Eddie Cochran - 63 years ago today

Post by Claretmisterg » Mon Apr 17, 2023 9:58 am

Eddie Cochran died on April 17th 1960 following a road accident in Chippenham, Wiltshire, at the end of his British tour. Eddie was a pioneer of guitar based rock and roll and paved the way for much of the music to follow. Cherished Memories.

One of the first policemen on the scene was 16 year old cadet David Harman who was on duty at Chippenham Police Station. He was given the responsibility of looking after Cochran's belongings, including his guitar, before they were sent back to the States. Harman left the police force the following year and re-emerged as Dave Dee, accompanied by Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich.

A young fan, Marc Feld, was allowed by Cochrane to carry his guitar to the taxi after his last performance at Hackney Empire. The young fan later had the stage name of Marc Bolan who also died in a road traffic accident.

Not only was he a great rock n roller and guitarist, but he also wrote all his own hit songs....and there are some absolute classics. I love listening to his records.

Weekend was my intro to Eddie Cochran, as a young lad. My mum bought some records off a friend of my sister, who constantly updated his collection to 'the latest.
