I’ve no wish for him to go but I would like some feedback to be taken on board so that he can improve. Just cutting out the word “hook” would be good. Repeating things immediately after just saying saying them. Every game wondering why Josh Cullen didn’t do well at West Ham. Should be easy enough to do
I’ve noticed this too

Also, if I wasn’t actually watching the match, I wouldn’t have a clue where the ball was. He gets proper on edge any time the ball is within 30 yards of our goal, to the point where you’d think their player is one on one with the keeper or something. I did laugh at him calling Maatsen, Baatsen, yesterday.

Any player that has the ball is teasing the player closest to them...

To be fair though, I can deal with Bird, the co commentators are usually the worst.
I stopped listening to these commentaries because of one of the co commentators. Don't know his name but used to waffle on and thought he was hilarious. Seemed to do some of the southern games.

I recently decided, as we are going up, I should become more familar with the Premier League and looked at a match from Chelsea. Commentators? - ninety minutes of moaning about Chelsea and highlighting all mistakes and errors - and I mean all of the ninety minutes!
Give me Phil Bird any day.

He's allreet but when Al-Dakhil is playing he always emphasises every pass whereas other players don't get a mention when they touch the ball. Has anyone else noticed this? I think he hopes to be able to say 'Al-Dakhil backheel' but it never happens.

It's more the complete lack of accuracy - misidentifying players, failing to see what has actually happened, unable to pronounce player names properly.
To be fair to Phil almost every commentator suffers from these things from time to time, some even do them all the time! And even the 'unbiased' generic football commentators often sound like they prefer one side to the other, especially when it is one of the 'big boys' playing.

I like him.

Give him some justice!

"Justice"? He's not on trial and this is not some kind of witch-hunt.
But there is room for improvement. Is it so bad a thing to point that out?

If it Isn't Phil next season, we might end up wishing it was.

As a Claret who can rarely make it on Turf, I think he's quality. Professional, passionate and paints a great picture for those who aren't there.

I find this a bizarre criticism.

He’s passionate and good at getting the most out of his co-commentators - definitely adds value to the broadcast in terms of breathing life and soul into it.

My only criticism is that he is a little bit clueless when it comes to the game and how the teams are set up and how they like to play.. I think he could spend a bit more time really learning about that and I think that would really add to his commentary

Some of the comments on here, like always, are shocking.

I wish someone would tell him that the cheers aren't ironic - more sarcastic.

On balance I would say he is ok, one of those voices you like to hear.
However, there are times when I’m listening to him he appears to be watching a different game to the crowd in the stadium. The sound of their reactions to what’s on the pitch inform me better about what is actually happening in the game. Is there some kind of electronic delay from his microphone to me the listener.
There are times when he creates unnecessary tension, again I listen to the crowd reactions to get a clearer picture.

Phil is ok. Just wish he would have more ex players on for co-commentary. That Andy bloke is clueless and seems to think it’s some kind of comedy show.

Commentary on the last game of the season, sounded like he didn't know whether he would be back

Either way, amazing achievement that he has been commentating every game for us live online since the Blackburn game in 2000 when Andrew Greaves was the co commentator

I love his Claret biased commentary..

Much prefer him to somebody on five live for instance reading from a fact sheet.

I've shared some amazing moments with Phil when living abroad.

Up the Clarets.
