Adam Wharton
Blackburn will do well to keep hold of him.
Thought he was probably the best player on the pitch last night, certainly for the first half. Only 18 and playing in a local derby, his local derby as he’s a Blackburn lad, and he seemed to play without a care in the world. If he makes the right move he could be something very special. I can’t see his talents flourishing in the championship, he probably needs to play in the prem sooner rather than later
Cheeky bid?

This young lad looks fantastic. I reckon another year in the Prem would be good for him.....but I think a future England player here if he continues to develop.
Re: Adam Wharton
Best they can hope for is that one of the big clubs signs him and loan him back for a season or two.

I don't suppose he'd like to wear our strip.
Re: Adam Wharton
He and Al-Dakhil were the best on the pitch. A really impressive performance from Wharton, Rovers fans have been scratching their heads as to why he hasn't featured more often. Passing was Premier League level and he put it about a bit too. Doubt he'll be around there for too long.

he was outstanding, such composure for a young lad in a big game, I know their our rivals but you've got to give them credit for bringing him through. As others have said, they'll be lucky to keep hold of him.

And although the ******* fans think he was the best player on the pitch - he wasn’t. That accolade goes to Ameen Al-Dakhil.

Hopefully if they do flog him the Venkys will use the cash to recoup some of their losses.
Re: Adam Wharton
Wharton was excellent AFTER the first 10/15mins and the best midfielder on the pitch UNTIL Cork and Benson came on. His impact diminished massively when General Jack came on.

Wharton was excellent, and it has to be said that if it were anyone else but Blackburn, the sheer number of talented young players who appear comfortable on the ball that their academy has produced in recent years would be a source of serious admiration. They've done a magnificent job in that department and it's one we can only hope to emulate.

He was very good but might be a little lightweight for the PL. Little uns need extraordinary talent to succeed at that level.

Didn’t take much to win that accolade. Is there a more over rated striker in the league than BB Diaz? Christ, he’s sh**e. Fat Brad Dack used to be their pin up boy, he too was hopeless when he came on.

Re: Adam Wharton
No doubt the lad had a good game against us. He’s only young and looks to have a bit about him.
But bit of perspective here needed.
We haven’t played well since Boro and we have also had a number of injuries and changes to the team. There’s definitely been a drop off in our play.
Blackburn had a massive amount to play for and add that to being home and not wanting us to win the league at their place they were never going to roll over. We destroyed them at the Turf but for them to be pretty much in the top 6 for the whole season they can’t be as bad as they were in that first game.
We are also missing Tella badly. Blackburn tried to play it out from the keeper and too often despite a lack of any quality we made it too easy for them. Tella is by far our best player at putting pressure on defences and we are missing his intensity.
But all this nonsense from their manager that they were the better side and we only had one shot on target. We hit the bar and had the big Zaroury chance in first half - both of which were better chances than any they made. And Muric hardly had a save to make. The general quality of their play, the passing, final ball, decision making etc was far inferior to ours and that’s with us playing at way below our best.
So yep Wharton played ok and maybe one day he develops into a midfielder who is half as good as Cork, Brownhill and Cullen. But right now he’s just a young lad who was less shi-te than the rest of his team mates.

He's a very good midfielder who is already as good as Brownhill and one I'd have in our starting 11 over Brownhill or Cork right now regardless of age.Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 9:45 amNo doubt the lad had a good game against us. He’s only young and looks to have a bit about him.

I'm preying he leaves in the summer because he'll be the best midfielder in the league next season

Re: Adam Wharton
Will be too slight for the Premier League currently I'd think, needs to fill out a bit. Good on the ball and certainly a brilliant prospect but he faded badly against us. He had an excellent period of around 30 minutes at the back end of the first half and was largely anonymous in the second. I saw him earlier in the season against Blackpool and thought he looked a really good player then.
Won't be at Blackburn long, that's for sure.

Re: Adam Wharton
If he was that good why has he only scored 1 goal and 2 assists this season and played only 20 games for a team who are 30 points behind us ?
Yet you think he should be starting in front of the 2 players who have played in the premier league, one of them for England and who if we are taking specifically about this season our manager decided would be captain of one of the best teams ever to play in this division ?
Ok….
Re: Adam Wharton
He's only played 20 games because he's just 18 years old! He's being managed how many 18 year old central midfielders play every game of a championship season. Cork did years ago and he's been brilliant for us but he can't manage to play every week which has been proved in VK selections since the world cup.
Cullen has only 1 goal and 4 assists in 41 games for us, that's for a team scoring freely and crowned champions does that make him a bad player too?
He's having a breakthrough season all the big clubs are scouting him he's tipped to play for England yet you wouldn't have him over Brownhill or Cork? He's worth more than them both put together. Take your claret specs off

Blackburn don’t even think he’s good enough right now to play in their own midfield every week….or even half of their games. Yet you think he’s good enough to get in our team right now.
How many times have you even seen Adam Wharton play ?
Lewis Richardson has played for England - what exactly is your point ? This is teenager level and many lads who play for England at these levels don’t go on to have anywhere near as successful careers as Brownhill (a lot don’t even make it)
Nothing to do with claret specs - are there any statistics at all from this season which show Wharton is a better player than any of our midfielders ?

He wouldn't want to play for Burnley. Although now I think about it, the Claret, Kevin Hird played for Blackburn, and we were on the point of signing a Blackburn fan from Sheff U, then Heath left and Waddle didn't want him.

Yes, that was Mark Patterson.
It's about professionalism. If the deal is right, it's a good move for him. He doesn't need to relocate or anything. We could sign him and loan him back

Decent player but we do need to address the lack of physicality in this side and he wouldn't do that. Newcastle's players look like a different species to our lads.
Sign him for the bants obviously though.

I know this thread is a little bit of banter but what we don't need right now is more sort of project players as key signings.
The lad clearly has quality but not what we need for next season what so ever.. need some big, athletic, physical midfielders that can put it about a bit
Re: Adam Wharton

As for your first comments like another thread your making stuff up again, where did I say he was better than Brownhill and Cork right now?? Or did I say he should be in our team right now??
I said he's as good as Brownhill which he is and that I'd have him in our starting 11 over either of them. You twist words and opinions, read them properly.
How many championship games did Brownhill start at 18?
I'd imagine his gaffer is easing him in it's a tough league.
How many times have you seen him play to go against what my opinion is?
Brownhill never got near him Tuesday he ran the game for 65 minutes at 18 years old!!
Re: Adam Wharton
I'd respect the lad if he didn't want to play for us.
