Post by infoman » Mon Apr 24, 2023 5:17 pm

RAIL STRIKES HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED
Please buy your tickets in advance as there will be
NO PAY ON THE DAY and this will NOT be changed
There is no hard copy match day programmes any more,
on line version available free of charge on the web site.
generally availble by the Thursday.
A hard copy can be purchased at a cost of five pounds, just ask for further info.

Coming by road.
Do NOT USE M4/M32 route and don't try to negotiate the roads and streets of Bristol
YOU WILL GET LOST
If you are coming by road use M4/M5 southbound to junction 18(Avonmouth) then follow signs A4 Bristol airport
It looks the long way round but its quicker.
Parking is normally in the streets around the area as long as you are there by 13:00am please don't block drive ways or park on corners.
If you are coming by train there is a local train service to PARSON STREET from Bristol Temple Meads
which leave at 25 minutes and 55 minutes past the hour.
Good train times as most trains from the London direction as well the North arrive at quarter to the hour or quarter past the hour
it takes you two thirds of the way to the ground and walk the rest of the way return
Using PARSON STREET will save you having to negotiate the TICKET GATES at Bristol Temple meads as there are no ticket gates at Parson Street

You will pass Sainsburys on the left with restaurant,Robins pub again on your left hand side
When you approach the ground I suggest you walk past wickes using the pavement
as the concourse area behind the big new stand gets very congested with bodies

Please make sure you get your train ticket showing PARSON STREET
We are trying to promote PARSON STREET for football fans till Ashton gate halt comes on line.
Split train tickets are available to Bristol from the London area using didcot parkway a your split ticket option
Group save tickets are available(one third off) on GWR trains but not cross country trains
If there are at least three of you arriving by train get a taxi
Make sure the taxi driver drops you in the Ashton Road end as it a very long walk round from the other end
or use the brown buses from the bottom of the incline of the station.

Why not stay for he weekend in Bristol?

Casualty and Holby City were filmed in the City don't ask me about either of the programmes cos I think their both rubbish
The young ones was also filmed in the BS7 area of the City(actually its Bishopston)
Finally the block of flats on the left behind the dolman stand side as you are in the away end is "the" block of flats in "fools and horses"
Bring your camera and turn up early if you want to take any photo's
Pubs possibly best one are in the cumberland road basin area novia scotia pump house and the cottage.

BBC Radio station is radio Bristol which has frequencies and 94:9 and DAB and 95:5
and the match commentary will be on BBC radio Bristol 94:9fm

Please circulate to any other football forums and footy fans you may deem fit
If you need any further info, don't be afraid to ask

Seen us win 3-2, 1-0, 4-3, 2-1 (twice] there as well as get three draws. Not a bad ground for us and always a good day out. The 3-2 was a last minute penalty to give us a deserved win, the 1-0 win on the other hand was as deserved as QPR’s on Saturday and the 4-3 was memorable for the Bristol chant of ‘let’s all laugh at Burnley’ when they pulled it back to 3-3 right at the end only to see Chris McCann restore our lead in injury time.

Always found Bedminster good for a drink and a walkable distance to the ground.

Anybody been to Za-Za's to eat?

That's an experience....and cheap-as-chips in city terms.
I know my grub.....give it a go...down in the waterfront area. It's a bit different 😋

Bedminster / Southville good destinations for a beer or two pre match. Gentrification destinations as Bristol South goes. Merchants Arms is a decent pub in Hotwells 15 mins walk from the ground.

Yes and it is awful, world food of fat and carbs, great for kids parties where they can binge on crap but no good otherwise.

That 1-0 was Heath’s first game in charge.

I also saw a 1-0 win there in 1972 when the home fans were disgruntled with manager Alan Dicks. One or two seemed to take the DICKS OUT chant literally.

Culmclaret is correct, Ben Mee & Michael Keane scored with Jonathan Kodjia scoring their goal in stoppage time with his hand.

Not far from the ground is a cricket club. When we last went there, thats where we parked.Good friendly bar too.

It was ideal really, as 10 min walk to the ground and great for getting away after match , road out, lead to the motorway if i am correct

Just can't think of the name of it though, bedminster springs to mind!!1

My memory is not what it used to be. I’m not sure if I always thought Keane had got both, or I just forgot Mee got one of them. I do remember they came in quick succession at our end of the stadium, that one side of the pitch had no stand, and Rod Stewart made an appearance. Or was this some weird dream?

Your memory, other than the scorer of the first goal is spot on, especially Rod Stewart.

Been working out my plan for this the last few days.

Bedminster CC are not in charge of the parking at their club. It looks to be outsourced to an events company and they charge £15 to park there now. https://www.bedminstercc.co.uk/a/functi ... tml?page=2 Ridiculous. They will be charging £35 when the Arctic Monkeys play Ashton Gate at the end of May! Needless to say I'll give that a miss.

The best pubs and I think the designated ones are by the harbour in Hotwells. Nova Scotia,The Cottage..both look nice to be fair. The parking though is difficult with a lot of streets having permit parking around there. Looking like I'll be taking the park and ride option from either Portway (which is just off the M5) or driving in to Long Ashton which isn't far from the aforementioned Bedminster CC. Both go through Hotwells.
These might get busy after the game not only with football fans but shoppers etc heading back from the town centre. It does look the best and cheapest option though.

Can you not use that Parsons St train station to get closer home with car parking.
Like some park up outside London and get the tube in.

If you don’t mind a good walk, my daughter used to live on College Fields in Bristol where the street parking is free at weekends and there are usually loads of spaces. 10 minute walk then into Clifton village which has good pubs and places to eat (nice fish and chop shop there). Then it’s about 25 mins walk to the stadium or catch an Uber.

Parson Street is only any good if your coming by train, similar to using Burnley Manchester Road or Burnley central
