All the sweeter that when you think of stuff like Dunn’s million yards offside goal etc.

In view of the nature and intensity of this game, it was a magnificent display at both ends by Ash

Re: Ashley Barnes
Watching the slo mo on Sky, even Muric seemed to instinctively do the handball signal before quickly realising that may not have been well advised...

They'll moan but they've had more than their share of luck down the years. Dunn's offside, Olsson's dive. F^ck em.

Re: Ashley Barnes
I think I'm right in saying Barnes as a very young plyer was a goalkeeper. But he discovered he couldn't kill from that position. Absolute hero.

Re: Ashley Barnes
first minute of the game Rankin-Costelloe barges into Zaroury and gives him verbals, 1 minute later Ashley bullies Rankin and lets him know he's not having it - that's what this team will miss

Re: Ashley Barnes
Not much he could do with that to be fair /
I’ll miss him when he’s gone. What a signing he’s been. Would have loved him to score again but the home tie was just superb

Re: Ashley Barnes
There’s got to be a certain irony of that ridiculous penalty at Spurs last season that effectively sent us down for one like that tonight to get away with. As well as the karma for fatty dunns offside and other stuff when they kept their run going this is probably my favourite piece of karma.

There’s a pub in Kirkby Lonsdale called the Royal Barn.criminalclaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 10:28 pmWe need some pub in Burnley to be renamed The Royal Barnes in his honour
I’ll ask them to add an ES after their name .

Would have been a fitting end if Ash would have scored the winner. Barnes is a legend and up there with Ray Pointer etc.

Re: Ashley Barnes
I have to say that, although I'm biased, I do not think it was a penalty.
Yes, it hits his arm but it looks like it's top sleeve of his shirt therefore not a penalty.
However, when Benson was dragged down from behind in their box - that WAS a penalty.

Re: Ashley Barnes
I think they both get given in the PL, however that is payback for the Dunn offside goal. In their own back yard Rowls, own back bloody yard !

Re: Ashley Barnes
Surely we should be looking at Ash in a player coach role
He deserves at least the offer and it would suit us and him.

Re: Ashley Barnes
His arm was only in that position because he’d just managed to throw off the Blackburn player fouling him. Justice!
Re: Ashley Barnes
I thought it was a penalty and would expect we'd be appealing for it if it was the other way round.
But then you don't have reviews for one single incident, they can have the pen but we'll have the red card awarded to their player who kicked the ball into the face of Cork when he was on the floor. Likewise the yellow/red for deliberate handball when their player stopped the ball being played tbrough.

Re: Ashley Barnes
I watched Rovers' previous match where Szmodics put the ball into the net with his hand. The commentator made me laugh later by referring to it as a "Hand of Szmod" goal.
