Burnley police tweets
You're allowed to get leathered before game, just not too leathered. Wtf is that all about
Re: Burnley police tweets
Excellent defence for anyone stopped going in under the influence...."the police told me I could get leathered...just not too leathered"

I have to agree with the police reply, if you’ve taken it that way and will ‘use it as defence in court’ you probably want to take a look at yourself tbh

Re: Burnley police tweets
Why do they have to tweet that at all. There OK for telling you the away pub to go too etc. But like when we played Luton and they said be careful it's diversive town??

Damned if they do Damned if they don't. I sometimes wonder why people hate the police just as much as they do. If you aren't a massive bell end you don't really have anything to worry about.

Re: Burnley police tweets
Quite simple really - people can enjoy themselves - but some people in the minority will take it too far and spoil the occasion for others through not being able to hold their Beer.
Re: Burnley police tweets
Not exactly what it says. They’ve advertised where you can have a pint or several pints, but be warned, too many and you won’t be getting in.
The police aren’t against people having fun and having several beers. But if you have too many and they will step in. I really don’t see the issue with what they said. If you find something wrong, that says more about you than it does them.0

I think it's good that they try to interact with fans in a friendly way, it's just sometimes you need to be careful what is put out there, from what is after all an official police account.Les Lawrence wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 8:06 amWhy do they have to tweet that at all. They said "don't get too leathered"...which suggested you can get a bit leathered before entry.Dyched wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 8:25 amNot exactly what it says. They’ve advertised where you can have a pint or several pints, but be warned, too many and you won’t be getting in.

What would your definition of leathered be?.....

Re: Burnley police tweets
This is the police's way of connecting with the average Joe... These are the people who will use the fact that you've had a drink as an excuse to give you and your family a whack.
Steer clear of them, and block them on Twitter if that's what you're into.

For some there is a pattern and I'm not the Beer police.
1 - 5 Having a good time.
6/10 Overly Enthusiastic
7/10 Overly Vociferous - Language a bit colourful.
8/10 Now becoming Obnoxious
9/10 Extremely Painful in the company of all - spoiling the game for others - Some memory of the game
10/10 Danger to themselves and others. Will celebrate but have absolutely no memory of the game and celebrations.

Happy but behaving normally with full control of yourself.
Swaying about and not in full control and you become a possible danger to yourself and others.
Re: Burnley police tweets
I know my definition thank you very much, I was just asking the person who said they had no problem with what was said.
Re: Burnley police tweets
To me the term leathered means somebody who is probably in a worse condition than your second example
To me your first example is someone who is a bit merry.....there are lots of stages of drunkenness between that and the term leathered...

Re: Burnley police tweets
It’s quite clear what they mean. They’ve mentioned where you can get a beer around 2 hours up to kick off. Don’t have too many and acting up or else you’ll spoil the night for yourself.
Re: Burnley police tweets
You are probably correct Nori, however, said drinker would be moving into the grey area which could go either way. Too big a risk.

I didn't start the thread, I responded to it, and to people who have replied to meGodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 8:59 amWhy are you taking such an issue with this?
You've jumped onto a soap box over what appears to be a minor issue.
My only issue is the use of the word leathered, sorry for getting involved with a conversation, I'll get off the soapbox and let you carry on talking only to people who agree with you...enjoy
Re: Burnley police tweets
How does don't get leathered suggest you can get a bit leathered? To be leathered you will have had more than you can handle, being a bit leathered is still being leathered. It's pretty clear to me what they mean, have a drink and enjoy yourself but if you have more than you can handle you wont be getting in...

If you’re having to rely on police advice on how to drink rather than using your own mind/control then you probably shouldn’t be drinking.

Don't know why police forces feel the need to tweet things other than responses to enquiries.

The police were very good on the whole for the home game against that lot. Not always the case but the 'softer' approach seemed to work then.

If in doubt just take a JakubClaret’s advise and slam some painkillers instead - should take the edge off nicely and allow for a relaxed viewing of the game and a chilled drive home

From some of the threads we've read over the last few months, it's other substances rather than alcohol that appears to be the major issue amongst the D***head element of our support ....

Leave him be; with all the police around the publicans will be rigorously checking IDs, so the kid'll not get a beer anywhere anyway.

If you would prefer heavy handed, robotic policing, alcohol being prohibited at any time before, during or after the game and bubble games than a bit of friendly advice on staying safe and out of trouble then you are the odd one out, not those who disagree with your criticism of the police for a tweet...

The old bill could have just pointed out the pubs without their cringeworthy “ have fun but not too much” bullshine . People have little respect for them as they’re too busy snivelling and trying to please . They’re supposed to be feared not mincing social workers .

A lot of people forget that lots of the police on duty at and around the Turf are Clarets and should be treated with respect as all Clarets should be anyway.
