks for effort for 4:20 but sjb is correct: Aberdare Athletic:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aberdare_Athletic_F.C.
The source on wikipedia is a book on former league clubs by Dave Twydell. Presumably he had too much time on his hands.

Re: Seasons in the Top Flight
Culmclaret is correct. Sheffield United have spent 61 seasons in the top flight.
The other one is another Championship club who we have beaten this season and are very likely to stay down

Also CoolClaret is right Leicester have spent less seasons than Burnley in the top flight and have only won it ONCE.

Interesting article in the Athletic regarding seasons in the top flight and how precarious it is:

Re: Seasons in the Top Flight
I remember back to our takeover when I think it was Henry Winter who'd said that the type of deal had left us very vulnerable if we got relegated.
He then listed a few clubs very unlikely to go down and two of them were Everton & Leicester.

Re: Seasons in the Top Flight
You are way off there Dazzler. Sunderland have been way more successful than Burnley. 88 seasons in the top flight, behind only the top six plus Newcastle Villa & Everton. They have also been Champions six times.
The other club with 62 seasons is Stoke City.
